We have a trouble finding name that feels right. With our first child (boy [name_m]Mattias[/name_m]) I knew it’s his name when I picked it.
This time is much harder…
I like [name_f]Mila[/name_f], but DH doesnt:(
He likes [name_f]Maia[/name_f], but I don’t.
So there are two names we both kinda like.
Please give your associations and thoughts to the names listed below.
We had a bigger list, now it’s down to these names:
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sonia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mikaela[/name_f] nn [name_u]Mika[/name_u] ([name_f]Meeka[/name_f])
Congratulations and welcome to your baby daughter.
I was wondering if you are wanting 2 ‘M’ names that you have considered so many. I find the names sound somewhat ‘matching.’ I would choose [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] to go with [name_m]Mattias[/name_m]. Best wishes.
[name_f]Sofia[/name_f] nn [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] - I think [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is all right and works well with [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]. Nickname for [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is Soof or [name_f]Fia[/name_f] if you need one. I do not think [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] works as a nickname for [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] it’s a completely different name on its own.
[name_f]Mikaela[/name_f] nn [name_u]Mika[/name_u] ([name_f]Meeka[/name_f]) - I don’t know why but [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f] always seemed an honour name to me. I’m guessing another M name isn’t something that bothers you as you considered [name_f]Maia[/name_f] and [name_f]Mila[/name_f] before. So not my taste but all right to use.
Personally, I’d go with [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] as it’s a great name on it’s own and not as popular as [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]. [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f] sounds good.
I love [name_f]Sonia[/name_f], such an underused beauty of a name! I think that if you’re going to call your child [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] than just name her that. I think [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] is an entirely different name and is style probably in the top 5 in almost the entire western world. There’s a book my sister-in-law got my kids called “[name_f]Sonya[/name_f]'s Chickens” and they love it. [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] is in my opinion a more “clean” and attractive spelling of it. [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] [name_f]Mikaela[/name_f]/[name_f]Michaela[/name_f] sounds beautiful, unique and refreshing.
I’m Ukrainian and in our country [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] and [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] is the same name. If you are [name_f]Sofia[/name_f], you called [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] as nn. It’s not an independent name. But I like the idea of using it as just [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] in US. I wasn’t sure about perception, as I didn’t grow up here. Someone told me it’s an old ladies name feel. I’m glad I got so many positive votes.
I don’t mind M name, as my husband’s name is [name_u]Michael[/name_u], older son is [name_m]Mattias[/name_m], I go by Mom:)) so we thought it would be fun to have another M name. But It’s not a priority
I think [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] is such a great name. I understand that you view it as a nn for [name_f]Sofia[/name_f] (also beautiful) but think of all the [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_u]Charlie[/name_u], [name_m]Hank[/name_m] etc which were originally nick names only. [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] and [name_m]Matthias[/name_m] are great as a sib set. I also like [name_f]Sofia[/name_f]. I think [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] will age better than [name_u]Mika[/name_u]. Congrats on your baby girl!
OP, I have just popped in again after my first post to say that now I understand how you get nickname [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] - (from the Ukrainian perspective), I would heartily agree with all PP’s who express their like for the name on its own. Its really lovely - [name_f]Sonia[/name_f] or [name_f]Sonya[/name_f]. Not common and been used for people of different ages in cases I do know. I think it would be a lovely choice.
