My DH and I are expecting our first child in [name_u]August[/name_u]! We don’t know if it will be a boy or girl, but we are having the worst time trying to come up with a boy’s name. Right now we’re leaning toward [name_m]Frederick[/name_m], but I’m afraid it’s too old-fashioned. What are your thoughts on [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]? We know we either want [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] (after DH) or [name_u]Michael[/name_u] (after my FIL) to be the MN. We like strong traditional names for the most part, but we are open to others. I’m also a teacher, so I have name association problems…!
Also, what do you think of NN spelling [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] or [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]? I like the -ie ending, but DH says it’s feminine.
I adore [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. I think [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] both flow well and sound handsome. I think I lean toward honoring your father-in-law over your husband. I like both spellings, [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] and [name_u]Freddie[/name_u], but prefer [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. I do not think [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] is feminine at all.
I too love [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] nn [name_m]Fred[/name_m] or [name_u]Freddy[/name_u]/[name_u]Freddie[/name_u] (either is fine)-- it’s a great name that should be used more. Either [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] or [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] are handsome combinations.
I like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. I don’t see it as being old fashioned, I see it as more of a vintage name ready for a come back. I would love to meet a little boy with this name.
I like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] with the nn [name_m]Fred[/name_m]/[name_u]Freddy[/name_u]. I prefer the [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] spelling to [name_u]Freddie[/name_u]. I like the way it looks better. When I see [name_u]Freddy[/name_u] it makes me think of a fun and energetic little boy who always has a smile on his face. I think of a little boy who likes to get into trouble but can also be so sweet and charming. I don’t see [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] as being feminine, I just don’t like it as much. I don’t get that same vibe. Either would be fine though. I like the combination of [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] too.
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is my all time favorite boy name! Its so well rounded; it’s so strong and traditional without being commonplace. You can’t go wrong! And I think [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] sounds lovely!
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] is a good, solid name, but then again, I don’t see anything wrong with more old-fashioned names. Both [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and [name_u]Michael[/name_u] are great choices for a middle name, but I prefer the flow of [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] [name_u]Michael[/name_u] myself.
I think it’s a great name and one I’ve seen mentioned more lately so I think it’s likely on the verge of a comeback. I don’t think [name_u]Freddie[/name_u] looks more feminine than [name_u]Freddy[/name_u]. I think most of the time I see it spelled with the -ie, but I think it’s not such a big deal. You can easily change around the spelling of a nickname. The numbers for last year, 2014, will come out next month so it will be interesting to see if there is any movement up or down for the name.

I like [name_m]Frederick[/name_m]. It’s a family name in my family, so my dad, brother and grandfather all have the name.
It’s vintage, but definitely not outdated. Plus, a boy named [name_m]Frederick[/name_m] could go by [name_m]Fred[/name_m], [name_u]Freddy[/name_u], [name_m]Rick[/name_m] or [name_m]Derick[/name_m] for short.
