We are expecting boy #4 in a little over a month and still haven’t settled on a name. Boys #1-3 are [name_m]Samuel[/name_m] [name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] [name_m]Scott[/name_m], and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]. All middle names are to honor close family and so we would like to keep that tradition. Middle names we’ve considered are [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Liam[/name_m] (to honor [name_m]William[/name_m]), and [name_m]Joel[/name_m]. Another (loose) theme that we have is 3 syllable names with the option of a shortened nickname. ([name_u]Sam[/name_u], [name_m]Jonny[/name_m] and [name_m]Zac[/name_m] is what we use). Our last name is one syllable and so I like a longer first with it. My biggest hurdle is that so far we’ve chosen all biblical, hebrew names and I’m reluctant to use another because it just sounds like we’re creating a whole cast of Bible story characters, however my current front runner is [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Ben[/name_m] or [name_m]Benji[/name_m]). Here are the names we’ve considered:
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Liam[/name_m] (my current frontrunner)
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] (husbands frontrunner, but I’m just ok with it, don’t love it and definitely don’t like [name_u]Nick[/name_u] which I don’t think we could completely get away from)
[name_m]Wesley[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] (my initial frontrunner, but using it would eliminate the future possibility of using my #1 girls name, although ever having a girl is looking very unlikely at this point )
And that’s all I got!! Any other ideas??? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] is too obvious a choice for our sibset??
I really think that both [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] are perfect fits - I personally prefer [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] with the existing boys and I’m also not crazy about [name_u]Nick[/name_u]. I do prefer [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] though over [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Liam[/name_m].
Other 3-syllable options that sound nice with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m] and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]:
I like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and feel like it fits with your other names without the set sounding too biblical. If you like [name_m]Ben[/name_m] but are hesitant about [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] what about [name_m]Benedict[/name_m]?
I love the suggestion of [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] and [name_m]Timothy[/name_m].
The first name I thought after read your post was [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m]. I prefer [name_u]Nat[/name_u], but mayb with [name_u]Sam[/name_u] and [name_m]Zac[/name_m] is enough.
I think [name_m]Liam[/name_m] or [name_m]Joel[/name_m] are quite good middle names and similar to [name_u]Douglas[/name_u], [name_m]Scott[/name_m] and [name_m]Cecil[/name_m]. [name_m]Williams[/name_m] is a bit out of place.
I really like [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] (if you don’t like [name_u]Nick[/name_u], you can use Nicko or [name_m]Klaus[/name_m])
I like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] but not [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Liam[/name_m]. [name_m]Benedict[/name_m] is a nice option.
Other names:
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u]
[name_m]Isaac[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ike[/name_m]
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ned[/name_m]
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn Ted
[name_m]Lucas[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Luke[/name_m]
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn [name_u]Alex[/name_u] or [name_u]Lex[/name_u]
[name_m]Gregory[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] nn [name_u]Rory[/name_u]
[name_u]Michael[/name_u] [name_m]Liam[/name_m] nn [name_m]Mike[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] could also go by [name_u]Nico[/name_u] or [name_m]Cole[/name_m]. However, I like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] best with your other boys.
[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] is okay with the double J sounds?? I would love to use [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] but good friends just used it for their little guy last year
I don’t think you’re stuck in a Biblical theme, since [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] is only a form of a Biblical name ([name_m]Zachariah[/name_m]/[name_m]Zechariah[/name_m]), and isn’t too obviously Biblical on the off-set. I, too, like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] best, but not necessarily because I like it best with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]–just because I like it best of all the options. I like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] a little more than [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] [name_m]Liam[/name_m]–it just seems a bit more timeless to me–but both are nice. [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]Joel[/name_m] is nice, too, although I think I’d like [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] [name_m]William[/name_m] a little more. I agree with the others–[name_u]Nick[/name_u] isn’t really the only option anymore; I think [name_u]Nico[/name_u], [name_m]Cole[/name_m], and even [name_m]Claus[/name_m]/[name_m]Klaus[/name_m] are fantastic! [name_m]Wesley[/name_m]'s not my personal favorite, but it does work well with [name_m]Samuel[/name_m], [name_m]Jonathan[/name_m], and [name_m]Zachary[/name_m].
