I know a little girl named [name]Beau[/name] as well. It’s certainly masculine but can be done.
This is the perfect reason not to use this name on a girl. [name]Even[/name] if you are in the middle of [name]America[/name] and have no connection to the French speaking world, that dose not mean that you daughter will not in her life time - do you want her to have to deal with that?
I have been thinking about [name]Beau[/name] and even [name]Beauregard[/name] on a girl and I think it’s especially cute with a double barrel hyphenated name if the second name is short. I hyphenated them all, but I like no hyphen for the longer mns…I also think it sounds great with nature inspired or flowery mns for some reason!
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Louise[/name]…this one is just gorgeous!
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Alexis[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Anna[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Frances[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Jasmine[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Lorraine[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Laurel[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Primrose[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Rosanna[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Marie[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Leonie[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Estelle[/name]
[name]Beau[/name]-[name]Veronica[/name]
The suggestion of [name]Isabeau[/name] is the only way I’d use this on a girl. [name]Beau[/name] is distinctly male, and while people do feminize boy names I’m not a fan of the trend.
I like the name [name]Beau[/name] and for me it is unisex! Although for me [name]Beau[/name] is more male and [name]Bo[/name] is more female.
I see that there aren’t many female [name]Bo[/name]'s in the US, but there are quite a few in Europe, so she wouldn’t be alone! (top 50 NL, top 100 BE)
[name]Isabeau[/name] is gorgeous as well!
Please please don’t give her the initials [name]BO[/name]. There’s no way she’d get away from being called Body Odor
It translates as “handsome” from French. For this reason I think it would be like naming a boy [name]Belle[/name], or [name]Bella[/name]! And it’s a bit cutesy. I second the suggestion that it be short for [name]Isabeau[/name].
For a girl, I would definitely spell it [name]Bo[/name]! The little girl in Signs is [name]Bo[/name]. Plus there’s [name]Bo[/name] [name]Derek[/name] (the actress). And with the spelling [name]Bo[/name], you eliminate the French masculine adjective reference making it more usable as a girl’s name, in my opinion.
I agree. It’s not the same as using [name]Taylor[/name] or [name]Sawyer[/name] or whatever for a girl. It’s hard to explain because in your language there are no grammatical genders. But to me beau on a girl isn’t a boy’s name on a girl, it’s a grammatical error in a name. It does feel kind of ignorant as well. I mean french is a language people come across. I would definitely avoid that, it kind of makes that name look a little stupid to us french speakers.
If you wanna use it anyway, I think [name]Bo[/name] would already make it much better.
Would you consider [name]Beulah[/name] as an alternative? I know it is a different sound but you could possibly use [name]Beau[/name] as a nickname. Most people hate it but I love it and wish people weren’t so turned off by it.
What about Boleyn?
I would only use [name]Beau[/name] as a nickname for [name]Isabeau[/name] or even Christabeau.
I love the name on a boy but I think it could be really cute on a girl. In my opinion though, the name [name]Beau[/name] doesn’t age very well. It’s adorable on a child, but not so much past that.
I think [name]Beau[/name] would make an adorable first name for a girl!
[name]Beau[/name] is actually the nn of my great aunt [name]Bonnie[/name], so maybe that’s why I don’t find it weird for a girl to be named that? Also there is an actress named [name]Beau[/name] [name]Garrett[/name] (she was in the Criminal Minds spin off last year).
I don’t like [name]Beau[/name] as a straight first name… Prefer it as a nickname to [name]Isabeau[/name] which is stunning.
I’m another one throwing out the French issue here…seven years of learning it in school has taught me that gender is so so important in the language. It’d be like referring to a little girl as ‘handsome’ all the time, I guess. Can’t really explain it as English lacks gender. Basically, to call someone good-looking you’d use belle for a female and beau for a man. [name]Even[/name] the name [name]Isabeau[/name] seems to me like the masculine form of [name]Isabelle[/name], because of the belle/beau distinction. If she ever goes to [name]France[/name] it’d be like if you met a boy named [name]Sarah[/name]… it’s too far across the gender line.
