Baby due in 2 weeks and still no name! Help/opinions on my list

I can’t believe we still don’t have a name yet! The baby could literally be born any day now. I have a list but nothing on it really grabs me and seems like the right fit. We had a much easier time naming our daughter. As soon as we came up with her name we thought, “that’s it”, done. Not so this time around. Nothing seems “right” so far. I’m looking for a name that isn’t too common (No [name_m]Paul[/name_m], [name_m]John[/name_m], [name_u]James[/name_u], [name_m]Tim[/name_m], [name_m]William[/name_m], [name_m]Ben[/name_m], things like that) but isn’t too weird either. Something in the middle, in the elusive sweet spot. And of course something that goes with the middle and last name. Ugh! Difficult so far.

Our daughter’s name is [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f]. I find her name to be beautiful and feminine and really love it. I’m trying to find something unique and strong for our son. I also want to make sure the first names of the kids sound OK together. His middle name will be [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] (family name) and our last name is 3 syllables, spanish sounding, and starts with an S and ends with an O.

Here is my list, please give me any opinions and feel free to add any that you think would be good. I really need to pick a name ASAP!!

[name_u]Nico[/name_u] (I’ve been really wrestling with this one. Something about it doesn’t fit. I want it to be the nickname for a longer name but I haven’t found one I like. [name_m]Nickolai[/name_m] is already taken by another family member so it’s out. [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] seems too weird, Nikolaus seems too plain, [name_m]Nicomedes[/name_m] seems too weird… I would probably go with this if I could find a good longer name.)

So far my personal favorites are [name_u]Nico[/name_u] (although I like it as a nickname), [name_m]Jovanni[/name_m], [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m], [name_m]Gian[/name_m], [name_m]Samson[/name_m], and [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m].

Any ideas? Thoughts?

I love [name_m]Truett[/name_m]. I’d use it but our last name starts with a T and I think it sounds silly. I think [name_m]Truett[/name_m] [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] sounds distinguished and manly. Second choice from your list would be [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m]…again, I think [name_m]Cyrus[/name_m] [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] sounds great. Good luck!

I’m also due in a couple weeks and still not set on a name (we’re team green too), but [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is a favorite of mine, short for [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] though. My DH is named [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] but the 3rd…I’m not sure if I really want a 4th, although no one goes by [name_u]Nico[/name_u] in his family. It’s my recent favorite!

I like the sound of a shorter first name paired with [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m]. [name_m]Levi[/name_m] and [name_u]Nico[/name_u] are my top picks from your list. Best of luck! I’m sure you’ll know as soon as you lay eyes on him!

Thank you for all your suggestions and advice. Seems like we are still stuck. For some reason hubby and I can’t seem to agree on one.

“No, too English sounding.”
“OK, how about [name_u]Nico[/name_u]?”
“I like it but it’s too short.”

It goes on like this :-). I’m hoping the right name just sort of shows up, some sort of divine intervention. So far I love all the names everyone chose but I can’t say we’ve picked one. And I think baby is coming soon. Maybe some time this week!!

[name_u]Nico[/name_u] really is a great name. I just think on it’s own it seems too short. If it’s a nickname I think it’s perfect.

I really like [name_m]Truett[/name_m] [name_m]Hamilton[/name_m] and think [name_m]Truett[/name_m] and [name_f]Lilliana[/name_f] flow well together.

What about [name_m]Josiah[/name_m], [name_m]Raphael[/name_m], [name_m]Gideon[/name_m], or [name_u]Micah[/name_u]? Common, but not too common.

[name_u]Nico[/name_u]: if nothing along the lines of [name_m]Nicolas[/name_m] works, consider using it for a name like [name_m]Domenico[/name_m]? Not sure if you’d like that in combo w your last name, just another idea how you could get to [name_u]Nico[/name_u].

If you like [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m], what about [name_m]Caspian[/name_m], [name_m]Caspar[/name_m], [name_u]Florian[/name_u] or [name_m]Fabian[/name_m]?
I think [name_u]Florian[/name_u] could be the next [name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] - common in Europe, but not yet in the US.

I like someone’s idea of [name_u]Nico[/name_u] as nickname for [name_m]Dominic[/name_m]. Why don’t you like [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m]? It seems like a nickname that shortens to [name_u]Nico[/name_u] is the obvious choice because that’s what you both love. You could do [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] or any form of [name_m]Nicholas[/name_m], including [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m] which has a different spelling than your family member’s [name_m]Nickolai[/name_m].

and for the record, I don’t think [name_m]Nicodemus[/name_m] or [name_m]Nicomedes[/name_m] are too weird. They sound like [name_m]Maximillian[/name_m] but once you shorten it to [name_u]Max[/name_u] (or in your case [name_u]Nico[/name_u]) it’s much more accessible! Go with your heart!
