Not TTC #7 yet, but hopefully will be in a few months.
We have six kids:
[name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]William[/name_m] (“[name_m]Will[/name_m]”), [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_m]Zachary[/name_m] (“[name_m]Zach[/name_m]”), [name_u]George[/name_u], and [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] (occasionally called “Dar Dar”).
We’ll (hopefully) be Team [name_u]Green[/name_u] this time, for the grand finale of having a baby. Obviously we make a lot of boys and tend to like traditional type names, though we are running out of ones we like. We also try to avoid repeating a first initial. To avoid gender disappointment when it’s totally another boy, I am going to focus on finding an awesome name that at the very least won’t clash with his siblings’.
Here is my short list:
[name_m]Linus[/name_m] (husband laughs; not a good sign!)
[name_m]Clement[/name_m]
[name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] “[name_m]Larry[/name_m]”—would kind of be like a [name_m]Junior[/name_m] because my name is [name_f]Laura[/name_f]. However, lately I’m getting serious [name_m]Larry[/name_m] Nassar vibes and not sure I can overcome them
[name_m]Silas[/name_m] “[name_u]Si[/name_u]”
[name_m]Richard[/name_m] “[name_m]Richie[/name_m]”—this was my pick for our youngest but my husband vetoed it really hard last time
I really love every name on your list here, and I think they could all work well. [name_f]My[/name_f] own personal preferences lean toward [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] and [name_m]Richard[/name_m] (if you can persuade your husband this time!) with your other children.
I particularly like [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] because of its connection to your name, but I’m not so sure about [name_m]Larry[/name_m]. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like any other nicknames for [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u]? I suppose many of them might be too close to your name (i.e. [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]), but perhaps [name_m]Law[/name_m], [name_u]Ren[/name_u], or [name_m]Lance[/name_m]?
I love [name_u]Laurie[/name_u] but I can almost promise my husband will insist that it’s only for girls.
[name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is our son [name_u]George[/name_u]’s middle name.
Evan—don’t want another E name
[name_m]Albert[/name_m]—don’t want another A name

[name_u]Landon[/name_u]—know a kid; don’t love it
[name_m]Damon[/name_m]—“demon”
[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] “[name_u]Rory[/name_u]”—[name_u]Dorian[/name_u] is okay
[name_m]Preston[/name_m] “[name_u]Percy[/name_u]”—I like [name_u]Percy[/name_u] due to [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] the [name_m]Tank[/name_m] Engine

[name_m]Damon[/name_m]—see above
[name_u]Remy[/name_u]—close friend of [name_u]George[/name_u]’s
[name_u]Bennett[/name_u]—not really into “[name_m]Ben[/name_m]” names but might be able to be talked into [name_u]Benjamin[/name_u]
[name_u]Dustin[/name_u]—good friend’s husband
[name_m]Grant[/name_m]/Graham—don’t want another G name
[name_m]Quintin[/name_m] “[name_u]Quinn[/name_u]” “[name_u]Quincy[/name_u]”—too fussy
[name_m]Caleb[/name_m]—cousin’s kid
[name_m]Gideon[/name_m]—too giddy
[name_u]Nolan[/name_u]—my cousin
[name_u]Miles[/name_u]—would have named [name_f]Elise[/name_f] this had she been a boy, but not that into it anymore
[name_u]Claude[/name_u]—DH would laugh
[name_m]Terrence[/name_m]—“[name_m]Terrence[/name_m] & [name_m]Phillip[/name_m]”
[name_u]Tate[/name_u]—know one
[name_m]Malcom[/name_m]—neighbor’s name
[name_m]Alec[/name_m]—would be mistakenly called [name_u]Alex[/name_u]

[name_m]Josiah[/name_m]—“
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]—cousin’s new baby
[name_u]Griffin[/name_u] “[name_u]Finn[/name_u]”—don’t like it, reminds me of a gargoyle
[name_u]Leland[/name_u]—strongly dislike
[name_m]Franklin[/name_m]—like but DH doesn’t
[name_u]Tanner[/name_u]—bad association
[name_u]Cody[/name_u]—not traditional/ classic enough
[name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] “[name_u]Niko[/name_u]”—too exotic; maybe [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]
[name_m]Lawson[/name_m]—tend not to like -son names for boys
[name_m]Edwin[/name_m]—dislike [name_m]Ed[/name_m]
[name_m]Desmond[/name_m]—like
[name_m]Emil[/name_m]—repeat initial “E”
[name_m]Cecil[/name_m]—starting to like due to Call the Midwife. ETA: maybe I am thinking of Cyril!
[name_m]Hoyt[/name_m]—husband will laugh and make a bad joke about putting the “[name_m]Hoyt[/name_m] down” if you kids don’t listen!
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]—husband’s boss’s kid
[name_m]Harvey[/name_m]—like it but Weinstein
[name_m]Forrest[/name_m]—Gump
Cornelius—too much Corn
[name_m]Walter[/name_m]—repeat of first initial
[name_u]Francis[/name_u]—running joke in our family that DH’s middle name is [name_u]Francis[/name_u] (like [name_m]Joe[/name_m] [name_u]Francis[/name_u] of “Girls Gone [name_u]Wild[/name_u]” infamy) but it’s not
The names you have listed are all great. Here are a couple of others for you:
Charles nn [name_u]Charlie[/name_u]
[name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] / [name_m]Lochlan[/name_m]
[name_m]Raphael[/name_m] nn [name_m]Ralphie[/name_m]
[name_m]Christopher[/name_m] / [name_u]Christian[/name_u]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]
[name_u]Oliver[/name_u]
[name_m]Paul[/name_m]
I find the names that fall strictly into the traditional style is actually quite small. I would say [name_u]James[/name_u] and [name_m]William[/name_m] are core traditionalists from your cohort and [name_u]George[/name_u] a strong classic. [name_m]Arthur[/name_m] with [name_m]Linus[/name_m], [name_m]Clement[/name_m] and [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] leans British vintage and gentlemanly to me. I’d suggest along this line [name_u]Maxwell[/name_u], [name_m]Hector[/name_m], [name_m]Stanley[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m], [name_m]Victor[/name_m] and [name_u]Lionel[/name_u]. [name_m]Richard[/name_m] reminds me of other strong staples like [name_m]Mark[/name_m], [name_m]Stephen[/name_m], [name_u]Timothy[/name_u] and [name_m]Peter[/name_m] that are very slowly but gradually slipping down the chart. There’s also lesser used [name_m]Patrick[/name_m], [name_m]Stuart[/name_m] and [name_u]Douglas[/name_u].
[name_m]Zachary[/name_m] has old roots yet feels modern due to current usage patterns. I think [name_u]Tristan[/name_u] would fit in quite well for similar reasons. [name_m]Luke[/name_m], too. [name_m]Silas[/name_m] seems like more of a departure from your style than the other names on your short list although it’s a good match for [name_m]Zachary[/name_m]. Since you’ve commented on sound similarities as an issue for other names I will mention that [name_m]Silas[/name_m] is somewhat close to [name_f]Elise[/name_f] with those ‘l’ and ‘s’ sounds. [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] strikes me as a good alternative within the realms of your boarder style. [name_u]Or[/name_u] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]. Last suggestion is [name_u]Beau[/name_u] for the subtle nod to [name_u]French[/name_u] [name_f]Elise[/name_f].
I think [name_u]Lawrence[/name_u] and [name_m]Richard[/name_m] from your short list are the most fitting with your brood and it sounds like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m] could soon join the list! I can see how difficult it would be to name another boy, especially with a lot of initials having been used up and having strong associations to many of the remaining names. I look forward to seeing more of your posts as you develop your list further.
Charles—I like; maybe as a middle
[name_m]Ralphie[/name_m]—love it but DH hates
[name_u]Oliver[/name_u]—nephew’s name
[name_m]Paul[/name_m]—LOVE, but DH wasn’t convinced when we named [name_u]George[/name_u]
