Baby 4

Well looks like they will be taking my baby girl next week (34 weeks) and she is STILL nameless. My hubby and I are at a complete stalemate and no closer to a name, than we were at 12 weeks, when she found out it was another girl. Getting desperate over here.
Siblings are [name_u]Casey[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]Riley[/name_u], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
Some names I love and their associated “problems” that I could just be imagining
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]: Too similar to [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]: Same as above
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]: As above
[name_f]Annalise[/name_f]: Too ‘matchy’ with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]: As above
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f]: I really do love this one but it’s seen such a spike in popularity, I fear it’s headed well into the top 100, which is not my style
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]: Nothing really wrong with this, I just far prefer [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]. Hubby prefers [name_f]Delia[/name_f], fwiw
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]: DH seems to think she would be relentlessly teased
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]: As above
Some on my ‘ok’ but just don’t quite love it list
[name_f]Margaret[/name_f], [name_f]Millie[/name_f], [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], [name_f]Felicity[/name_f], [name_f]Flora[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f], [name_f]Collette[/name_f], [name_f]Helen[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], [name_f]Rhiannon[/name_f], [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]

Am I overthinking this? [name_f]Do[/name_f] I need to just choose something and stop thinking about everything that’s potentially ‘wrong’ with the names? Her middle name will likely be [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], as long as it flows

I’m sorry you’re having such a hard time! I don’t think you’re overthinking it - there’s a lot of pressure in naming someone! FWIW, I don’t think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] would get teased and there are great nicknames like [name_f]Millie[/name_f] and [name_f]Tillie[/name_f]. It sounds like you really like [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] - I would reconsider this one even though it’s rising in popularity. It’s difficult to predict how high it will climb, but at least you will have picked a name you loved (if you can get DH on board). I also think [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] is fine with [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f]. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though they’re both 3-syllable A names, they sound and look totally different. [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] has good nickname options too.

So [name_f]Annalise[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] would be my top names for you based on your descriptions and concerns.

In case you’re looking for suggestions:

[name_f]Margot[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Leona[/name_f]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f]
[name_f]Thea[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]
[name_f]Magnolia[/name_f]
[name_f]Marguerite[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalind[/name_f]
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]

I’m gonna suggest [name_f]Sahara[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] to ya. Seems to fit with your style.

@jtay07 Thanks for the input! Not big on nicknames, though I know they’re frequently inevitable. Also, I’m definitely open to suggestion, though after months of staring at name lists, it’s unlikely I’ll see something I haven’t already seen and considered.

@18_25 Thanks for the suggestion. Not really feeling [name_f]Sahara[/name_f], sorry! Not sure I would ever get past the association with the desert

I think the only ones too similar to your other kids are [name_u]Eloise[/name_u] and [name_f]Adele[/name_f]. I don’t think [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] will get too popular, but there are a lot of Lilahs. Agree that [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is not so unusual today so probably won’t get teased more than any other name. My favorites from your list are [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Annalise[/name_f], and [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. Also like [name_f]Flora[/name_f] and [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].

Other suggestions:
[name_f]Camille[/name_f]/[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] (could use [name_f]Millie[/name_f] as a nickname)
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]/[name_f]Corinna[/name_f]
[name_f]Celia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
Dahlia
[name_f]Dinah[/name_f]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f]
Louisa
Marcella
Marian
[name_u]Meredith[/name_u]
[name_f]Virginia[/name_f]

I’d go for [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] if that’s the one you really love.

As for suggestions, what about -

[name_f]Quilla[/name_f]
[name_f]Maura[/name_f]
[name_f]Corinne[/name_f]

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is lovely!

[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] are SOOO perfect!
I don’t think that [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] or [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would get teased.

[name_f]Susannah[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
Corinthia [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Natalia[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]
[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]

Thanks everyone! There’s some names that came up I. Suggestions that I really like and were immediately shot down by hubby. Specifically [name_f]Celia[/name_f], [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f], [name_f]Susannah[/name_f]. I actually forgot about [name_f]Lorelei[/name_f], which has been talked about a few times and we both like, so thanks for that one! I’ll have to go back in and add it to my list again before placenta brain makes it go away again.
[name_f]Happy[/name_f] to hear that nobody seems to think [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would be terribly teased. I think I needed a sounding board, more than anything. Hearing other names makes me realize more that I like my short list better than I feel like I do, most days :-). I’m not sure if I’d say [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is necessarily my favorite on that list but I do really like the way [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] flows
Thanks again!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]! I think your reason for tossing it out is not strong enough. It’s a clear winner to me. It starts with its own letter and ends with its own sound. And you really like it! [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t compromise on liking it for another that’s just ok.

I don’t think [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] is too close to [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] would be a great choice. I can’t think why a [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] would be teased. If popularity worries you however I would have thought [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] would be more a concern than [name_f]Delilah[/name_f]? I’m not in US though so maybe [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is not as popular there as it is in other countries.
My favourites on your list with your siblings are [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] (though I prefer the [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] spelling) and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].

[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] was ranked 116 in the US for 2015 (2016 stats won’t be out for a while) and went through a very rapid increase, though it seems to be leveling out a bit now
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is ranked in 500’s in the US, with no signs of heading up the charts, and I think that could be the reason hubby thinks she would be teased…the only real frame of reference here is the book/ movie or waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]…and I hail from Australia originally, so that could add to it.
I actually prefer the [name_f]Anneliese[/name_f] spelling, too but when discussed as a potential for our first daughter, we came to the conclusion it would probably be butchered and I don’t want that, either. That spelling doesn’t make the top 1000 but [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] is in the 400’s. The spelling was something I could make my peace with

I agree with your thoughts. Unless you absolutely love one of the names you have pointed to as too similar, I would choose another name. There are so many beautiful names. I am in [name_m]Oz[/name_m] but I can’t see [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] getting too
popular. You are in a better position to judge. You love the name. Its good I think, but my pick would be [name_f]Matilda[/name_f].
Waltzing [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] would be the worst she would get ‘here’ in my opinion again your not ‘here.’
[name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] make delightful names for sisters. Good luck.

From your options I like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], and [name_f]Delia[/name_f] the best. (Probably shouldn’t go with an “okay” name if you like a bunch of others more.) I don’t think [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] are too similar, but they are a bit similar so if that would bother you I’d go with a different choice. I like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], but there are just so many “Maddies/Matties” around these days that I hesitate to suggest it. I don’t think [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is getting that popular really, so if you like that one you should use it. Or [name_f]Delia[/name_f]. I think both of those are solid choices :).

@silversky109
Oh I never even thought of [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]/ [name_u]Mattie[/name_u] cringe. I’m not into nicknames anyway but [name_f]Tilly[/name_f] doesn’t really actively bother me but either of those would make my skin crawl. As it is, we’re fighting that with people calling our [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] “[name_f]Addie[/name_f]”, which also makes my skin crawl. Haha

I think [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] may be the name for you!
Other suggestions:

[name_f]Lorelei[/name_f]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f]
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]

What did you end up going with?

[name_u]Casey[/name_u], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and Roswyn [name_m]Howell[/name_m]

I wouldn’t use [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Elise[/name_f], and [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] as you said they are too similar. I don’t think there is a problem with [name_f]Annalise[/name_f] and [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f], however [name_f]Adele[/name_f] might be too “matchy” because of the [name_u]ADEL[/name_u] in [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f].
[name_f]Delilah[/name_f] is getting quite popular now, I might reconsider.
[name_f]Delia[/name_f]- I’m not exactly sure how to pronounce this… is it [name_u]Del[/name_u]-eye-a or [name_u]Del[/name_u]-ee-a . Either way is beautiful.
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]- I love this name and the nicknames. I don’t think she would be teased. I think it’s a timeless name
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f]- not my style, it sounds very dated.
I love [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] And [name_f]Margaret[/name_f]! I would love to meet a young [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] or [name_f]Margaret[/name_f].
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] is pretty, but again not really my style.
The others are okay.
All would make a lovely name for your little girl.
All the best!

I don’t think [name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] would get teased, and you’ve probably already considered [name_f]Dorothea[/name_f] or [name_f]Theadora[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Adelaide[/name_f] and [name_f]Theodora[/name_f] are perfect
