Baby and Jontee need names!

Well, it’s 11:00 here and I’ve only just gotten everyone off to sleep, but all I can think about is names!

A little bit of back story is required, I think. DH and I are adopting siblings, a little girl and boy. (They are staying with us at the moment for a three night trial - it’s very nerve-racking, but if all goes well then they could be living with us in as little as a month!) They are three and a half and fifteen months old, respectively, and were named [name]Baby[/name] (by their biological mother) and Jontee (by the social workers). Neither of them have middle names, and so we have been assured by the social workers that we are allowed to change their names, as we would change their surnames after the adoption hearing, anyway.

I really think [name]Baby[/name] deserves to have a proper name, and I have already witnessed her being teased about it, and Jontee does not fit with our naming style at all.

Our biological son’s name is [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name] ([name]Raffy[/name]).

For [name]Baby[/name], we are almost set on [name]Ambrosia[/name]. It honours three people, (my mother [name]Primrose[/name], my closest friend [the mother of [name]Posy[/name], for those of you who followed that thread] [name]Amanda[/name], and DH’s half-sister [name]Amber[/name], who was incredibly helpful throughout my pregnancy), and DH and I both adore the nn [name]Rosie[/name] (he couldn’t be swayed to [name]Rosamund[/name], unfortunately). It really cemented it for us when we mentioned it today, and [name]Baby[/name] thought it “pretty”.

We have asked what she would like to be called - the name she suggested was, oddly enough, not Tinkerbell, but Sofa. Yes, like a couch. I think this is probably her own variant on [name]Sophie[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] …

I am pondering [name]Frances[/name] as a mn, as it was the real name of [name]Baby[/name] Houseman in Dirty Dancing … a loose connection, I know, but I think it would be wrong of us to try and wipe her slate completely clean.

Other girls’ names we like :
[name]Ruth[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name] (for my grandfather [name]Claudius[/name])
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Niamh[/name]
[name]Venetia[/name] (DH and I met in [name]Venice[/name])
[name]Pomona[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name] (DH likes, I am not a huge fan).

Names we would might use, should we have another daughter (which we plan on doing, in a couple of years) :
[name]Dorothea[/name]
[name]Finola[/name]
[name]Undine[/name].

Here was our boys’ list before we settled on [name]Raphael[/name] :
[name]Benjamin[/name] (we adore the nn [name]Benji[/name], but is it too plain alongside [name]Raphael[/name]?)
[name]Claudius[/name] (at my mother’s insistance)
[name]Cyrano[/name]
[name]Daphnis[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name] (my brother’s mn)
[name]Esme[/name] (mn only)
[name]Ezekiel[/name] (very unusual over here)
[name]Jacob[/name] (too popular)
[name]Jasper[/name]
[name]Lorcan[/name] (I can’t get DH on board)
[name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name] (we are already [name]Winnie[/name] and [name]Rupert[/name], so this is out of the question, unfortunately)
[name]Walter[/name] (no good nn options).

Hopefully this gives you an idea of the sort of names that we like … Any suggestions for others, or combinations, would be greatly appreciated!

Twinkle

[name]Ambrosia[/name] has a pretty sound to it, but (and forgive me if you already knew this and it doesn’t bother you) it is the name of a popular Italian dessert made with peaches, pineapples, marshmallows, sour cream, and coconut. It’s very delicious so not necessarily a terrible thing to come to mind! But, to my ears, naming your daughter [name]Ambrosia[/name] is sort of like naming her Pudding . . .

I think for the girl [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] could work nicely.
[name]Ambrosia[/name] - For you and your DH to honour all those people you care about
[name]Frances[/name] - As the link to the name [name]Baby[/name] to honour her original name and biological lineage
[name]Sophia[/name] - To honour her and the name she picked (well, sort of. But I don’t think you can name a kid sofa)

It would have a lot of meaning and [name]Rosie[/name] is a cute nickname that she could use her whole life. And it goes with [name]Raffy[/name]

[name]Just[/name] had a second glance at the boys names and to me
[name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Edmond[/name] sort of stands out but I’m not sure of another middle name from those options.

[name]Ezekiel[/name] can be shortened to [name]Zeke[/name] which fits quite nicely with [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Raffy[/name].

You could follow the same pattern of meaning for the girl option I gave.
[name]Ezekiel[/name] - A name just for him, since he’s too young to choose his own
[name]Edmond[/name] - A name that represents the family he is coming into.
And maybe something linking to Jontee to represent where he is from.
[name]John[/name]
[name]Johnathan[/name]
[name]Jonah[/name]
[name]Jones[/name]
[name]Jonaso[/name]

[name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Edmond[/name] [name]Jonaso[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Edmond[/name] [name]Jones[/name]
I think those two work best. After [name]Edmond[/name] it would have to be a 1 or 3 sylabble name to flow

Yes I’m replying to myself. I really quite like these names.
I just noticed [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sophia[/name] and [name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Edmond[/name] [name]Jonaso[/name] follow the same pattern of sylables too. 4, 2, 3. So they match without being too matchy.

The dessert, I’ve heard of it, but needs also to be said - it is likely named for the original form of ambrosia, or food of the gods (to achieve immortality).

Very popular in the south. My aunt makes it, but I’ve never tried it. I would guess the OP is aware of the ancient meanings and mythological presence of [name]Ambrosia[/name], though…

I kind of like it. [name]Rosie[/name] is a good nickname to have, and [name]Ambrosia[/name] does sound exotic and substantial. I love the name [name]Frances[/name] and that is a cute tie-in to “[name]Baby[/name]” and so I think the B in [name]Ambrosia[/name] also counts her in. If she says her name shall be Sofa, maybe you can use [name]Sophia[/name], spelled [name]Sofia[/name]. And when she wonders why that’s her name, you can tell her she had the wisdom to think of it herself!

I have no more ideas right now, but congratulations! It must be nice to have them with you for a few days and getting them to know you and your home and [name]Raphael[/name], as well as you getting to know them.

If you are looking for names for Jontee, I am trying to think how you can sort of incorporate a tie-in with Jontee without resorting to [name]John[/name] or [name]Jonathan[/name], which I imagine you already dismissed. J. T. Something? I think it would only be fair. [name]How[/name] long has he been called Jontee? Have you asked him if he has any ideas you can work with in the middle?
[name]EDIT[/name]: I think I mixed up which one is older and which one is younger! I’ll still try to think of something for Jontee.

Ok this is totally my last reply.
I just realised that [name]Raphael[/name] and [name]Ezekiel[/name] were both arch angels and [name]Ambrosia[/name] was the name for the food of the Gods in roman mythology. So there’s another link.

What a wonderful and brave thing you’re doing, twinkle!
I like [name]Ambrosia[/name] for all the meaning it has for you and think it goes well with [name]Raphael[/name] - and [name]Rosie[/name] and [name]Raffy[/name] are adorable.
For middles, I don’t think I would use [name]Frances[/name] for the [name]Baby[/name] connection. Have you considered using baby in a different language? Maybe it’s silly. [name]Do[/name] you or DH have any non-English speaking backgrounds? Babetko is slovakian I think, for example. Or maybe add the ending to names that often means ‘little one’ like chen in [name]German[/name]. [name]Claudine[/name] perhaps for your grandfather and ‘little’?
I love the idea of [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Sophia[/name] for [name]Baby[/name]'s request of sofa–you could even use the f spelling - [name]Sofie[/name].

For boys, from your list I like Ezekial the best. [name]Will[/name] you be moving Jontee to the middle or using something that reminds you of Jontee?
Good luck!

I really like several of your names, but I think [name]Ambrosia[/name] is a bit too out there, especially for my taste. All I think is food and drink of the gods when I hear that one! Sorry!

Here are some that would sound lovely with [name]Raphael[/name]:

[name]Abilene[/name] “[name]Abi[/name]”
[name]Adamina[/name] “[name]Addie[/name]”
[name]Amaris[/name] “[name]Amy[/name]”
[name]Delilah[/name] “[name]Lilah[/name]”
[name]Keziah[/name]
[name]Leora[/name]
[name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Rimona[/name]
[name]Sarina[/name] “[name]Sari[/name]”
[name]Tabitha[/name]
[name]Zipporah[/name] “Zippy”

[name]Abraham[/name] “[name]Abe[/name]”
[name]Asher[/name]
[name]Bartholomew[/name] “[name]Bart[/name]”
[name]Ebenezer[/name] “[name]Eb[/name]”
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Herschel[/name]
[name]Lazarus[/name] “Laz, [name]Russ[/name]”
[name]Micah[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name] “Phin”
[name]Reuben[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] “[name]Sam[/name]”
[name]Seth[/name]
[name]Solomon[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name] “[name]Toby[/name]”
[name]Zeke[/name]

For middle names, some of these would be cute: [name]Esther[/name], [name]Jasmine[/name], [name]Lila[/name], [name]Roxanna[/name], [name]Yasmin[/name], [name]Darius[/name], [name]Naveed[/name]

With [name]Raphael[/name] [name]Cyrus[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name], some of my favorite combinations are:

[name]Leora[/name] [name]Jasmine[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Amaris[/name] [name]Roxanna[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Sarina[/name] [name]Esther[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]

[name]Gideon[/name] [name]Naveed[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Herschel[/name] [name]Darius[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Phineas[/name] [name]Naveed[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]
[name]Tobias[/name] [name]Naveed[/name] [name]Peregrine[/name]

Good luck!

Other ideas for honoring [name]Amber[/name], in case you don’t go with [name]Ambrosia[/name]:

[name]Amity[/name]
[name]Ambrose[/name] (part of Jontee’s new name)
[name]Amandine[/name]

[name]Primrose[/name]:

[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Rosaline[/name]
Rosabel
Rosamel

[name]Amanda[/name]:

[name]Amandine[/name] (for [name]Amber[/name], too)
[name]Miranda[/name]

Less popular name for [name]Sophia[/name]:

Sophina
[name]Seraphina[/name]

[name]Ruth[/name]: This has really been growing on me lately.
[name]Claudia[/name]: I think this is so pretty…
[name]Cecily[/name]: Ditto…
[name]Niamh[/name]: I worry about pronunciation issues, which then again may not be an issue where you live.
[name]Venetia[/name] (DH and I met in [name]Venice[/name]): I think of Venetian blinds, so I like some of your other names better. What about [name]Venice[/name] as a middle name?
[name]Pomona[/name]: I think of the college and the city in [name]California[/name].
[name]Clara[/name]: I really love this name!
[name]Margaret[/name] (DH likes, I am not a huge fan): I like it, but like some of your others more.

Names we would might use, should we have another daughter (which we plan on doing, in a couple of years) :
[name]Dorothea[/name]: I really love this, Twinkle!
[name]Finola[/name]: Ditto…
[name]Undine[/name]: I at first thought I was reading the word “undies,” so I’lll vote for [name]Dorothea[/name] and [name]Finola[/name].

Here was our boys’ list before we settled on [name]Raphael[/name] :
[name]Benjamin[/name] (we adore the nn [name]Benji[/name], but is it too plain alongside [name]Raphael[/name]?): I love [name]Benjamin[/name], and because it’s Biblical like [name]Raphael[/name], I personally don’t think it’s too plain. Plainer, yes, but too plain? Not to me.

[name]Claudius[/name] (at my mother’s insistance): I think it would be cool in the middle.

[name]Cyrano[/name]: de Bergerac (It’s all I think of when I hear [name]Cyrano[/name])

[name]Daphnis[/name]: It feels feminine to me, only because I think of [name]Daphne[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name].

[name]Edmond[/name] (my brother’s mn): I think this is very handsome.

[name]Esme[/name] (mn only): I know this is the masculine, but the name is all girl to me for some reason.

[name]Ezekiel[/name] (very unusual over here): I like this, too…

[name]Jacob[/name] (too popular): I agree

[name]Jasper[/name]: I love it!

[name]Lorcan[/name] (I can’t get DH on board): I think I’m with your husband, because I think of Dork and Mork from Mork and [name]Mindy[/name]. (I’ll work on it, though.)

[name]Nathaniel[/name]: I [name]LOVE[/name] this name!

[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name] (we are already [name]Winnie[/name] and [name]Rupert[/name], so this is out of the question, unfortunately): Darn! I love this name! (I love your names, too.)

[name]Walter[/name] (no good nn options): I agree…

I really like:

[name]Edmond[/name] [name]Claudius[/name]
[name]Ezekiel[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]

Other names that remind me of these:

[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Arlo[/name]
[name]Augustin[/name]
[name]Aurelius[/name]
[name]Byron[/name]
[name]Barnaby[/name]
[name]Calvin[/name]
[name]Conrad[/name]
[name]Conall[/name]
[name]Clyde[/name]
[name]Darius[/name] (reminds me of Daphnus)
[name]Dashiell[/name]
[name]Digby[/name]
[name]Dorian[/name]
[name]Franklin[/name]
[name]Frost[/name] (as a middle)
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Hugo[/name]
[name]Julius[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
[name]Lucius[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Magnus[/name]
[name]Orson[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Samson[/name]
[name]Thaddeus[/name]
[name]Victor[/name]
[name]Willard[/name]

I apologize for repeats. I’m not sure if this was suggested, but perhaps [name]John[/name] could be used in the middle for Jontee. ([name]Edit[/name]: Oops! It was suggested, and I really love the idea. What about [name]John[/name] [name]Theodore[/name], which would be [name]John[/name] T?)

Good luck, Twinkle!

I love your son’s name! [name]Raphael[/name] is great:) With [name]Raffy[/name] I love:

[name]Ambrosia[/name] (I think this is perfect) [name]Frances[/name]/[name]Francine[/name]/[name]Francesca[/name] (love the baby connection) [name]Sofia[/name]/[name]Seraphina[/name]/[name]Seraphine[/name] (since she wanted Sofa, lol! that is so cute)

I immediately think archangel when I hear [name]Raphael[/name] and some of the others were [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Michael[/name], [name]Uriel[/name], [name]Haniel[/name], [name]Azrael[/name], Chamuel and Jeremiel. Out of these my favourites are [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Michael[/name] and Jeremiel.

[name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Claudius[/name] [name]Edmond[/name]
[name]Michael[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Jasper[/name]
Jeremiel [name]Walter[/name] [name]Ezekiel[/name]

[name]Hope[/name] this was helpful! Good [name]Luck[/name]!

I [name]LOVE[/name] the idea of using [name]Frances[/name] as a mn and it’s a cute twist on a rather awkward first name (I’m so glad you get to change it!). If she’s like most girls she’ll grow up to love the movie too (although I realise by then it will be seriously vintage!). I also think [name]Ambrosia[/name] fits really well with [name]Raphael[/name] and since you need a third name, I love the idea of using [name]Sofia[/name] to give her some ownership over the name. If I were you, I wouldn’t even hesitate in going for [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sofia[/name].

For Jontee’s name, I like the idea of using another archangel (although admittedly it may get a bit themey). I think [name]Gabriel[/name] and [name]Michael[/name] go beautifully with [name]Raphael[/name].

I also really like your shortlist name [name]Jasper[/name] with [name]Raphael[/name], and I like that it has a connection to Jontee with the J.

I think if I were you, I would use [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] and then a third name. [name]Jasper[/name] to connect to his past, [name]Gabriel[/name] to give him a link to his brother, and then I would pick the third name on meaning.

I started looking for appropriate names, and discovered [name]Theodore[/name] means “gift of God”. Since it’s a name you already love, I just think it’s too perfect! And you don’t have to worry about the “teddy” connotation if it’s in third place. So I would suggest [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]. [name]LOVE[/name] it!

Some other ideas I came across:
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]David[/name] (“beloved”)
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Caradoc[/name] (“amiable, beloved”)
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] Dakarai (dah-kah-RAH-ee, “child brings joy”)
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] Armagan (“gift”)
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Matthew[/name]/[name]Matteo[/name] (“gift of God”)
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Nathan[/name] (“given”)
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Shiloh[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] (“he who is to be sent”)

Of course, if you went for [name]Jonathan[/name] or [name]John[/name], you would also get that meaning in there because it means “gift of Jehovah”. I like the idea of using [name]John[/name] with a T name after to get [name]John[/name] T. So if you go this route I would suggest [name]John[/name]/[name]Jonathan[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name].

Good luck! I’m sure you’ll find something perfect for both of them!

I like [name]Ambrosia[/name], [name]Venetia[/name], and [name]Pomona[/name] on your list of girls.

And with the boys I like [name]Benjamin[/name] and [name]Nathaniel[/name].

Everyone’s suggestion of [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sofia[/name] is quite wonderful.

Wow twinkle- what an amazing thing you and your husband are doing for these 2 little children!

I think [name]Ambrosia[/name] has a v pretty sound but I’m afraid it does rather remind me of the rice pudding! I think [name]Ambrose[/name] is v nice for a boy. Have you considered this?

Other girls’ names we like :
[name]Ruth[/name]- nice, classic but a bit plain next to [name]Raphael[/name]
[name]Claudia[/name] (for my grandfather [name]Claudius[/name])- I love this
[name]Cecily[/name]- love this too, especially as I have one
[name]Niamh[/name]- nice but not that similar to [name]Raphael[/name]
[name]Venetia[/name] (DH and I met in [name]Venice[/name])- don’t like this
[name]Pomona[/name]- I’ve never heard of this before but it’s pretty
[name]Clara[/name]- lovely, pretty and classic
[name]Margaret[/name] (DH likes, I am not a huge fan)- like this, really like [name]Maggie[/name], [name]Pearl[/name] and [name]Meg[/name] as nns

My favourites are [name]Claudia[/name], [name]Cecily[/name] and [name]Clara[/name].

Here was our boys’ list before we settled on [name]Raphael[/name] :
[name]Benjamin[/name] (we adore the nn [name]Benji[/name], but is it too plain alongside [name]Raphael[/name]?)- love [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Claudius[/name] (at my mother’s insistance)- nice but I wouldn’t hve the guts to us it
[name]Cyrano[/name]- de Bergerac
[name]Daphnis[/name]- sounds feminine
[name]Edmond[/name] (my brother’s mn)- lovely and [name]Edward[/name] too
[name]Esme[/name] (mn only)- too feminine for me
[name]Ezekiel[/name] (very unusual over here)- okay, sounds v Biblical but that may be important to you
[name]Jacob[/name] (too popular)- lovely
[name]Jasper[/name]- lovely
[name]Lorcan[/name] (I can’t get DH on board)- don’t like this
[name]Nathaniel[/name]- q like this
[name]Theodore[/name] nn [name]Teddy[/name] (we are already [name]Winnie[/name] and [name]Rupert[/name], so this is out of the question, unfortunately)- love [name]Theodore[/name]- what a shame!
[name]Walter[/name] (no good nn options).- okay
My favourites are [name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Edmond[/name], [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Theodore[/name]

[name]Raphael[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] ‘go’ perfectly imo

[name]How[/name] about: [name]Agnes[/name], [name]Agatha[/name], [name]Adeline[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name], [name]Beate[/name], [name]Calla[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Eugenie[/name], [name]Francesca[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Millicent[/name], [name]Maude[/name], [name]Miranda[/name], [name]Mireille[/name], [name]Natasha[/name], [name]Olympia[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Susannah[/name], [name]Valencia[/name].
Bartholemew, [name]Gabriel[/name], [name]Tobias[/name], [name]Lucien[/name], [name]Lucius[/name], [name]Caspian[/name], [name]Caspar[/name]- I’m not too good with boy’s names!

Good luck

In my earlier post, I voted for [name]Ezekiel[/name] for a brother to [name]Raphael[/name]. But last night I was thinking about it and I think I like [name]Benjamin[/name] better. [name]Raffy[/name] and [name]Benji[/name] are sweet together as brothers and I think the nn [name]Benji[/name] makes [name]Benjamin[/name] a little fresher and spunkier to match [name]Raphael[/name].

Thank you all for your input - you have really helped us narrow down our options.

With regards to [name]Ambrosia[/name], I am aware of the pudding - I suppose it doesn”t sound strange to me as I briefly knew two Ambrosias long before I encountered the dessert. Besides, I rather like the mythological connotation, and so we are pretty settled on [name]Ambrosia[/name] as the first name. We did consider [name]Ambrose[/name] for Jontee, but it doesn”t really seem to suit him ” I think it is rather a lot of name for a boy to carry, too, despite the handsomeness of it, as even I (I”m very fond of slightly effeminate nicknames for boys) think it might be too far to nickname him [name]Rosie[/name]

[name]Lemon[/name], I love that you suggested [name]Adamina[/name] - it”s my sister”s name!

Thank you all for your suggestion of [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sofia[/name], which seems perfect to me. Also thank you Gwensmom for your idea of using [name]Baby[/name] in another language! I racked my brains, and my relatives” brains (I am slightly Irish and lived in [name]France[/name] for part of my childhood. I consulted my brother”s fianc”e, too, as she is Italian) and came up with the following list :

Irish :
Blathnat (BLAW-nit) - little flower
Muadhnait (MOO-nat) - little noble one
Rathnait (RAH-nit) - little graceful one (this is my favourite, I think, although I”m still not sure about it)

Others :
Frauka (FROW-ka) - little lady - I”m not really fond of this one, although I normally love [name]German[/name] names
[name]Nina[/name] - if there were a tilde then this would be little girl in Spanish
[name]Ursula[/name] - little bear - I”m not sure if I can let go of the [name]Little[/name] Mermaid association
[name]Talitha[/name] - little girl in Aramaic
[name]Zita[/name] ([name]ZEE[/name]-ta) - little girl in an Italian dialect (I believe it was Tuscan)

With regards to French, there are a lot of diminutive names - I rather like [name]Claudette[/name], and adore [name]Amandine[/name] (thank you for reminding me of that, [name]Jill[/name]), but DH just won”t get aboard the [name]Amandine[/name] ship. He seems fine with [name]Claudette[/name], though. My only worry is that my grandfather is (fortunately) still with us, but if I honour him I really feel I should honour my other two living grandparents, so it may be easier to avoid it altogether.

So for [name]Baby[/name] (three and a half years), it will either be :

[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sofia[/name]/[name]Sophia[/name] (normally the popularity of [name]Sophia[/name] would irk me, but as it is a mn I don”t think it matters terribly)

Or [name]Ambrosia[/name] (one of the names listed above) [name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sofia[/name].

What do you all think?
I”m afraid I have to go (it”s a little hectic here at the moment), but I am going to have a good look at all of your wonderful suggestions for Jontee when I have a moment!

Thank you all once again - your help is very much appreciated, as are your kind words!

What about [name]Marigold[/name] [name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name]? I just can’t latch onto [name]Ambrosia[/name] as a first name, considering both the pudding and mythological culinary connections - but maybe that is just me. I think [name]Marigold[/name], with the nickname of [name]Mari[/name] or [name]Goldie[/name], would be darling with [name]Raphael[/name] “[name]Raffy[/name]”!

Thank you, [name]Kiki[/name], for your suggestion of using a name for Jontee which has links with our family, too - I think you”re right, and I”ll probably be using [name]Edmond[/name] in there somewhere (my sister has already used our father”s name).

Thank you, [name]Karen[/name], for your idea of using the initials J.T. - I had considered [name]Jonathon[/name], which I do think is handsome but a little ”ordinary” next to [name]Raphael[/name], and so I was really stumped for a way to tie in Jontee. Also, thank you for your congratulations, and it is lovely to have [name]Baby[/name] and Jontee living with us, even for a little while (although I must admit that it”s terribly tiring!).

So, we are now seriously considering [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmond[/name] - J.T., plus a family connection in [name]Edmond[/name] and, loosely, [name]Theodore[/name] ([name]Winnie[/name] and [name]Rupert[/name] again). What do you all think? The flow seems fine to me, but my opinion is not very objective at all.

([name]Karen[/name], to answer your questions, Jontee has been so named since they were taken into care, so he was one month old. He”s only fifteen months, and so I don”t think he will be contributing much to the naming process, but perhaps [name]Baby[/name] will give her opinion. Another reason I”m glad we shall be changing the name - [name]Baby[/name] causes so much confusion!)

I do like both [name]Ezekiel[/name] and [name]Gabriel[/name], but I”m wary of the theme being too matchy. I feel it would be especially noticeable over here, too, as it is extremely unusual to give your child an obviously biblical name - for example, I have only met one [name]Gabriel[/name], one [name]Ezekiel[/name], and never a [name]Noah[/name], [name]Elijah[/name], [name]Isaac[/name] or [name]Isaiah[/name], whereas they are in the US top 50. ([name]Raphael[/name] draws less looks, I think, because it feels slightly bohemian.)

[name]Lemon[/name] - I really love your suggestions of [name]Zipporah[/name] nn Zippy and [name]Esther[/name] - they have been added to my mental name bank for future consideration. I think Zippy is just adorable!

[name]Jill[/name], thank you for all of your lovely comments, especially regarding mine and DH”s names, and I”m glad I might win you round to [name]Lorcan[/name] yet! (I had to Google Mork and [name]Mindy[/name], which I actually might have to try and seek out a copy of now - it sounds hilarious, and I adore [name]Robin[/name] [name]Williams[/name] ) I love your suggestions of [name]Hugo[/name], [name]Samson[/name] and [name]Thaddeus[/name] (such a satisfying sound), and they have been duly stored away in my name bank

Thank you, Charliehotsox, for your compliment on [name]Raffy[/name]”s name!

Thank you for your compliments, Gwensmom and Mummyto3, too - Mummy, I especially loved [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Caspian[/name] and [name]Casper[/name] from your suggestions. In fact, [name]Casper[/name] was on our list right alongside [name]Jasper[/name], but unfortunately I just cannot shake the Friendly Ghost association.

I feel that the decision is now really between :

[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmond[/name]

Or, as [name]Jill[/name] suggested

_____ [name]John[/name] [name]Theodore[/name]

Or, as Lamps suggested

[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Theodore[/name].

I”m still in love with [name]Benjamin[/name] (thank you for your votes of confidence, [name]Jill[/name] and Gwensmom), but I think I am leaning towards [name]Jasper[/name] - it just seems to fit him.

Any thoughts are appreciated, and thank you all once again

Twinkle

I’m so glad you think [name]Jasper[/name] fits him! I love the name, and I think it goes beautifully with [name]Raffy[/name]'s name.

My vote is definitely for:
[name]Ambrosia[/name] [name]Frances[/name] [name]Sofia[/name]
[name]Jasper[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmond[/name]

I know I suggested [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] [name]Theodore[/name], and I still love it, but I think the flow of [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Edmond[/name] is just slightly better and I like the family connection of [name]Edmond[/name]. Although now, thinking about it, I think the flow of [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] [name]Gabriel[/name] is just as nice (and has the JT). So I suppose it depends on whether you want to use the family name or use the name that would connect Jontee to his new brother. I think either are fantastic!

[name]Raphael[/name], [name]Ambrosia[/name] and [name]Jasper[/name] - what a lovely sibset!
