Baby boy, girls list not feeling fresh, sudden change in style, etc

Hello, I hope you are all having a good day!

Apologies for the somewhat convoluted title of the post, I really had no idea what to name it, haha!

You probably haven’t noticed but I have been fairly absent on this website for the past year or so. I only logged back on about two weeks ago. At the end of 2022, I found out that I was pregnant. In [name_u]August[/name_u] 2023, our beautiful healthy baby boy, [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] was born! We’ve been so busy, but its been amazing. [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] is a name both me and my partner love, and [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is a family name that I also adore.

I sat down to look at my girls name list for the first time in months, and I was surprised at how so many of them just don’t seem fresh any more. Names that I like in theory, but when I actually think about them, they don’t really do anything for me. I removed long time loves, such as [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_u]Rose[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f] and [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] off my list. However, there are new names that never appealed to me, that I really like now, such as [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_u]Alba[/name_u], [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], [name_f]Karolina[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Gisele[/name_f] and [name_f]Nella[/name_f]. Has this ever happened to you?

[name_f]Do[/name_f] you think that there is a pattern in the types of names that I’m not feeling anymore, compared with the ones that I have found a recent love for? As in, do you think I’m letting go of a certain style of names and liking a new style? If so, how would you describe this style? What names would you recommend for me, based on the ones that I’m recently liking?

I really missed this lovely community and might be popping on here a bit more often in the future, but I wont be nearly as active as I used to be!

Have a good day!

Absolutely! [name_f]My[/name_f] lists have changed A LOT over the years, especially when I would revisit them after a long time.

I feel like the ones you liked previously where more “trendy” names whereas your newly liked names have a mix of 90s (Olivia, [name_u]Alba[/name_u], [name_f]Jenny[/name_f], Karolina) and more modern or “trendy” names (Sylvie, [name_u]Arden[/name_u], [name_f]Bella[/name_f], [name_f]Gisele[/name_f], Nella)

[name_u]Avery[/name_u]

[name_f]Cheri[/name_f]
[name_f]Estelle[/name_f]

[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps!

[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] back and congratulations on your son - his name is gorgeous!

The names you’ve removed feel like they could be put into two categories for me:

Soft, floral and feminine: [name_f]Cecily[/name_f], [name_f]Bryony[/name_f], [name_u]Rose[/name_u], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f]

Contemporary and zippy: [name_f]Savannah[/name_f], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Delilah[/name_f], [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]

The names you’ve added feel like they could be sorted into these categories:

Simple and popular: [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Bella[/name_f]

International vibes: [name_u]Alba[/name_u], [name_f]Karolina[/name_f], [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], [name_f]Gisele[/name_f]

Outliers: [name_u]Arden[/name_u] (contemporary and zippy), [name_f]Jenny[/name_f] (‘dated-but-cute’ and nickname-y)

I’d say you’ve let go of some of the frillier, more floral names in favour of some simpler names and some with sharper sounds? (perhaps in line with the short, snappy nature of Ezra?) You’ve also let go of some of the very contemporary-on-trend options, in favour of popular-but-classic and more international names.

So, with that in mind, I’m thinking you might like:

[name_f]Clara[/name_f] / [name_f]Klara[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Saskia[/name_f]
[name_f]Lois[/name_f]

[name_u]Esme[/name_u]
[name_u]Mina[/name_u]
[name_f]Stella[/name_f]
[name_f]Adele[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] / [name_f]Julia[/name_f]

[name_f]Iris[/name_f]
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]

Congratulations! [name_u]Ezra[/name_u] [name_m]Felix[/name_m] is such a great name!

I felt the same way after I had my son. I had a name list I used for years and years. Then, once I had an actual baby and was around a lot of other babies and kids, I felt like my list began to change. Thinking of hypothetical names felt a lot different than being surrounded by names every day at play dates and parks and classes.

I’m not seeing an obvious style in the new names you’re loving. Maybe a tad shorter names? [name_f]Lily[/name_f], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], and [name_f]Bella[/name_f] all strike me as being very popular. Like maybe you’re seeing and hearing those names out and about now and that’s drawing you to them possibly.

I also took a long break on here after having my son. babies are a lot of work! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] to see you back and hope you’re able to pop in more.

Thank you so much!

Yes, I see what you mean! A lot of the names I’m not feeling anymore are softer and more trendy, and replaced with more classic and international names.

Wow, thanks for these. Clara, [name_m]Esme[/name_m] and Lucy are actually already on my list so you definitely nailed the style.

Thank you!

Yes I 100% agree. I think I began to see names in a different way, rather than just liking them on paper because of their sound and how they looked - instead I imagined them on my future daughter. Good to know this has happened to others before!

Thank you!

Thank you for the suggestions - [name_m]Harper[/name_m], Violet, [name_m]Willow[/name_m] and Lucy are already actually on my girls list so you definitely nailed the style!
