Our first child, Emrys McIntyre was born on Boxing Day, 26th December 2022.
We knew we wanted a magical name, that would connect to a fandom we both loved. After weeks of trying to convince my partner, Scott, that Merlin was a perfectly acceptable baby name, we finally settled on Emrys. Huge fans of the BBC series Merlin, Emrys (Merlin’s druid name and alter-ego in the show) is the perfect moniker for our little boy. We love that it is unusual and yet traditional; it sounds unique and yet familiar.
His middle name McIntyre is to honour my family. My mother’s maiden name is McIntyre and my paternal grandmother’s maiden name is also McIntyre (purely by coincidence and not by relation). As such, I’ve felt a strong connection to this Scottish clan and I’m pleased to pass this name on to my child.
I’ve been a long time Nameberry nerd (over a couple of accounts due to my own name changes), and I really felt the pressure to pick the ‘perfect’ name for what will likely be my only child. Over 10 years of hypothetical browsing, and then suddenly you only have a few months to make the real-life, final decision. I could not be happier with our chosen name, it suits our little Emrys perfectly.
Joanna and Scott.
