We’re expecting our 2nd daughter in [name_u]March[/name_u], and need help with names that go with our first daughter’s name, [name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u]. Our last name starts with a Y, so I’m not big on names ending in Y. I don’t really want names that start with D, G or I (don’t like writing those capital letters), or names with a hard “a” sounds like [name_f]Sadie[/name_f], [name_u]Casey[/name_u], etc. (don’t like the way they sound with our last name). So far, these are my favorites:
Both [name_f]Lillie[/name_f] and [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] are cute, but [name_f]Lillie[/name_f] maybe goes better with [name_u]Josie[/name_u] in terms of style. [name_u]Josie[/name_u] is sort of down-home, country, vintage, cozy, and timeless, whereas [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] is more sophisticated [name_m]French[/name_m] and was not used in English until very recently.
I know you’re trying to avoid the -y ending because of your surname, but I think the [name_f]Lillie[/name_f] spelling is much more casual and also difficult to spell, and it would be better to go with [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] Y-- looks fine to me. But I do understand your feelings. What about [name_f]Lillian[/name_f] with [name_f]Lillie[/name_f] as a nickname?
[name_f]Jemma[/name_f] is not a classic like [name_u]Josie[/name_u] and is a bit made-up… [name_f]Gemma[/name_f] would be the better spelling. It’s nevertheless a little trendy.
What about [name_u]Charlie[/name_u] ([name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]), [name_f]Mollie[/name_f], [name_f]Evie[/name_f], or [name_f]Annie[/name_f]?
[name_f]Lillian[/name_f] seems like a great compromise though.
[name_u]Josie[/name_u] [name_u]Monroe[/name_u] is really pretty.
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f] and [name_f]Jemma[/name_f] [name_f]Colette[/name_f] are so nice. I would choose [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] [name_f]Mae[/name_f], because one, it happens to be even more my taste than [name_f]Jemma[/name_f], but [name_f]Elodie[/name_f] sounds better with [name_u]Josie[/name_u]. Unless you like alliteration with both girls having the same first initials.
