Baby brother for Julian! Help please!

We are so excited to welcome our second baby boy to our family. Our older son is [name_m]Julian[/name_m] (almost 3…born in [name_u]July[/name_u], hence the name!). Our new baby boy is due in [name_f]October[/name_f], but likely coming in late [name_f]September[/name_f] (no [name_m]Octavius[/name_m] or [name_m]Septimus[/name_m] suggestions please haha!).

My spouse would like another name of antiquity, but it’s not necessary. I don’t want to repeat the J for baby boy #2 if I can avoid it. We both like Biblical names, but again, not necessary. Above all, I want to give him a name he can be proud of and is beautiful like [name_m]Julian[/name_m]! I don’t want him to be made fun of! We like family names, but not required (noted below). We don’t want it to be super popular.

Our last name begins with an S. Family names noted in parenthesis.

Additionally, if we coalesce around the “[name_f]Mar[/name_f]” names like [name_m]Marcus[/name_m]…which it seems like we may have been lately…we’ve been toying with [name_m]Marcus[/name_m], [name_m]Marius[/name_m] (my beloved grandmothers were both [name_f]Mary[/name_f]), and [name_m]Marcel[/name_m]. Is [name_m]Marius[/name_m] too much? Which do you prefer (rank)?

I like [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]/[name_u]August[/name_u] best with [name_m]Julian[/name_m], and I would personally be less prone to use it if he was born in [name_u]August[/name_u], not more prone. I also like [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] as a distant second.
I am also a big fan of [name_m]Marius[/name_m]. I think it’s completely usable, intuitively pronounced, and there is something straight up magical about a male child having a female namesake. I prefer [name_m]Marius[/name_m] over [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] and [name_m]Marcel[/name_m]. I just in general like it best, and I also like it best with [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. Good luck!

I love [name_m]Julian[/name_m]! As you can see it’s in my signature. It’s been my favorite boy name since I was in high school about 20 years back.

As for a new little brother, here are my thoughts on your list:

[name_m]Elijah[/name_m]-This is nice. It’s awfully popular.

[name_u]Robin[/name_u]/[name_m]Robert[/name_m]-I don’t know…[name_u]Robin[/name_u] just seems like one of those names that’s too girly for a boy yet too masculine for a girl. [name_m]Robert[/name_m] isn’t bad; I’m not a fan of the nns. They all seem sort of dated.

[name_u]Theo[/name_u]-Very cute, but better as a nn for [name_m]Theodore[/name_m]. [name_m]Julian[/name_m] & [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] are darling for brothers.

[name_m]Leo[/name_m]-I like this! Spunky, smart & boyish.

[name_m]Milo[/name_m]-Hm. This is like [name_m]Leo[/name_m], but I think that I like it even more.

[name_m]Philip[/name_m]-This is a nice classic that you don’t hear much. I love the nns [name_m]Pip[/name_m] & [name_u]Flip[/name_u].

[name_u]Constantine[/name_u]-This is way too much.

[name_m]Marcus[/name_m]-It’s okay. I don’t love this for some reason. It just sounds bratty. I kind of like [name_m]Marius[/name_m] most.

[name_u]Elias[/name_u]-Ooh, I like this. A bit more interesting than [name_m]Elijah[/name_m].

[name_u]Lionel[/name_u]-I like nerdy names, but this is a little too nerdy for me.

[name_m]Paul[/name_m]-I like it. See [name_m]Philip[/name_m].

[name_m]Basil[/name_m]-Very cool!

[name_m]Ignatius[/name_m]-Oh, this is fun. Kind of different…maybe a little too much. You could do the nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u] here, which is fun.

I really like your style; [name_m]Basil[/name_m] and [name_u]Robin[/name_u] are two favorites of mine so I’m glad to see them considered.

I don’t like [name_m]Marcus[/name_m] or [name_m]Marcel[/name_m] but [name_m]Marius[/name_m] is quite nice. What about [name_m]Marshall[/name_m], [name_u]Marlow[/name_u] or [name_m]Martin[/name_m]?

Quite like many of the names you have listed, but thought I would suggest [name_m]Marcello[/name_m] ~ has the O sound you like at the end, is a venerable name for your husband, and I love the idea of naming him after your [name_f]Marys[/name_f], so thought this might work!

I really like [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m], but it kind of gives off some [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] vibes, which is cool too. I also like your spouse’s pick, [name_u]Constantine[/name_u]. It’s a very strong name, very memorable, but I’d worry that him just having that name would cause him to outshine his brother [name_m]Julian[/name_m].

One of my favorite names is [name_m]Erasmus[/name_m]. It’s of Greek origins and it means “desired, beloved”

[name_u]Lionel[/name_u] nn [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - kind of the best of both worlds I think; your spouse gets their antiquated grandpa name and you get your cute, o-ending short name!
[name_u]Robin[/name_u] - I just really like this, it’s such a versatile name and pairs very well with [name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Marius[/name_m]/[name_m]Marcus[/name_m] - either one is great with [name_m]Julian[/name_m], and what a great way to honor two [name_f]Marys[/name_f]!
[name_u]Elias[/name_u] - another commonality between your list and your spouse’s was a name that started with “[name_m]Eli[/name_m].” [name_m]Elijah[/name_m] also works but I think [name_u]Elias[/name_u] is a better match for [name_m]Julian[/name_m]

[name_m]Elijah[/name_m] and [name_m]Robert[/name_m] are so cute and fit right in with [name_m]Julian[/name_m]. If this were me I would start with a name that ended in an O and for the middle name go with something familial.
