Baby Boy Flowers

So I realised there is tons of girls names that are flowers etc. [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Pansy[/name_f].

But the only guy one I can think of is [name_f]Iris[/name_f] at the top of my head.

So I was wondering if anyone else had any baby boy flower names?

[name_m]Narcissus[/name_m] (don’t recommend it though)
[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f]
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f]?

These are the ones that seem masculine to me, not really name-y though:

Dogwood
Cosmos
Redbud
[name_m]Heath[/name_m]
[name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m]
[name_m]Jack[/name_m] (in the pulpit)
Larkspur - Kind of sounds like [name_m]Jasper[/name_m] to me.
Astor - It’s kind of unisex in my mind because I think of [name_m]John[/name_m] [name_m]Jacob[/name_m] Astor.
[name_m]Jacob[/name_m] ([name_m]Jacob[/name_m]'s ladder)
Patridge (Pea)
[name_u]Flame[/name_u] (of the forest)
Musas

[name_f]Aster[/name_f] could work I suppose, for it’s similarity to Astor. Perhaps [name_m]Fox[/name_m] in reference to the foxglove? [name_f]Saffron[/name_f] isn’t overly feminine and might work in the middle. [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u] is a Caribbean flower I do believe - it’s kind of cool. [name_m]William[/name_m] for the Sweet William flower. The [name_m]Eric[/name_m] [name_m]John[/name_m] is also a flower. Rover, after the Red Rover? [name_m]Reagan[/name_m] for the Salmon Reagan? [name_m]Watson[/name_m], similar to the Watsonia flower.
Also, there are a few boys names that have floral meanings: [name_u]Florian[/name_u], [name_u]Ren[/name_u], [name_m]Anthony[/name_m]/[name_m]Antonio[/name_m], [name_m]Jarred[/name_m]

What about names that aren’t exactly floral, but rather botanical: [name_m]Thorn[/name_m], [name_u]Rowan[/name_u], [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_f]Cypress[/name_f], [name_u]Elm[/name_u], [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], [name_m]Basil[/name_m], Alder…?

Why would you want to?

[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_m]Basil[/name_m]
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]

Perhaps because she likes flowers…?

Here is a list of names of roses: http://www.britishbabynames.com/blog/2013/06/names-of-roses.html

I think these could (theoretically) work on a boy:

[name_f]Amethyst[/name_f]
[name_f]Clover[/name_f]
[name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Holly[/name_f]
[name_f]Hyacinth[/name_f]
[name_f]Ivy[/name_f]
[name_f]Jonquil[/name_f]
[name_u]Juniper[/name_u]
[name_f]Lotus[/name_f]
[name_f]Olive[/name_f]
[name_u]Sage[/name_u]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]

I think [name_u]Florian[/name_u] is the only good option, really, unless you are willing to go beyond actual flowers and into trees/herbs/etc. There are plenty of ‘plant-related’ names for boys, but I think flowers are mostly reserved for girls in English. As PP mentioned, there are also some flowers that have masculine names, e.g. sweet william, herb robert but I wouldn’t say that makes [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_m]Robert[/name_m] ‘flower names’.

Some exotic ones:

[name_u]Ren[/name_u] (Japanese for “water lily”)
[name_m]Rajiv[/name_m] (Hindi, “lotus flower”)
[name_u]Zahir[/name_u] (Arabic "shining, blossoming)
[name_m]Vartan[/name_m] (Armenian, “giver of roses”)
[name_m]Jacek[/name_m] (Polish, “hyacinth”)
Thales (Greek, “flower”)
Fu (Chinese, “lotus”)
Celwyn (Welsh, “holly”)
Chrysanthos (Greek “golden flower”)
[name_f]Shoshan[/name_f] (Hebrew, unisex, “lily”)
[name_m]Vered[/name_m] (Hebrew, unisex, “rose”)

For English names, [name_f]Hedley[/name_f], [name_u]Hadley[/name_u] and [name_u]Sheldon[/name_u] refer to “fields of heather”.

I kind of like Latin male variations on the girl’s name “[name_f]Flora[/name_f]”, like [name_m]Florin[/name_m] or [name_u]Florian[/name_u].

Nothing wrong with a floral name on a boy at all.

I wouldn’t use [name_f]Iris[/name_f] on a boy, personally, but the following tree/flower names are a bit more masculine;

[name_f]Saffron[/name_f]
[name_u]Aspen[/name_u]
Alder
[name_u]Cedar[/name_u]
[name_u]Linden[/name_u]

Here is my take…

[name_m]Heath[/name_m], Gourd, Calatheas, Koutruk, Didiscus, Privet, Allium, Blackthorn, [name_m]Hawthorn[/name_m], Larkspur

The first thing that comes to my mind is Thistle

Tree- [name_u]Cedar[/name_u], [name_u]Elm[/name_u], Alder, [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_u]Oak[/name_u]
[name_f]Flower[/name_f]- Monkshood, Aconite, [name_f]Thyme[/name_f], Rosin for Rosinweed, [name_u]Sage[/name_u], [name_u]Sorrel[/name_u]
Other naturey names associated with flowers - [name_m]Hawthorne[/name_m], [name_m]Thorn[/name_m]/[name_m]Thorne[/name_m], Nettle, [name_m]Barley[/name_m]
Some more animal themed but still connected to flowers: [name_m]Fox[/name_m] for Foxglove or [name_m]Wolf[/name_m] for Wolfsbane

[name_m]Heath[/name_m] or [name_f]Briar[/name_f] are good bets. If you want to get creative with flower names that aren’t used as girl names, maybe

Trefoil
Sumac
Mint
[name_f]Cypress[/name_f]
[name_u]Yarrow[/name_u]
Trillium

[name_u]Sage[/name_u] and [name_m]Basil[/name_m] came to mind.

I like scientific names of plants, my user name for example is a flower related to irises. (I also like Romneya) my daughter is named [name_f]Lilian[/name_f] and we call her [name_m]Ian[/name_m] so the name u pick could be the floral and a more obvious boy nn. Also keep in mind that most fruit barring trees start as flowers so [name_u]Lindon[/name_u] (lime) and such would work. Rhode, [name_m]Westin[/name_m], [name_m]Hart[/name_m], [name_m]Hamlin[/name_m], [name_f]Valencia[/name_f] are all types of oranges. More traditional would be [name_m]Oliver[/name_m], [name_m]Basil[/name_m], Linnaeus, [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], clover, juniper, [name_u]Hollis[/name_u].

I’ve heard of a boy called Dutch for Dutch [name_f]Iris[/name_f] but never [name_f]Iris[/name_f]. Personally, I see [name_f]Iris[/name_f] as a feminine name.

Gentian
[name_m]Branwell[/name_m]
[name_m]Phyllon[/name_m] (leaf)

Maybe not flowers, but plants/trees -[name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_f]Willow[/name_f], [name_u]Cedar[/name_u],

Aloes
[name_f]Jasmin[/name_f]
Tilleul
