We are due in 8 weeks with our first child; a little baby girl =]
We have gone back & forth with names since we found out we were pregnant. Everything that really jumps out at me, the husband is not crazy about and vise versa. We have agreed on the middle name, [name]Georges[/name], which is a family name, so I guess that’s a start!
My husband really likes the name [name]Julia[/name], & I wasn’t crazy about it until I found a Italian variation of the spelling, [name]Giulia[/name].
Thoughts on if this will make things difficult on my child. . .I think it’s much prettier spelled like this & I really have a thing for the G names. I’d really love to hear some opinions on this!
This would make her [name]Giulia[/name] [name]Georges[/name] [name]Ryder[/name].
I adore Italian spellings and Italian names, but I do think it’d be a lot harder growing up [name]Giulia[/name] [name]Georges[/name] [name]Ryder[/name] as opposed to [name]Julia[/name] [name]Georges[/name] [name]Ryder[/name]. I adore the name, either spelling, but I think [name]Julia[/name] would be a bit easier for your daughter. I am a huge name nerd and I usually take into consideration spellings and such, but when someone tells me that they are [name]Julia[/name] when I have to take their name down at work, I don’t even think twice–just spell it [name]Julia[/name]. [name]Julia[/name] isn’t like [name]Haley[/name], that has a million and one common spellings, so I think most people would just assume [name]Julia[/name]. It’s kind of sad because I love the Italian [name]Giulia[/name]/[name]Giuliana[/name]/etc. but I just don’t think they’re that usable in [name]America[/name], unless you have a very heavy Italian background… even then, I don’t think it’s the best, sorry.
[name]Even[/name] though I love Italian names I think [name]Julia[/name] looks more feminine and might be the better choice considering her mn is so masculine (no offense) plus [name]Julia[/name] should eliminate any spelling/prn issues.
If your last name or the mn was more Italian, I think the Guilia spelling would be okay, but since [name]Georges[/name] and [name]Ryder[/name] both seem very English (or maybe [name]Georges[/name] is French), I think it would create problems as noted above to have Guilia instead of [name]Julia[/name]. Plus, I love [name]Julia[/name] [name]Ryder[/name] as it sounds very Brideshead Revisited (main character was [name]Charles[/name] [name]Ryder[/name] and had an attraction to [name]Sebastian[/name]'s sister [name]Julia[/name]).
My toddler is in a music class with another toddler named [name]Giulia[/name]–I live in an area of the US where a lot of people have Italian heritage, though. (I did imagine her as “[name]Julia[/name]” until I saw her mom write the name on a signup sheet.)
