[name_m]Hi[/name_m], Berries. You were so helpful in helping me find names for my two babies that I’m back for help finding a name for a friend’s first baby! She’s due in 11 short weeks and can’t find a single name she’d consider using for her little boy. Things to consider:
Last name is three syllables, starts with G, ends with n, and sounds/feels kind of like fireman. That said she’s not okay with G names and isn’t crazy about names ending in “n” but would consider one if it’s the right feel.
Her husband likes “epic” names. [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] is his top seed but she feels names like that are too much weight for a kid to bear.
She wants something with at least two syllables and likes names that lend themselves to natural nicknames but that isn’t a requirement. Ideally something that feels familiar but isn’t terribly common or overused.
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] is one name she said she does like but it’s unusable in their case. Other unusable names include [name_m]David[/name_m], [name_m]Matthew[/name_m], and [name_m]Richard[/name_m].
Bonus points if you can find a name that ties to [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] or [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] but that’s not necessary.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] reminds me of [name_u]Elias[/name_u], [name_u]Ellis[/name_u], [name_m]Elio[/name_m], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] or [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] for a boy.

I like the suggestions of [name_u]Arlo[/name_u], [name_m]Leander[/name_m] & [name_u]Wilder[/name_u] - reminiscent of [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] & [name_m]William[/name_m] but more “epic.”
To honor a [name_f]Kathy[/name_f]/Katherine, perhaps she would like [name_u]Kiernan[/name_u]. Aside from that it I’d suggest maybe [name_u]Kit[/name_u], [name_u]Kai[/name_u], Kenner, [name_m]Keane[/name_m] or other K-name.
To honor an [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] perhaps a middle of [name_u]Ellison[/name_u], or [name_m]Gage[/name_m] because it means oath/pledge (elizabeth meaning god is my oath or pledged to god). The alternate meaning for [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is “god is my abundance” so a possible “epic” name they might like is [name_m]Jethro[/name_m], which means abundance as well.
I also thought about [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] because it has part of [name_f]Kathy[/name_f] and part of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] in it. It’s more on the classic side like mum likes - but they could give an epic middle name for dad.
In terms of honoring [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] I wondered about [name_m]Lysander[/name_m]? It’s got an [name_m]Alexander[/name_m] feel to it but sort of epic like [name_m]Apollo[/name_m] too. There is also a nice connection to [name_m]Shakespeare[/name_m].
For honoring [name_f]Kathy[/name_f], it would be an unusual name but there is an actual name [name_m]Cathal[/name_m] (or Kathal). A link to WIkipedia is here: Cathal - Wikipedia
The meaning is from battle and rule and so speaks to the epic aspect of the name again. And there is no female equivalent according to the article. Perhaps as a mn if not a fn?
