Baby B needs a name

We are expecting in February so that means we’ve gotten more serious about names. DH thinks we still have “time” but I want to “sit” on our top list for a while and give it time to settle. I find a lot of names I’ve loved eventually faded from my heart, but some stuck around. I am having troubles connecting with some boy names, the only exception is my grandfather’s name but we want family permission first and I am not sure about using a name that is already so dear to me. I don’t want an overly popular or trendy name, but a name that has done well over time is fine. DH doesn’t want a word name… unfortunately… but you will see some anyways haha. Here is my update list. If you recognize a style o theme that can help me please point it out! We are not set on only these names, I am very open to more options. Our plan is not to pick THE NAME before the birth. We will pick the name we can agree on most, his top favorite and my top favorite and then decide after the baby is born. I would also love a February themed name but I am not crazy about any of the ones I’ve seen so far. At most I would use Amour as a mn because it means love in french (I am french Canadian), and is part of my maiden name.

GIRLS:
Emerence nn [name]Emmy[/name]
[name]Noella[/name] nn [name]Noah[/name]
[name]Faye[/name]
[name]Millicent[/name] (DH really doesn’t like this one)
[name]Gloria[/name] nn Glow
[name]Zinnia[/name] (a friend said it’s too exotic for us)
[name]Arianne[/name] (DH did like it but is finding it too similar to aryan, and so after years of living the name it is slipping)
[name]Rohan[/name] (preferred spelling, also love that [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name] named his son this, I am a HUGE [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name] fan)

BOYS:
[name]Ambrose[/name] (losing love for it, seems too posh)
[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name] nn [name]Eddie[/name] (this is grandpa’s name, he was called [name]Ed[/name])
[name]Eamon[/name]
[name]Leander[/name] (losing love for it as well, seems bland)
[name]Leif[/name]
[name]River[/name]
[name]Ozias[/name] nn [name]Ozzy[/name]

I love your boys names, especially [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Ambrose[/name], [name]Eamon[/name] and [name]Edmond[/name]. I think [name]Rohan[/name] is great, but on a boy, if your going to use it for a girl, go with the nature spelling, [name]Rowan[/name].

I love [name]Zinnia[/name], [name]Noella[/name], [name]Gloria[/name] and [name]Faye[/name] from your girls list - you seem to like things that are a little offbeat / vintage but still recognizable.

Maybe…

[name]Azalea[/name]
[name]Verity[/name]
[name]Liora[/name]
[name]Stella[/name]
[name]Sylvia[/name]
[name]Calla[/name]

[name]Ian[/name]
[name]Theodore[/name]
[name]Edison[/name]

Is [name]Rohan[/name] the same as [name]Rowan[/name]? I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Rowan[/name]. Not crazy about the [name]Rohan[/name] spelling but it gets the same result so it still gets my vote  We don’t really have teh same style for boys names.

I love [name]Noelle[/name] from your girls list. The rest aren’t my style. My favorite from your boys is [name]Edmond[/name].

Here are some February themed names:
[name]Violet[/name]- Birth month flower
[name]Primrose[/name]- Birth month flower
[name]Amethyst[/name]- birth stone
[name]Amanda[/name]- love
[name]Amy[/name]- beloved
[name]Cara[/name]- love
[name]Freya[/name]- [name]Goddess[/name] of love
[name]Rome[/name]- romantic destination or [name]Romeo[/name]
[name]Chad[/name]- of great love

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

[name]Noella[/name] [name]Glory[/name]
[name]Noella[/name] [name]Fay[/name]

[name]Leopold[/name] [name]River[/name]
[name]Leander[/name] [name]Edmond[/name]

Emerence nn [name]Emmy[/name] - don’t like sorry
[name]Noella[/name] nn [name]Noah[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! [name]Adore[/name], seriously adding this to my list because I like it so much.
[name]Faye[/name] - This one has been on my list for a while, it’s a beautiful simple name, depending on surname might be better as a mn
[name]Millicent[/name] (DH really doesn’t like this one) - I don’t either
[name]Gloria[/name] nn Glow - I prefer [name]Glory[/name]
[name]Zinnia[/name] (a friend said it’s too exotic for us) - not my favorite though it’s pretty, [name]Brielle[/name]?
[name]Arianne[/name] - [name]Arianna[/name]? Loriana
[name]Rohan[/name] - not my favorite for a girl

BOYS:
[name]Ambrose[/name] (losing love for it, seems too posh) - yes, very posh
[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name]! one of my favorites
[name]Edmond[/name] nn [name]Eddie[/name] (this is grandpa’s name, he was called [name]Ed[/name]) - I like it, especially for a middle
[name]Eamon[/name] - I prefer Aiman
[name]Leander[/name] (losing love for it as well, seems bland) - It’s nice, I don’t think it’s bland at all
[name]Leif[/name] - pretty
[name]River[/name] - okay
[name]Ozias[/name] nn [name]Ozzy[/name] - never heard it, different

I like:
[name]Noella[/name] nn [name]Noah[/name]- [name]Noa[/name] is a legit girl’s name so you don’t need the H
[name]Gloria[/name] nn Glow

[name]Edmond[/name] nn [name]Eddie[/name]
[name]Leander[/name]- could still use nn [name]Leo[/name]. I also like [name]Lysander[/name]

I’m a big [name]Marley[/name] fan also. [name]Rohan[/name] =/= [name]Rowan[/name], it’s pronounced “ro-HAHN”

These maybe too out there for you but they could be middle names:
[name]Violet[/name], [name]Primrose[/name], and [name]Iris[/name] are associated with the month. [name]Yolanda[/name] and [name]Iolanthe[/name] mean violet
[name]Venus[/name]- [name]Cupid[/name]'s mom
[name]Aphrodite[/name]- mom of [name]Eros[/name]
[name]Electra[/name]- mother of [name]Iris[/name]
Hedone- daughter of [name]Eros[/name], means bliss/pleasure (FYI- root for hedonism)

[name]Zephyr[/name]- [name]Zephyrus[/name] is the hubby of [name]Iris[/name]
[name]Rome[/name]- [name]Valentine[/name] of [name]Rome[/name] was one of the priest for which the holiday is named
[name]Eros[/name]- Greek name of [name]Cupid[/name] (FYI- root for erotic)

OK I’ll try to cover the responses in one msg… I prefer [name]Rohan[/name] over [name]Rowan[/name], main reason is I don’t like the W sound. I may not be pronouncing it right because my French has me silecing the H a bit. From what I gather on pronunciation sites I am saying it right though lol.

norseberry - of the Feb names you posted none of the them are for me. I do really like [name]Violet[/name] but wouldn’t use it. My grandmother had friends named [name]Violet[/name] and names like it and I think of stale tea and talcom podwer too much lol. Thanks for the suggestions.

flick - [name]Azalea[/name], [name]Theodore[/name] and [name]Edison[/name] were all on the list but just didn’t “fit” for us. Good eye though. I think you got my style bang on, if I could say so myself.

kala_way, I am not crazy about [name]Glory[/name] as a name in itself. We have some mn ideas and most a pretty different than the first names. Once we are happy with our short list you’ll see my combo’s come out. There is some creative stuff there lol. [name]Noella[/name] is a fairly common name among French Canadians, it’s a variation of [name]Noelle[/name] not often heard in the US.

nat108 - [name]Yolanda[/name] was my mom’s friend name and they had a falling out, so [name]Yolande[/name] wouldn’t work. Plus it’s a name you see on a lot of tacky ppl back home lol. I am not crazy about greek god/godess or planet names. As much as I [name]LOVE[/name] planets, DH wouldn’t allow it either. My step sister’s cat is [name]Romeo[/name], so no go on [name]Rome[/name] and I’ll get made fun of my the video game loving fam for [name]Eros[/name] because I think there is a game character by that name too.

Also - on the combo note… IF we did go for [name]Noella[/name] (DH says its too xmasy) then it would be [name]Noella[/name] [name]Marie[/name] which is my grandmother’s mn. I never liked the name but I find it flows nicely together and with our last name.

GIRLS:
Emerence nn [name]Emmy[/name]No
[name]Noella[/name] nn [name]Noah[/name][name]Noelle[/name] is nicer
[name]Faye[/name] Middle only
[name]Millicent[/name] (DH really doesn’t like this one)[name]Love[/name] the nn of [name]Milly[/name] a Yes on this
[name]Gloria[/name] nn Glow Nope
[name]Zinnia[/name] (a friend said it’s too exotic for us)Maybe
[name]Arianne[/name] [name]Love[/name]
[name]Rohan[/name] This is boy, boy, boy and gorgeous so go ahead give it to a son!

BOYS:
[name]Ambrose[/name]Oh go for [name]Rupert[/name] instead he is gorgeous!
[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name] nn [name]Like the name but not the nn
[name]Eamon[/name] [name]Lovely[/name]
[name]Leander[/name] Sorry don’t like
[name]Leif[/name]On the right boy
[name]River[/name]No
[name]Ozias[/name] No what about [name]Eben[/name] instead?

I really wouldn’t use [name]Rohan[/name] on a boy lol I think it would be striking in the right girl and would mix it up with a lovely mn. I also prefer [name]Noella[/name] over [name]Noelle[/name] a million times be since in French [name]Noel[/name], pronounced the same is literally the word for [name]Christmas[/name]. It’d be like naming my baby [name]Christmas[/name] to me lol I guess it’s different when you grow up using it a lot. I really dislike [name]Rupert[/name] as well, and [name]Eben[/name] made me lol because it sounded like a speech impediment. Sorry! I guess we have completely different style haha.

Girls:
Emerence-I like this!
[name]Noella[/name] nn [name]Noah[/name]- Interesting. Again, I like it
[name]Faye[/name]-too out dated for me
[name]Millicent[/name]-too outdated
[name]Gloria[/name]-NMS
[name]Zinnia[/name]-I agree. A bit too out there
[name]Arianne[/name]- Yeah I’m not a fan :frowning:
[name]Rohan[/name]-not bad, it’s ok

Boys:
[name]Ambrose[/name]-I like it. [name]Unique[/name]
[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]- I love [name]Leo[/name] but not a fan of [name]Leopold[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name]-NMS
[name]Eamon[/name]-[name]How[/name] about [name]Easton[/name] instead?
[name]Leander[/name]-Not bad. I kind of like it
[name]Leif[/name]-I prefer [name]Levi[/name]
[name]River[/name]-[name]Love[/name]!
[name]Ozias[/name]-NMS

Favorites: Emerence, [name]Noella[/name], & [name]Ambrose[/name]& [name]River[/name]

I love these, dislike the nicknames I don’t like nicknames mcuh.

GIRLS:
Emerence
[name]Millicent[/name]
[name]Rohan[/name]

BOYS:
[name]Ambrose[/name]
[name]Edmond[/name] - prefer [name]Edmund[/name]
[name]River[/name] - my first daughter/son’s name will be this

The only girl name I love on your list is [name]Faye[/name]- so cute and vintage! For boys, I love [name]Leopold[/name], [name]Edmund[/name], [name]Leander[/name] (one of my absolute favorites!) and [name]Ozias[/name].

Thanks for the feedback bc123! Sabrinafair, I tend to shorten names so I am trying to predict what I would use haha. Leonielee, I think I am stating to loose love for [name]Ozias[/name] but I still like [name]Ozzy[/name]. DH suggested Ozwald (yup, with a Z lol)… but I don’t know if I want MY child being named [name]Ozzy[/name].

And to everyone, the spelling of [name]Edmund[/name] is not an option. My grandfather was 100% French and [name]Edmond[/name] is the proper spelling. I like [name]Eamon[/name] because it is a variant of [name]Edmond[/name] and could be an option twist without actually using the name. I had never even heard of it being spelt [name]Edmund[/name] until I joined this site. I don’t think it’ll be a challenge because so far I still only ever see it being spelt with an O [name]IRL[/name].

Update - DH suggested some crazy names. I don’t understand why he is liking these lol… latest was [name]Anders[/name] pronounced Onders. Dislike [name]Andy[/name] and it’s pretty much a European variation with different meanings depending on which country. He likes [name]Dale[/name] but wants to pronounce is Dah-lee… I gave him a WTF look on that one lol. I said suggesting [name]Dolly[/name] (for a girl) is acceptable because it is literally a name, but [name]Dale[/name] is pronounced [name]DALE[/name] and that’s my mom’s ex’s name so no go lol. Among some of the crazy he did suggest [name]Theo[/name], which I know [name]Theodore[/name] was suggested earlier, and [name]Atticus[/name]. I told him I like the names but cannot see it on our child, so he thinks I hate all his suggestions. Sorry, but [name]McLeod[/name] (not pronounced right), [name]Donahue[/name] (I don’t know how to spell it), Onders, Dah-lee and [name]Doug[/name] are NOT ok with me lol at least [name]Doug[/name] is a normal name. [name]Just[/name] boring if anything. Before we were pregnant he suggested [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Vincent[/name] but [name]Oliver[/name] is too common for me and I know too many [name]Vincent[/name]'s and hate [name]Vin[/name]/[name]Vinny[/name]. I told him to get more serious about looking because I want to sit on our top names for a few months before really picking our top 3 so he is supposed to be looking into it.

So far we only agree on [name]Edmond[/name] and [name]Leo[/name]/[name]Leopold[/name], but again I am just not connecting with [name]Leopold[/name]! Maybe once I know the sex it’ll feel better, or maybe my body knows we aren’t having a boy and so is just not giving me any good vibes haha.

Emerence nn [name]Emmy[/name]- I had this on my list a long time ago i love it!! What do you think of [name]Esperance[/name]? French for hope I know a woman named this.
[name]Noella[/name] nn [name]Noah[/name]-its ok
[name]Faye[/name]- i love this !!
[name]Millicent[/name] (DH really doesn’t like this one)-it has its charm but not big on it
[name]Gloria[/name] nn Glow- i love and have [name]Gloria[/name] [name]Eden[/name] on my list
[name]Zinnia[/name] (a friend said it’s too exotic for us)-more nicknamey
[name]Arianne[/name] (DH did like it but is finding it too similar to aryan, and so after years of living the name it is slipping)- i don’t like this name at all
[name]Rohan[/name] (preferred spelling, also love that [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name] named his son this, I am a HUGE [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name] fan)-i think [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings sorry

BOYS:
[name]Ambrose[/name] (losing love for it, seems too posh)-Its ok
[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] THIS NAME!!!
[name]Edmond[/name] nn [name]Eddie[/name] (this is grandpa’s name, he was called [name]Ed[/name])It has a certain charm to it
[name]Eamon[/name]-i like it
[name]Leander[/name] (losing love for it as well, seems bland)-nope
[name]Leif[/name]- i like it.
[name]River[/name]- over done
[name]Ozias[/name] nn [name]Ozzy[/name]- interesting

Thanks Ilovenames89, [name]Esperance[/name] reminds me of when I used to sing in choir, because I went to a French Catholic school I heard it all the time. I like [name]Hope[/name] as a name and it’s meaning, but I am non-religious now and have different beliefs and it still strings a cathoic chord in my mind. Good suggestion though

IRLS:
Emerence nn [name]Emmy[/name] - don’t like
[name]Noella[/name] nn [name]Noah[/name] - love, but don’t get the noah nick name.
[name]Faye[/name] - NMS
[name]Millicent[/name] (DH really doesn’t like this one) - don’t like.
[name]Gloria[/name] nn Glow - sorry, this is Yucky to me.
[name]Zinnia[/name] (a friend said it’s too exotic for us) -Cute.
[name]Arianne[/name] (DH did like it but is finding it too similar to aryan, and so after years of living the name it is slipping) hmm, now I see aryan. what about [name]Arwen[/name]?
[name]Rohan[/name] (preferred spelling, also love that [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name] named his son this, I am a HUGE [name]Bob[/name] [name]Marley[/name] fan) [name]Love[/name] the name, hate your spelling. [name]Rohan[/name] is a boy. [name]Rowan[/name] is the unisex.

BOYS:
[name]Ambrose[/name] (losing love for it, seems too posh) - I like it, but agree sounds a bit preppy
[name]Leopold[/name] nn [name]Leo[/name] - dislike
[name]Edmond[/name] nn [name]Eddie[/name] (this is grandpa’s name, he was called [name]Ed[/name]) - NMS
[name]Eamon[/name] - NMS
[name]Leander[/name] (losing love for it as well, seems bland) - seems wimpy to me
[name]Leif[/name] - nice
[name]River[/name] - so/so
[name]Ozias[/name] nn [name]Ozzy[/name] - Yuck

I like the names [name]Noella[/name] and [name]Leopold[/name] from your list although i like the nn [name]Noel[/name] for [name]Noella[/name], [name]Noah[/name] is more of a boys name imo.

Hey, if [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Walter[/name], [name]Eliott[/name] etc can be girl names, why can’t the unisex [name]Rohan[/name]? It’s already a legitimate unisex name. It is actually a girl name in [name]Indian[/name]. And again, I dislike the W in the name [name]Rowan[/name]. Sorry :frowning:

As for the nn [name]Noah[/name] - I love it for a girl! You can drop the H if it makes you feel better ([name]Noa[/name], as mentioned earlier is a legit girl name). I like the idea of giving my girl a not so girly nn option. I get that nickname because if you remove the 2nd syllable you get “no-ah”. At least its related unlike a lot of nn’s on here lol. I’m just trying to predict what I will use. When I repeated the name a lot for a few days it’s what came up for me.

A new one for the list; Denji. It’s Japanese and means “bequest from ancestors”. DH is part Japanese, his grandmother moved to the US from Japan. I liked it at first but now wonder if it sounds too similar to “dingy”. Thoughts?
