Baby girl....Elliott?

I’m struggling! Really struggling. We just found out we are having a little girl this spring. I am in love with the name [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] for my little girl. My husband will go with it if I insist! I’m open to all honest opinions and suggestions. My son has a very traditional masculine name so it is very random that I love this name so much for a little girl. Am I being foolish or could this work? Thank you!

I love [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] on boys. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t steal it, LOL. :stuck_out_tongue:

If you really love it, go for it! What is your son’s name? It might help to see if [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] sounds masculine paired with it.

I can see the appeal, but would much prefer [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] for a girl. Essentially the same pronunciation, but clearly feminine. With nickname potential of [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f].

This topic has come up numerous times on here…you could probably search for other threads to read about the varying opinions.

Yep. There’s no need for [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] when Elliette exists.

Pick Elliette/[name_f]Eliette[/name_f]! It’s a gorgeous alternative.

There’s been an number of threads about [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] on a girl, but I just really don’t like it. There’s so many other much prettier [name_f]El[/name_f] names for a girl!

What about:
[name_f]Elsa[/name_f] - my personal favourite. What little girl wouldn’t love to be named after a disney princess? It’s so spunky and fun
[name_f]Elsie[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Eliza[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Elena[/name_f]

I know that it’s been done before (isn’t there a female [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] on the show Scrubs?) but I’m not a huge fan of it. That being said, if you REALLY want to use it, you should.

I agree with julery above, though. [name_f]LOVE[/name_f] [name_f]Elsa[/name_f]!

I think [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is a cute boy name when I think of the name of the little boy in the movie E.T. However, I would nevber use it b/c it has a slightly feminine sound to me (the [name_f]Elle[/name_f] sound I guess) and I would prefer the names [name_u]Everett[/name_u] or [name_u]Emmett[/name_u] for a boy over [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. I am a fan of unisex names for girls though, and I know many her on nameberry are not. [name_f]Marla[/name_f] Sokoloff the actree named her daughter [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. Not sure of the spelling she used though. Either one is fine. In the 80s and 90s when lots of little girls were named [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] I actually prefer the [name_u]Jordan[/name_u] spelling over the [name_u]Jordyn[/name_u] spelling for girls, same with [name_u]Sidney[/name_u] preferred over [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] for girls. I think Ellliette is pretty but looks like a unique (not in a good way to me spellig) and I prefer Elliotte or [name_u]Elliot[/name_u].

By the way, I think it is really really cute and love the nn [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and don’t think it is that common, at least I haven’t heard it much. The only [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] I know is in her early 30s.

If you love [name_u]Elliot[/name_u], use it! Being “pretty” and “feminine” aren’t requirements for a name. There are plenty of little girls name [name_f]Ella[/name_f] out there already.

I know someone that just named her little girl [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]… I think it is adorable!

Since [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is one of my favourite boys names, I can’t picture it on a girl, it just sounds wrong to me.
I’m seconding [name_f]Elsa[/name_f], it’s a lovely name and a Disney queen.
What other names do you like? Maybe not love but at least consider?
However, if [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is the name for you, I really would consider using the legitimate french spelling Elliette, since it seems like you really want a girls name for your little one but love the sound of [name_u]Elliott[/name_u].

Meh. I happen to know a very wonderful 6 yr old girl named [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]. Of course, EVERYONE calls her [name_f]Elli[/name_f] and assumes she was named after the character on Scrubs played by [name_f]Sarah[/name_f] Chalke.

I am quite fond of her, and love the name for a boy, but feel that for a girl there are lots of better “[name_f]El[/name_f]” ish options

I love the name [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] for a girl. I say use it!

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is all boy to me, even with the [name_f]El[/name_f]- beginning. The [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] on Scrubs was named so because her patents wanted a son, it was a running joke on the show. If I met a sibset with a traditional male name and then [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], I would assume both were boys. A previous poster gave several good suggestions about other good [name_f]El[/name_f]- names.

I actually like the look of the way [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] is spelled yet it sounds the same as [name_u]Elliott[/name_u]. I like [name_f]Eliette[/name_f] more for a girl now…I’d go for it, but with this spelling.

I can’t stand the name [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] on a girl. It’s a boy’s name with a long history of being a boy’s name. Why not consider another [name_f]El[/name_f] name if you are keen on that sound?

[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_f]Ella[/name_f]
[name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Eloise[/name_f]
[name_f]Elliana[/name_f]

You made a lot of good points. I appreciate your insight. Thank you!

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] belongs to the boys. Pick [name_f]Erin[/name_f], [name_f]Ellen[/name_f], [name_f]Erica[/name_f], anything else - [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] needs to stay a boys name. For my sake more than anyone’s.

[name_u]Elliott[/name_u] is ok on a girl, but I immediately thought of Scrubs too.
[name_f]Eliette[/name_f] is something I’ve never heard of, but it’s nice!
If [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is really the name for you, and your husband loves it, then go for it! If there’s a sliver of doubt in your mind, then keep looking.
Some unisex names I like are [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] and [name_u]Marlowe[/name_u]. I know two little girls whose names these are and they are best friends. We call them Row and [name_m]Mars[/name_m] or Row and [name_m]Mars[/name_m] [name_u]Bar[/name_u]. I think [name_u]Rowan[/name_u] is my favourite unisex name.
Other unisex names I like: [name_u]Scout[/name_u] and [name_u]Morgan[/name_u].
I know a [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] who’s a girl (and her sister is [name_u]Morgan[/name_u] and their dog is [name_m]Griffin[/name_m] nn [name_m]Griff[/name_m] haha), but I think [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] is more of a boys name.
