[name]Hi[/name] Berries,
We just found out that my son [name]Ian[/name] is having a baby brother, so now my name search begins in earnest!
Here are a few names I like the sound of, but they don’t all fit my criteria. I think I’d like to stay away from a vowel-beginning or something that would end in -an or -en and sound too close to ‘[name]Ian[/name].’ I’m open to suggestions! Thanks!
[name]Arthur[/name]
[name]Bennet[/name]
[name]Brody[/name]
[name]Corin[/name]/[name]Cor[/name]
[name]Finn[/name] (getting overused right now, so I’m not sure about this one)
[name]Gideon[/name]
[name]Gilbert[/name] (nn [name]Gibbie[/name])
[name]Lewis[/name]
[name]Malcolm[/name]
[name]Miles[/name], [name]Myles[/name]
[name]Silas[/name]
[name]Trevor[/name]

Arthur- I like this with Ian a lot
Bennet - I like this too!
Brody- nms at all, trendier than the other names listed
Corin/Cor- I know it’s unisex but I think of Corin as a feminine name, Corbin? Also sounds a lot like Corn.
Finn (getting overused right now, so I’m not sure about this one)- I agree also, ending sounds rhyme with Ian, i would get tongue tied and call him Fian
Gideon- Gid-ian, nope to close
Gilbert (nn Gibbie)- this is nice but do you think it’s ready to come back? I like nn Gibbie and namesake from Anne of green Gables books
Lewis- very nice, love the spelling
Malcolm- love! One of my faves.
Miles, Myles- Prefer miles spelling, goes very nicely with Ian
Silas- this is ok, personally has never done much for me and not the best match with Ian imho
Trevor- goes nicely with Ian, i think it’s sounding fresh again and has that whole British RAF WW2 theme going for it with Ian
My favorites to go with i an from this list are Arthur, Bennett, Gilbert, Lewis, Malcolm, Miles and Trevor. Handsome list with a lot of great options! Good luck!
Thanks, Kashed! Great comments - it’s nice to hear from someone else if you’re going in the right or not! Sometimes I go over my list so much sometimes it’s hard to see it with fresh eyes!
Before I looked at your list, I made my own list and I also came up with [name]Corin[/name], [name]Lewis[/name], [name]Malcolm[/name], [name]Trevor[/name] and [name]Miles[/name] like you. I think they’re all handsome names that are familiar but not overused just like [name]Ian[/name]. [name]Lewis[/name] and [name]Malcolm[/name] are probably my faves though.
From your other names, I don’t think [name]Brody[/name] and [name]Finn[/name] work with [name]Ian[/name]. To me they’re too trendy and popular whereas [name]Ian[/name] has both a classic and a modern vibe. [name]Gideon[/name] to me also rhymes with [name]Ian[/name] and [name]Silas[/name] has a completely different fell than [name]Ian[/name] and I’m not sure I like it. [name]Arthur[/name] and [name]Bennet[/name] are great with [name]Ian[/name], especially [name]Arthur[/name]. I’m sort of on the fence with [name]Gilbert[/name]; not sure it’s ready for a comeback, but I can also see the appeal and it’s quiet nice with [name]Ian[/name]. [name]Gibbie[/name] is adorable and there’s also [name]Bertie[/name] as a nn.
The other names I came up with:
[name]Graham[/name]
[name]Derek[/name]
[name]Travis[/name]
[name]Grant[/name]
[name]Desmond[/name]
[name]Harry[/name]
[name]Patrick[/name]
[name]Byron[/name]
[name]Heath[/name]
[name]Mitchell[/name]
[name]Garrett[/name]
[name]Warren[/name]
[name]Warrick[/name]
[name]Adam[/name]
[name]Timothy[/name]
[name]Peter[/name]
[name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Simon[/name]
[name]Drew[/name]
[name]Hugh[/name]
[name]Dale[/name]
[name]Colin[/name]
[name]Dean[/name]
Out of the names you picked I think [name]Malcom[/name] goes best with [name]Ian[/name]. I really love the way they look and sound together!
[name]Ian[/name] & [name]Malcolm[/name]
