Baby girl name help - Vivian, Lila, Amelia, Juliet

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]! I am 27 weeks pregnant with a baby girl and am having some trouble deciding on a name. I have been reading nameberry threads for so long and everyone is always so helpful, so I was hoping you can give me some advice on my name dilemma. My husband and I had a long extensive list of baby names we liked and have tried to narrow it down. Right now we are between:

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u], [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]

We love classic and sophisticated baby names that are still very cute on a little girl! We are trying to avoid anything too popular. This is our first child. Please let me know your opinions and open to other name suggestions as well  Thank you so much for your help!!

I love all the names on your list but [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is probably my favourite. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is a lovely name but has become too popular for my liking, what about [name_f]Emilia[/name_f]? I prefer the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] and [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] spellings but love the names!

Some suggestions:

[name_f]Lavinia[/name_f]
[name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Luella[/name_f]
[name_f]Amelie[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Delphine[/name_f]
[name_f]Clementine[/name_f]
[name_f]Edith[/name_f]
[name_u]Everly[/name_u]
[name_f]Esme[/name_f]
[name_u]Eloise[/name_u]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f]
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]
[name_f]Junia[/name_f]
[name_f]Coralie[/name_f]
[name_f]Greta[/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - I can’t help but think of the 80’s british tv show The [name_m]Young[/name_m] Ones ([name_u]Vivian[/name_u] [spelt [name_u]Vyvyan[/name_u]] was the ‘punk’ looking male) but this association certainly wouldn’t be common among younger people (especially kiddos) …I probably only think of The [name_m]Young[/name_m] Ones because I grew up watching it. And while it’s not my personal style, I do still think it’s usable.

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] - Are you pronouncing this [name_u]LEE[/name_u]-la or LIE-la? I really like it either way, although I’m not convinced it would age well. I suppose because I’ve never met an adult [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (of either pronunciation) before.

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - My favourite of your options. It fits all your criteria of classic, sophisticated and not overly popular perfectly. And it’s an added bonus that it works on all ages, from baby to teen to old lady.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - I would say it is classic and sophisticated, however it is very popular right now (No. 2 on NB, no. 12 in the US, no. 1 in [name_f]England[/name_f] and no. 5 in Australia, according to NB) If the popularity isn’t a deal breaker for you, it’s a lovely option.

My pick would be [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], closely followed by [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]

I second PP’s suggestions of [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] and [name_f]Esme[/name_f]

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] or [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] are both lovely.

I love [name_f]Lila[/name_f] and it was almost my daughter’s name (although since then I have heard it cropping up quite a few places, not enough that I would cross it off the list though).

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is also beautiful, so is [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. Have you considered [name_f]Vera[/name_f]?

I like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], but I prefer the [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] spelling. [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is pretty popular, and one of its nicknames [name_f]Mia[/name_f] (if that’s the nickname you wanted to use) is even more popular, so I personally would avoid it. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is nice, and I do prefer that spelling. I also really like the potential for the nickname [name_u]Jet[/name_u]. I think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] is my favorite name from your list though. If you’re concerned about it aging well, the only [name_f]Lila[/name_f] I was aware of for a long time was [name_f]Lila[/name_f] Quartermaine, so I don’t have an image of it just being a young kid’s name at all. I think it would age beautifully. It’s short and sweet, and pretty nickname-resistant.

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] (95), [name_f]Lila[/name_f] (199), [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] (240), and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (12) all fit the classic and sophisticated category, but [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] are fairly popular. [name_f]Lilah[/name_f] seems more classic to me and it’s at 340 for 2015 in the US. [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is my favorite from your list.

Some other possibilities with popularity:

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f] (802)
[name_f]Camille[/name_f] (246)
[name_f]Cecily[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Celia[/name_f] (858)
[name_f]Claudia[/name_f] (749)
[name_f]Cordelia[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Delia[/name_f] (987)
[name_f]Elodie[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f] (360)
[name_f]Helena[/name_f] (534)
[name_f]Louisa[/name_f] (908)
[name_f]Lucinda[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Millicent[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Miranda[/name_f] (278)
[name_f]Muriel[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Philippa[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Priscilla[/name_f] (502)
[name_f]Sybil[/name_f] (lower than 1000)
[name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (484)
[name_f]Thalia[/name_f] (792)
[name_f]Willa[/name_f] (481)

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - this is a vintage name that is being revived. It has never been as popular as it is now. Style-wise, it has a lot in common with current faves like [name_f]Eve[/name_f], [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f].

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] - this is a trendy modern name that fits with names like [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f], [name_f]Ella[/name_f] and [name_f]Isla[/name_f]. [name_f]Lily[/name_f], not [name_f]Lila[/name_f], is a classic name.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - for a few centuries it was a traditional name, then it faded away. Now it’s been revived. It’s sweet and friendly, like [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] and [name_f]Violet[/name_f].

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - this name is frilly and princess-y, like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. It has never been as popular as it is today. [name_f]Julia[/name_f], not [name_f]Juliet[/name_f], is the true classic.

I think [name_f]Lila[/name_f] would be a good name for you. Sophisticated names are usually the simplest ones. [name_f]Lila[/name_f] feels fresh.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is my favorite from your list, but all of your choices are lovely.

[name_f]Laelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Felicity[/name_f]
[name_f]Alethea[/name_f]
[name_f]Alethia[/name_f]
[name_f]Emilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]

I love love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]!!
[name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] [name_f]Juliet[/name_f]??
I also like [name_f]Lila[/name_f], but prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] over [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] looks dated imo.
Suggestions:
[name_f]Lilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Liana[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f]
[name_f]Nova[/name_f]
[name_f]Veda[/name_f]
[name_f]Vera[/name_f]
[name_f]Mia[/name_f]
[name_f]Sienna[/name_f]
[name_f]Giselle[/name_f]
[name_f]Freya[/name_f]
[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f]Meline[/name_f]
[name_f]Tessa[/name_f]

But even though it’s super popular I love [name_f]Amelia[/name_f]!

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] is beautiful and fits with all the names you seem to love.

I love and adore all 4 of these names!

[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] - I do prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] personally, but I am a fan of [name_m]French[/name_m] spellings (since I’m Canadian it might make more sense here versus the US & other countries). But [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f]/[name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is one of my favourite names. Vintage and currently in style, but not insanely popular.

[name_f]Lila[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this name. I think it’s cute and ages well. I’m a fan of the [name_f]Lila[/name_f]/[name_f]Lula[/name_f]/[name_f]Luna[/name_f]/[name_f]Lilah[/name_f] group of names.

[name_f]Amelia[/name_f] - I adore this name, but I’ve vetoed it for my own baby because it has become very very popular, so I’d avoid it if you don’t want a “too popular” name.

[name_f]Juliet[/name_f] - Classic, beautiful, and timeless name. I feel like it’s a very solid choice.

Good luck!!!
