I’m already 38w4d and completely undecided on a name!! This baby’s gender is a surprise but I do think it’s a girl so I’m starting my search here. My other children in birth order are [name_m]Christian[/name_m] (M), [name_u]Dylan[/name_u] (M), and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (F). Our last name starts with a B so preferably no names starting with a B.
I love my daughter’s name, [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It’s pretty without being several syllables like most pretty names. It’s delicate. It’s fun without being silly or too funky. It’s just as sweet for a baby as it is practical for a woman. I just love it and can’t find another girl name that has the same qualities.
I have gathered a long list. It’s hard to even separate favorites from those mildly interested in. So I’ll just share my list. Please share which you think or suggest others too. Thanks!!!
My favorites from your list are [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. Personally, I wouldn’t use another flower name like [name_f]Violet[/name_f] as a FN.
I agree with you about what makes the name [name_f]Lily[/name_f] so great ([name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is one of my favs), so here are some suggestions that have a similar feel to me:
Thanks for your input!!
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f]- It’s more syllables than I’m used to but I do like it.
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]-love but am I starting a bouquet?
[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is actually [name_f]Lily[/name_f]'s MN.
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] is a version of my name, [name_f]Sarah[/name_f].
My favorites are [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and [name_f]Faith[/name_f]. [name_f]Ella[/name_f] is to is similar to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] for my taste. [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] are so popular. I would avoid those as well. While I like the name [name_f]Violet[/name_f], I would only choose it if you consciously want to go for a floral theme.

My niece is called [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
Two friends of mine named their girls [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (hence why I didn’t choose it when I had the chance but wish now I hadn’t worried about that!)
Anyway both Lilys have siblings one is [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and the other is [name_f]Isabelle[/name_f].
I personally think [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] sound great together!
I think [name_f]Ella[/name_f] has that same fun, light feeling to it as [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. It’s cute and sweet, but also substantial. The vintage feel just adds to its sweetness!
Other names I think have this feel:
[name_u]Ruby[/name_u]
[name_f]Clara[/name_f] - I think this is a cuter version of [name_f]Claire[/name_f]
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] really is beautiful and works well with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] (feminine, soft but not too frilly, will get her through all the stages of her life…).
[name_f]Ella[/name_f] is nice too (but maybe a bit less perennial?) and so is [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] (same vibe as [name_f]Lily[/name_f]), but I really like [name_f]Claire[/name_f] the best !
And I do agree that the suggestion of [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] works really well with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] AND [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] ; I’m also partial to [name_f]Daphne[/name_f], which just sounds beautiful and feminine.
I’ll put + by the ones I think work best with your other kids’ names, and comments on the others.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] +
[name_f]Chloe[/name_f] – not sure why, just don’t think it goes well
[name_f]Sophia[/name_f] +
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]-*a hubby favorite +
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] – too long compared with siblings’ names
[name_f]Eleanna[/name_f] – again, too long, less standard spelling
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] – maybe a bit much to use another flower name
[name_f]Olivia[/name_f] – I’m so-so on this one, it could work
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] +
[name_f]Macy[/name_f] – sounds much less feminine than [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] +
[name_f]Faith[/name_f] – seems a bit much with a brother named [name_m]Christian[/name_m]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] – I wouldn’t choose another name ending in -ly
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] – I don’t think it ages well
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] – too long, prefer [name_f]Julia[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] – nice, just don’t think it has the same “energy” as [name_f]Lily[/name_f]
A lot of your choices are very popular, which is fine. Personally I find [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] to be very overused, although they are pretty names. My top choice would be [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], followed by [name_f]Claire[/name_f] and [name_f]Ella[/name_f].
[name_f]Lily[/name_f] is such a sweet name. [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Chloe[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] are all VERY popular, but I’m assuming that doesn’t bother you that much since they’re all on your list. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t get me wrong, they’re all nice names, but they can be seen as boring or overused at this point. Out of those names, I would use either [name_f]Ava[/name_f] or [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] with [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Chloe[/name_f] sounds TOO close to [name_f]Lily[/name_f] as does [name_f]Ella[/name_f], especially if you use [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] as a nickname. [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is too long and if you use [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Livie[/name_f] as a nickname, that’s [name_m]WAY[/name_m] too close to [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
As for the rest…
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f]/[name_f]Eleanna[/name_f] - trying too hard. Doesn’t go with the simple elegance and sweetness of [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
[name_f]Violet[/name_f] - I love this name, but I agree with others - unless you’re consciously wanting to have flower names, then I’d skip it. Especially if you plan to have more in the future and if it’s a girl, you may feel kind of stuck and pressured to keep with your “girl theme” of flowers.
[name_f]Claire[/name_f] - [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] this name. I definitely think this gives off the same vibe as [name_f]Lily[/name_f], but it sounds totally different. This is my top choice!
[name_f]Macy[/name_f] - Insubstantial. Trendy. Doesn’t hold a candle to [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] - I love this name too, and it does sound nice with [name_f]Lily[/name_f] but it seems you like shorter names in general. You can always nickname her [name_f]Carrie[/name_f] or [name_f]Carly[/name_f], but I think [name_f]Carly[/name_f] and [name_f]Lily[/name_f] are a little too cutesy.
[name_f]Faith[/name_f] - I agree with others; too much with [name_m]Christian[/name_m].
[name_u]Everly[/name_u] - Again, trendy and insubstantial. And I don’t like how it shares the same ending as [name_f]Lily[/name_f].
[name_f]Pippa[/name_f] - It’s a very distinct name and I don’t think it ages well. It’s really a nickname for [name_f]Philippa[/name_f] and I have heard it used as a nickname for [name_u]Piper[/name_u].
[name_f]Juliana[/name_f] - It’s okay. Doesn’t really “go” with [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I prefer [name_f]Juliet[/name_f].
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] - This is a name on my list! I think it gives off a similar vibe as [name_f]Lily[/name_f] and [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. This is my second choice behind [name_f]Claire[/name_f].
Thank you all so much!! You have all made some great suggestions about each name on my list and have helped me eliminate a few. You’ve also given me a few more names to consider. It’s been hard to be constructively critical of a name I might use so this has been helpful. Thank you! I’ll try to narrow it down more and will be back for MN help soon too!
