Baby girl is a week old and nameless

Don’t second guess yourself, your mom doesn’t have to like your style. [name_f]My[/name_f] personal favourites from your list are your initial 3, and also [name_f]Delphine[/name_f], I love all 4 of them, I’d say maybe my favourite is Castalia, sweet and feminine.

[name_f]Sibree[/name_f] and ianthe

I vote for [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] or [name_f]Celestine[/name_f]

[name_f]Love[/name_f] [name_f]Idony[/name_f] for you guys! Sad your mum dislikes :frowning:[name_f][/name_f] [name_f]Idony[/name_f] and [name_f]Ebony[/name_f] are pronounced so differently I don’t see this as a problem. Would she like it any better spelt [name_f]Idonie[/name_f]?

[name_f][/name_f]

With [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] I think

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], [name_f]Athenais[/name_f] and [name_f]Delphine[/name_f] are all so beautiful

I LOVE the name [name_f]Romilly[/name_f]! I am also seeing it here and there, so the fact that it’s not quite as rare could be a bonus for your mom. I can see the middle name being something along the lines of Jean/Eileen/Celine to go with [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f] …

It’s hard to predict the rises and falls of popularity especially for rarer names but we can look at names with a similar sound profile and we see in the US in 2024:

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Solana[/name_f] #691[name_f][/name_f] (409 babies)
[name_f][/name_f][name_m]Sol[/name_m] #819[name_f][/name_f] (336 babies)
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Soleil[/name_f] #824[name_f][/name_f] (332 babies)

[name_f][/name_f]

As well as the more familiar:
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Selena[/name_f] #245
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Serena[/name_f] #332
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Selene[/name_f] #675
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Celina[/name_f] #698
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Celine[/name_f] #227

[name_f][/name_f]

[name_f]Solene[/name_f] is currently outside the top 1000 but there were 116 babies named [name_f]Solene[/name_f] last year. For reference, this is the same number of babies who were named [name_f]Yasmina[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f] (117 babies names [name_f]Venus[/name_f], [name_f]Sedona[/name_f] ans Idalia). So I wouldn’t be surprised at all if [name_f]Solene[/name_f] was used more frequently rather than less as time goes on. The question is by how much.

[name_f][/name_f]

The sound would appeal to parents wanting a sleek, feminine name like [name_f]Selena[/name_f], perhaps with a fantasy vibe, but searching for something less popular. Names ending in the ‘n’ sound are generally less popular than their vowel counterparts. I could see it following [name_f]Soleil[/name_f] and [name_f]Solana[/name_f] and potentially entering the top 1000 but I wouldn’t expect it to ever rise as high as the top 100, or even top 200. It feels a bit too niche, especially with the [name_f]French[/name_f] pronunciation adding some difficulty.

[name_f][/name_f]

Would you still love it if it became a bit more familiar? I doubt it would ever become so popular that you would bump into others at the playground or at school.

Wow, I promise I’m not making anything up! I have four boys and now two girls, so six children total. If it helps, their names are [name_m]Sebastien[/name_m], [name_m]Nikolai[/name_m], [name_m]Torin[/name_m], [name_m]Caius[/name_m], and [name_f]Evadne[/name_f]. I was just focused on making sure my girls’ names felt ‘evenly matched,’ so I didn’t feel the need to bring up the names of my older kids—especially the first two, who I had more than 15 years ago. I’ve definitely become a braver namer since then, and my style has shifted a bit, so I was concentrating more on my latest daughter’s name to give you a better sense of my current style. I also feel like I often get judged by others when they find out I have six kids, and I didn’t want that to become the focus here. I just wanted to share what I’m currently working with and the name choices that feel right for me now.

Accidentally replied twice to the person asking if I was lying about the children I have so I’m deleting this response.

I think I’d be a little sad if it became more popular. I don’t expect [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] to become more popular and so I wouldn’t want one sister to have a popular name and the other to have a more rare name.

just pretty defensive after the last super weird person on here who totally lied like four times so it’s not a you thing, sorry for the misunderstanding!

I get wanting their names to feel relatively equal, especially since the girls are closer in age and will grow up together much more closely than with your older sons.

[name_f][/name_f]

Still, popularity isn’t within our control and pop culture can sometimes throw a curve ball. I know I’d rather choose something that I love and makes me smile that becomes more familiar over a less popular name that I love less. However, if you love all the names equally, and it helps you narrow down your list, then it’s reasonable to rule it out.

[name_f][/name_f]

From a popularity perspective, I’d also have a closer look at out [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] due to [name_f]Romy[/name_f] just entering at #926[name_f][/name_f] and [name_f]Romilly[/name_f] ranking #547[name_f][/name_f] in the UK. Probably [name_f]Athenais[/name_f] too due to [name_f]Athena[/name_f] #90[name_f][/name_f].

[name_f][/name_f]

All that said, I genuinely don’t think Solene’s popularity will ever trouble you. Most realistically, it could bump around the top 1000 for a few years and then slip back under the radar.

Seeing these names of yours, how amazing! (And Sebastian/ Sebastien is my fave boys’ name so even in your “less brave” stage, you picked a banger!), here are some added girl names to the suggestions have already given:

Lysandra
Azura
Verena
Octavia
Anastasia / Anoushka
Magdalene
Contessa
Rafaella

You shouldn’t let people put you off names. [name_f]My[/name_f] mother’s parents told her the spelling of my name would always get pronounced wrong, but actually no one has ever said it wrong. They were so close to not giving me the spelling but my dad pushed my mum to still keep it.

[name_f][/name_f]

But, if you are still set on different names to the three you initially picked out, if you are still set on different names than what you initially picked out, I think your new shortlist is absolutely beautiful and still sits perfectly with [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f]. You’ve got such a strong sense of style already. From your updated list, my favourites with [name_f]Evadne[/name_f] would be [name_f]Tierney[/name_f], [name_f]Celeste[/name_f] and [name_f]Romilly[/name_f]. They have that same mythic, elegant energy without feeling matchy.

[name_f][/name_f]

If you are still searching for names, I’d suggest:

[name_f][/name_f]
    [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Ismay[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Odessa[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • Essilie
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Merryn[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Elowyn[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Carmelle[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Marcelle[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Isolde[/name_f]
  • [name_f][/name_f]
  • [name_f]Xanthe[/name_f]

Thanks [name_f][/name_f], [name_f]Merryn[/name_f] is one I hadn’t considered [name_f][/name_f]!

No worries ! I’m sorry someone came on here playing games rather than looking for actual advice. It takes away from those of us genuinely struggling with what feels like such huge decisions and looking for guidance!

That being said; [name_f]Poppaea[/name_f], Siora, [name_f]Coralie[/name_f], [name_f]Amandine[/name_f], Lyris, [name_f]Adelei[/name_f], Gaiane, Polydora, Sophonie, [name_f]Corisande[/name_f], Beleth, [name_f]Astraea[/name_f], [name_f]Idalia[/name_f], [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f] (this one especially since it sounds like Thessaly), [name_f]Solana[/name_f], [name_f]Oriana[/name_f], Signe/Signy, [name_f]Anneline[/name_f]

[name_f][/name_f]

would be my suggestions

We were in this exact same boat last year, it is stressful! And postpartum is already a lot on its own. One thing to remember is that during postpartum emotions are high and change frequently, and I would suggest not trying to find a new name now, as your judgment might be a little clouded. I would suggest going off of your original list and following your gut. It’s your baby and the name will grow on others in time. What name are you hoping people will say is their favorite? That helped give me some clarity to which one was my favorite

I don’t know how helpful this will be, but I would use whatever name you are most comfortable saying out loud, because (as you know) you’ll say that name countless times a day, and you’ll want to be comfortable doing it.

[name_f][/name_f]

I would pull the trigger as soon as you dare. And honestly, you can change it if you feel the need to, if that helps alleviate some if the pressure.

I hadn’t thought along the lines of which one I hope people will say they like. That’s an interesting way to look at it. I’ll have to think about it. Thank you.

I’ll try saying them all out loud!
