Baby girl #3

We are having a hard time naming baby girl #3. Top choices are [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] and [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]. We are both from Italian heritage, Italian last name. Sisters are [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Discarded [name_f]Lia[/name_f], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], and [name_f]Livia[/name_f]. Middle name [name_f]Joy[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f].

  • spelling [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] the Italian way instead of the American way
  • [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] might feel made up. We love it because it’s feminine. We love [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] but don’t want nn and [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is too long not to end up with a nn

Both options are beautiful but [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is my favourite (although the “-lia” ending makes it too similar to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], in my opinion). [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is stunning and has the same number of syllables as [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] so I wouldn’t say it’s too long. [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] would likely be misspelt a lot in a non-Italian speaking area of the US, which could become a pain for her after awhile.

Some alternatives:

[name_f]Alessia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisa[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Lucia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosa[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]

I don’t think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] works with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]. And [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] would get endlessly misspelled. I know what it’s like, and it gets annoying, so I’d advice against it. [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is beautiful, with or without a nickname.

I love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] (which is not at all made up), but I feel like, with the ‘lia’ ending, it is a little close to [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]… So I think I’m leaning towards [name_f]Lidia[/name_f], which is equally lovely! I don’t think the spelling will matter too much, but I would definitely recommend spelling it [name_f]Lydia[/name_f]. After all, [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] are not the authentic Italian spellings either.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], & [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] would make a darling sister set! [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] gets my vote.

[name_f]Lidia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is perfect! I don’t think you need to look any further.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

I love love [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]! It’s not made up. It’s just a form of [name_f]Lily[/name_f]. I think it has such a beautiful & slightly majestic sound. [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] is pretty too. It will get misspelled a lot, but I kind of think that it’s worth it to honor your Italian heritage. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Liddie[/name_f]? [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Lili[/name_f]/[name_f]Lily[/name_f]? If you don’t like one of those, then that could help you decide. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] is my personal favorite. It’s the name of my favorite gymnast when I was a kid during the 96’ Olympics, so I have a special spot for it. And my mom named her cat [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] because of her too, LOL. ;).

I like [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] best - the sounds are distinctive from her sisters

I like both names. [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] doesn’t sound made-up to me. It’s common in some countries, especially in Eastern Europe.

[name_f]Lidia[/name_f] is also very nice but I would be concerned about it being constantly spelled as “[name_f]Lydia[/name_f]”, given that [name_f]Lydia[/name_f] is relatively popular in the USA but [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] doesn’t rank at all.

I prefer [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] out of the two names it’s actually a favourite of mine. I just think [name_f]Lilia[/name_f] & [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] are too similar in sound. Whereas I think [name_f]Lidia[/name_f] will prove a headache with the name being spelled/pronounced incorrectly constantly. I think [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] is pretty and works with [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] & [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. [name_f]Liliana[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] would be lovely.
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Alessia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Camilla[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Gabriella[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliana[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Victoria[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
[name_f]Primrose[/name_f] [name_f]Anna[/name_f]
