Baby boy name

My husband and I are trying to agree on the name of our baby boy. He loves [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u].

I’m not opposed to the name but am not in love with it. I fear the name [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] is a little feminine.

Thoughts on the name [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] for a boy?

I have no names I love for a boy and know this name means a lot to my husband as he’s loved it since a little boy.

Would love some feedback on your thoughts on the name.

Thank you.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad, news, but looks like your impression is pretty accurate.

According to the SSA’s data for popular baby names, [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] for a boy ranks #371 and has been falling for the past decade.

For girls, [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] ranks popularity #59, down from #10 in 2000.

I always thought of [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] more as a boy name than girl name, but it would appear that the rest of the country thinks otherwise. I suppose the popularity of [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] Swift only boosts the use for girls.

Now, the similar [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] is at #63 for boys, down from #10 in 2000. For girls, their popularity numbers dropped below the Top 1000 way back in 2008.

I think it would be fine to use [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy if it’s your favorite. Especially if it’s a family name or something. If it bothers you that [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] is pretty likely to be taken for a girl at first, [name_u]Tyler[/name_u] is a good option.

Have you thought about suggesting other ER/ OR names to him…

[name_u]Tyler[/name_u] like saracita00 has said

Only other suggestion i can think of that isn’t too indifferent to [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] is [name_f]Baylor[/name_f] - [name_u]Bay[/name_u] [nature nickname]

I would have to agree it’s primarily used on girls these days. Depends on whether that bothers you and your husband. I know lots of people who like [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] because it lends itself to the nickname ‘[name_u]Tay[/name_u]/[name_u]Taye[/name_u]’ which is a lovely sound.

Would you consider just [name_u]Taye[/name_u] for your son? I think that would work a lot better and is way less common. Or maybe [name_u]Tate[/name_u]?

I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy. I don’t have children myself and I imagine whether it would be seen as a girl name would vary by region. [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] on a boy feels almost refreshing to me now, since I’ve seen/heard of it being used on girls so much in the last decade or so, and while it has seen more use on girls lately, I don’t think people would be shocked to see it used on a boy. [name_u]Taylor[/name_u] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] is a great, solid combo.
