I know these boards are pretty traditional and this name is unusual. DH and I both keep mentioning [name_m]Crew[/name_m] when we discuss girl names. I think of a preppy, classic and spunky little girl named [name_m]Crew[/name_m], but definitely want others opinions before we seriously consider this.
I could see [name_m]Crewe[/name_m], as in [name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_m]Crewe[/name_m] (the protagonist of A [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Princess[/name_f]), but that’s really the only way I see it working.
Hrm…It’s interesting to the say the least haha. I definitely see it as more masculine, but then again, [name_u]James[/name_u] is used as a girl’s name now. Crue looks much more appealing, but then I instantly thought of Cruella, which as a Disney character villian isn’t the worst connection hahahaha…I was skeptical at first but with names like [name_u]Rue[/name_u] and [name_f]Grier[/name_f], is [name_m]Crew[/name_m]/Crue really that far out?
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] my rambling helps! Good luck
I think [name_m]Crew[/name_m] is totally fine. It fits in with every other word name that’s trendy right now; I don’t see it as masculine or feminine because [name_m]Crew[/name_m] is more of a word in my mind, so I think it’ll work just fine on either sex. Good luck!
I was trying to think if there was a name that [name_m]Crew[/name_m] could be a nickname for - have come up all blank with Crusade being the best I could get - did discover that [name_u]Cruz[/name_u] was a recognised name on the site, though.
My twopenneth is that, though it may be a little different, if both you and your DH like it and you can discuss it with your family and friends without too many raised eyebrows, then go for it. A unique name to go with your little girl’s uniqueness may be perfect for her.
I picture it very masculine. I have [name_m]Crew[/name_m] [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m] on my boy guilty pleasure list. Maybe [name_u]Sailor[/name_u]? I picture [name_u]Sailor[/name_u] more feminine.
I think it’s very masculine. I get what your going for but I don’t think it works well for a girl. I would like it best as a boy name, probably in the middle spot.
It sounds a little masculine to me, but I actually think it sounds very cool and badass for a girl. If you can make it short for something (not Cruella but something similar) I think it’d be more widely accepted.
My first thought was [name_f]Sara[/name_f] [name_m]Crewe[/name_m], too! I have liked [name_m]Crewe[/name_m] as a middle name. If it works for you in the first name spot, I say go for it.
It’s not something that I would typically go for, but I actually really like it. I think spelling it [name_m]Crewe[/name_m] makes it feel more like a name and more feminine at the same time so I would probably go with that spelling.
It is like [name_u]Drew[/name_u]. … I tend to think of it as a boys name but I can it used fora girl. I think it works best with a feminine middle name so your daughter has options. [name_m]Crew[/name_m] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], [name_m]Crew[/name_m] [name_f]Annabel[/name_f], [name_m]Crew[/name_m] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_m]Crew[/name_m] [name_f]Catherine[/name_f].
Also what names would you consider for a sister or brother to [name_m]Crew[/name_m]?
I want to add that just because [name_m]Crew[/name_m] is a word names doesn’t automatically make it work for either gender. There are word names that are masculine sounding ([name_m]Atlas[/name_m], [name_m]Archer[/name_m], [name_m]Maverick[/name_m], [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] …) and feminine sounding ([name_f]Rose[/name_f], [name_f]Poppy[/name_f], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_f]Daisy[/name_f], …).
Off the cuff, I want to say, “No! Give your girl a girl name!”
But then I think of it for a few seconds and think it’s actually really cute and I get a preppy, spunky vibe, very much like [name_f]Greer[/name_f] or [name_u]Rowan[/name_u].
I don’t think of it as masculine. ([name_m]Even[/name_m] if you’re being super literal, there are women rowers, too, everyone.) The fact that it means multiple people does throw me off, and if I heard it said out loud I would assume it was a nickname. A very cute nickname, though. “[name_m]Crew[/name_m]” is also a weird word in that it’s associated both with gangs and with an upper-class sport. At least where I live, [name_u]Cruz[/name_u] is becoming crazy popular for little boys. So, all those things combined would make me less than thrilled about it, but certainly none are dealbreakers.
