Our [name_u]November[/name_u] baby has arrived and we’ve named her [name_f]Florence[/name_f] [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f].
Thank you to all the NameBerries who’ve opined on name options over the past 4 months.
We decided on [name_f]Florence[/name_f] because (1) my husband really had his heart set on it, (2) I wanted to give him the pride to say ‘I named her’, and (3) because it was on my shortlist anyhow as I love the familiarity yet rarity of the name ([name_f]Canada[/name_f]) and the strong/brave association.
I picked [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] after almost picking [name_f]Odessa[/name_f] because once someone mentioned that she’d have two place names, I couldn’t get that out of my head. I knew I wanted a long O name, and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] is way too common, [name_f]IMO[/name_f]. Excluding [name_f]Odile[/name_f], because we know someone unpleasant with that name, I was left with [name_f]Ophelia[/name_f] - which the more I said it (with 4 syllables: “Oh feel lee ah”) the more it matched.
I am thrilled with our choice - to me it feels strong, brace, ethereal, romantic, and timeless.
