I like the name [name]Santiago[/name], but I see the Interview With The Vampire character, but I think you could make it work! [name]Rafael[/name] is wonderful too, but how does this reflect where you live now? ^^
Malaika is pretty exotic so I think these names would be fine.
[name]Xavier[/name]

In [name]Peru[/name], or well, in Lima, most people have a spanish/latin american name. Quechua is the language in the mountains and we loved the name ‘Chaska’ for a girl, meaning ‘star’… But no great Quechua names for boys out there… [name]Rafael[/name] is our neighbors name, kind of like a grandfather here to Malaika…
I also like [name]Felix[/name], [name]Nico[/name], [name]Cruz[/name] (but shy away because of Beckhams), [name]Tobias[/name] (though think husband won’t like), and maybe [name]Diego[/name] (though [name]Dora[/name] the [name]Explorer[/name] comes to mind), [name]Mischa[/name], THANKS!
I love the name Tiago. There’s a Brazilian basketball player that plays for the Spurs in the U.S. named Tiago, and I’m obsessed. However, Tiago will not really work with our German-sounding last name. I’m also a big fan of Sebastian.
I agree with Luca not sounding good with your daughter’s name, which is beautiful, by the way.
Other suggestions:
Malaika and Carlos George
Malaika and Andres George
Malaika and Diego George
I like the name [name]Rafael[/name]! I think it goes well since you know a “grandfather type” man where you live so it is honoring someone which I am a huge fan of, plus it’s an awesome name that will be easy to pronounce and has some great nn potential!
I also love [name]Rafael[/name]! I think it is so handsome. I also like [name]Joaquin[/name] and [name]Xavier[/name].
Thanks everyone for your input!
Good to get a sense of what the larger world would think, and to not ask family who always are so opinionated!
Agree - I really like [name]Rafael[/name]… And the man he would be named after. Only issue is my husband also works with a [name]Rafa[/name] that he really dislikes. If I can convince him to forget this little annoyance, maybe he’ll agree…
Also, like [name]Tiago[/name], but agree it doesn’t go as well with surname Duffield. Thought maybe [name]Santiago[/name] Duffield sounded ok, though, but then it is quite spanish - ‘[name]Saint[/name] [name]James[/name]’… And I think we’d have to take the little one to [name]Santiago[/name], Chile for a long holiday to make it legit or something…
Hmm… I do like [name]Andres[/name], but his father is [name]Andrew[/name], so no go…
Thanks for the help, it definitely helps some names stand out as stronger candidates…
[name]Rafael[/name] would be a great option. [name]Hugo[/name] would be awesome too. All of your options would be good though. Another thought that jumped in my mind is [name]Aurelio[/name].
My husband’s family is from [name]Costa[/name] [name]Rica[/name], so I also needed to find boy names that worked in English and Spanish. We named our son [name]Victor[/name] and so I have to throw that out there as an option - so friendly and yet all boy. Other names on our list:
[name]Ruben[/name]
[name]Emanuel[/name] (that’s the Spanish spelling, but [name]Emmanuel[/name] works too)
[name]Alonso[/name]/[name]Alonzo[/name]
[name]Ezra[/name]
[name]Elias[/name]
[name]Gideon[/name] (my husband likes the sound of this in Spanish much much more than I do)
[name]Daniel[/name] (I liked the sound of this in Spanish much much more than my husband did!)
[name]Gustavo[/name]
Those names all made it onto our short(er) list. [name]Hope[/name] you like some!
I like all of the names you suggested. My favorites are [name]Rafael[/name] and [name]Hugo[/name]. I like [name]Rafael[/name] because you can always tell him about your neighbor, and also [name]Raphael[/name] is an angel, which connects to your daughter’s name as well.
I couldn’t agree more! +1!
[name]How[/name] about [name]Leo[/name] -which works in both languages and has a regal meaning?
[name]Daniel[/name] [name]Charles[/name] might be nice and bi-lingual…
Wish I could think of others but good luck!
[name]Xavier[/name] will travel anywhere so I think it makes a great choice.
[name]Xavier[/name] [name]Alessandro[/name] [name]George[/name]
