I have been trying to find new ways to honor family members with middle names (if we have a girl… ttc) and I have come up with the following…
What is your favorite variation of the following names? Or do you like the “original” name better? ( by original i mean the one i am taking “inspiration from”)
Deborah: Devora, Devra, Dev
Elizabeth: Lise, Elise, Liv, Eliza
(maiden name): Adiar, Trudy
Mar…: Mary, Maria, Marie
Katherine: Kit
Lewis: Louise, Lou, Eloise
Other names that have come from family names are:::
[name]Deborah[/name]: [name]Devora[/name], [name]Devra[/name], [name]Dev[/name] – In this case I would definitely stick with the original. I feel like these sound so close to the original that you might as well honor [name]Deborah[/name] by using her complete name.
[name]Elizabeth[/name]: [name]Lise[/name], [name]Elise[/name], [name]Liv[/name], [name]Eliza[/name] – I have ALWAYS loved [name]Eliza[/name]. Other variants of [name]Elizabeth[/name] that you might like are [name]Lisbet[/name], [name]Lilibet[/name], [name]Elspeth[/name], and [name]Alisa[/name]. But for the purpose of honoring an [name]Elizabeth[/name], I think [name]Eliza[/name] is a great ay to go because it doesn’t butcher the original name, but simply snips it.
(maiden name): Adiar, [name]Trudy[/name] – I don’t know how to pronounce Adiar (though it looks pretty written out), and to me [name]Trudy[/name] is [name]Gertrude[/name].
[name]Mar[/name]…: [name]Mary[/name], [name]Maria[/name], [name]Marie[/name] – My favorite [name]Mar[/name]- name is [name]Marin[/name]. I went through a [name]Mary[/name]-loving phase, and can see myself falling in love with it again, but currently I like [name]Marie[/name] from your list.
[name]Katherine[/name]: [name]Kit[/name] – I would stick with the original in this case, because people would assume that [name]Kit[/name]'s full name is [name]Katherine[/name] anyway.
[name]Lewis[/name]: [name]Louise[/name], [name]Lou[/name], [name]Eloise[/name] – [name]Love[/name] [name]Lou[/name] for a middle name. For a first name I would go with [name]Louise[/name]/[name]Louisa[/name], because it looks the most like the name you are honoring, though [name]Eloise[/name] is beautiful.
I love [name]Joan[/name]. So refreshing to see it. I think of [name]Joan[/name] of [name]Arc[/name]. So strong and simple yet not plain.
[name]Joan[/name] [name]Marin[/name]
[name]Joan[/name] [name]Lewis[/name] (kind of like using masculine middle)
[name]Elspeth[/name] [name]Marie[/name] or [name]Elspeth[/name] [name]True[/name] (for [name]Trudy[/name])
[name]Marion[/name] [name]Louise[/name]
[name]Devora[/name] [name]Covy[/name]… not sure about this, but I like the sound.
