What does the surname sound like?

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is just a beautiful name with a beautiful image that comes with it. And I can almost guarantee that she will never have to be [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] M. or [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] B. in school, whereas I know 4 Emmas under 5 just in my pretty small circle of friends and acquaintances. I like [name_f]Emma[/name_f], but the fact that it is the #2 most common name in the U.S. would definitely sway me toward [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], even if I didn’t love it.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f]! [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is okay, but feels old.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] is too common! [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is unique and fresh.

My vote is for [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f].
[name_f]Emma[/name_f] is nice, but too common…and since brother has a sassy nickname, I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] sounds sassier than [name_f]Emma[/name_f].
Now if [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] were in the fn spot, I would pick that. I love [name_u]Val[/name_u]!

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] goes nicely with [name_m]Tripp[/name_m]. I vote for it because its such a lovely choice.Although I am not thrilled for [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] as a combo it’s still pretty enough. I don’t know why but [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] & [name_m]Tripp[/name_m] sound too close for me. And I find [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] quite old in the first place. Now that i’am thinking it [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] sounds quite nice.

Best wishes & Good luck

This is hard, because try as I might, I just can’t love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as a first name. But…[name_f]Emma[/name_f] is soooooo popular. Honestly, I hear it constantly. I like [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] as an alternative.

[name_f]Emma[/name_f] is too popular…but [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a grandmother. Might you consider [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]?

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is adorable; [name_f]Emma[/name_f] seems a bit spiritless.

I like [name_f]Emma[/name_f] better but if popularity sways you perhaps [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] nn. [name_f]Emma[/name_f]. I love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], just makes me think of English roses and lace.

I like [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], or [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] more than the two combos you suggested, but of the two, I voted for [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], only because I don’t like [name_f]Marie[/name_f] very much.

Congrats on your daughter! With an older brother called [name_m]Tripp[/name_m], I think [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is the best name of the two!

I love [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] [name_f]Marie[/name_f] myself but I see what others mean by it being “old”.

I voted for [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! I think it would be a much better choice than the extremely common/popular/overdone/plain [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (no offense to anyone named [name_f]Emma[/name_f]/has a child named [name_f]Emma[/name_f], that’s just my opinion). I can see how some people may get an “old” vibe from [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but to me, [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] feels fresh and sparkles!

[name_f]Pearl[/name_f]! [name_f]Emma[/name_f] is so pretty, but a bit too common. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is so unexpected & pretty.

If it’s strictly between the two I would pick [name_f]Emma[/name_f].
Although it is popular, it is also very beautiful and simple.
I like [name_f]Pearl[/name_f], but it is not my favourite.

On the other hand, I would much prefer a [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] or a [name_f]Marie[/name_f] to an [name_f]Emma[/name_f].
I love [name_f]Valerie[/name_f], and [name_u]Val[/name_u] is cute and spunky.
[name_f]Marie[/name_f] is a wonderful classic that is hardly heard now a days on young kids.

Good luck!

[name_f]Emma[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] gets my vote.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. We went with [name_f]Emma[/name_f] [name_f]Valerie[/name_f]. My maiden name initials are [name_f]EMA[/name_f] and a long time ago I had the idea to name a daughter [name_f]Emma[/name_f] (before [name_f]Rachel[/name_f] & [name_m]Ross[/name_m]'s daughter was born on Friends). It’s also my great grandma’s name. [name_f]Valerie[/name_f] is my mom’s name. [name_f]Pearl[/name_f] is a fun name we just like, so when it came down to it we figured if she’s our only daughter, we’re happy knowing we went with the “family” name!
