Baby boy

DH and I have decided, almost, on [name]Judah[/name] [name]Mac[/name] - the latter is a family name. But does that sound like a cartoon character? Hmmm. Help appreciated!

No, [name]Judah[/name] is not a good girls name. I can’t see that becoming a problem. And I think Biblical names are such a part of our society, they are just execpted as names. I don’t think you have to be [name]Christian[/name] to use them.

My son’s name is [name]Judah[/name], so I’m biased, but it’s a great name! My DH and I both come from religious Jewish families but we ourselves are less religious so I guess our extended family is, as you say, extremely religious, but we are not. I’ve never seen [name]Judah[/name] on a girl, though [name]Jude[/name] is a plausible nickname for the female name [name]Judith[/name], so that could be why you’ve heard it on girls before. [name]Judah[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] is beautiful (our son is [name]Judah[/name] [name]Elias[/name]), and while it is biblical, it doesn’t not scream religious. Biblical names have been used in American culture for such a long time now that they are considered pretty mainstream and even classic in many cases.

So glad to hear from someone who used [name]Judah[/name], too. I love [name]Judah[/name] [name]Elias[/name] - what a great combo. I think I just needed reassurance after some comments from family … thanks so much.

I love the name [name]Judah[/name] and [name]Jude[/name]. However, I think gender-bending names will be much more difficult for biblical names. I think she will be continually getting mail saying Mr. [name]Judah[/name] ____.

[name]Judah[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] sounds great to me, very strong and masculine. I have never seen or heard it used on a girl. I don’t see it ever becoming that popular or turning into a girls name. While I recognized [name]Judah[/name] as a biblical name, I didn’t know [name]Nathaniel[/name] was too. I don’t think it makes a difference.

[name]Judah[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name] is a great name! I don’t think it is overly religious; I asked my hubby, who is a very liberal [name]Christian[/name], and he doesn’t think it is either. It is a classic boy’s name and has been for hundreds of years so I don’t see it becoming popular for girls. There may be a FEW girls named [name]Jude[/name] but I see [name]Jude[/name] as quite distinct from [name]Judah[/name].

It’s so funny you posted this, because I just came here to search “[name]Judah[/name]” with similar concerns. My husband and I also love this name and keep coming back to it for our baby boy coming this summer. (We’re leaning towards [name]Judah[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]). We’ve gotten some negative feedback from family and friends, particularly with the concern that it reminds people of “[name]Judas[/name]” and thus he might have a life of people wondering why his parents named his after such a bad guy. (Meanwhile [name]Judah[/name] Macabee is an old testament hero). We’re also not extremely religious, though we are secular Jewish. It’s nice to hear positive feedback about the name. (We’re also considering [name]Ezra[/name] and [name]Levi[/name] but always seem to like [name]Judah[/name] just a bit more). Have you heard the [name]Judas[/name] concern at all?

[name]Judah[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name] is wonderful. We too just seem to like this name that much more than anything else.
