My husband and I are expecting our second baby girl. We have literally been discussing baby girl names for 3 months. We are so stuck!
We know her middle name will be [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. Her older sister’s name is three syllables and begins with an L. We originally loved the name [name_f]Rebekah[/name_f], but due to family issues with that name, we just can’t use it.
Here are our top contenders:
**[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] “[name_f]Libby[/name_f]” [name_f]Joy[/name_f] - probably our favorite just because we like [name_f]Libby[/name_f]. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] feels like a nickname, however. Not sold on [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
**[name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
**[name_u]Shelby[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
**[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
I love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f], it’s on my own list! [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is a great nickname. If you aren’t sold on [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f] could also be a nickname for [name_f]Liberty[/name_f] or [name_f]Lisbeth[/name_f]!
Katherine [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is also lovely! [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] has so many great nickname options and is a lovely classic.
Meredith [name_f]Joy[/name_f] and [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] are sweet but I don’t like them as much as the other two.
This is a cute name ! [name_f]Libby[/name_f] does not necessarily have to be a nickname, it can be used as a given first name [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] just sounds so adorable I hope this helped
Thank you for your thoughts and suggestions! I like [name_f]Lydia[/name_f], but my husband does not. His favorite is definitely [name_f]Libby[/name_f]! I like it very much as well. I’m just hung up on whether it ages well and whether she would need/wish for a formal name as she gets older.
What are your thoughts in regards to [name_f]Libby[/name_f] as a stand alone name?
Meredith is one of my favorite names ever! [name_f]My[/name_f] husband thinks it would seem weird to call a baby [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]. He says he can only picture it on an older person. It’s funny how everyone has their thoughts on names! Thank you!
My sister’s name is [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] - it is such a great name! [name_f]Mere[/name_f] is her nickname. It fit her as a baby and now as an adult so I wouldn’t worry about that! I can’t hardly believe it ranked #579 in 2019. [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] would be my choice! MJ would be cute nn.
As far as [name_f]Libby[/name_f], I do feel it is more of a nickname. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is so classic and with nn [name_f]Libby[/name_f] it would be very fresh sounding today.
Elizabeth [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is beautiful but if you don’t love it, it’s not the one.
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is another one I like
Elizabeth and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] are on my own list, so my opinion is naturally biased towards these. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is very cute, as is e.g. [name_f]Katie[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]!
Personally I like more ‘formal’ names that allow for nicknames, but if your heart is really set on [name_f]Libby[/name_f] go for it! Nobody bats an eye at a [name_f]Rosie[/name_f], [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], [name_u]Alfie[/name_u], etc. I’ve unfortunately never cared for [name_u]Shelby[/name_u], and [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] is a lovely name but I always associate it with the [name_u]Grey[/name_u]’s Anatomy character.
A couple of suggestions:
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] (sounds a bit like [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Isabel[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Mina[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Carolyn[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] ([name_f]Carly[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Dorothy[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] ([name_f]Dottie[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Sadie[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] ([name_f]Tilly[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]?)
[name_f]Claribel[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]
I really love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] & [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] is also pretty but I just think there is something special about [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f] & [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. Especially [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] [name_f]Joy[/name_f]. [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] is such an underused classic really pretty and unexpected I also like the nickname [name_f]Merry[/name_f].
Elizabeth [name_f]Joy[/name_f] or [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] [name_f]Joy[/name_f].
I don’t like [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] it sounds like a dogs name sorry.
I adore [name_u]Meredith[/name_u]! [name_f]Merry[/name_f] is a lovely nickname, or perhaps [name_u]Remy[/name_u]? Also think [name_f]Libby[/name_f] makes a fine name all by itself.
Libby is just so spunky & darling! [name_f]Every[/name_f] time I hear the name, which isn’t often, it just makes me smile. As a grown adult, I would absolutely love to have [name_f]Libby[/name_f] as my own name. You mentioned older sister’s name begins with an L. How does it sound with [name_f]Libby[/name_f]? Matching initials can sometimes sound lovely together, complimenting one another well, or can be a tongue twister when said together & aloud. I would use [name_f]Libby[/name_f] as a stand alone name but I also love [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] second choice for you would be [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. [name_u]Meredith[/name_u] & [name_u]Shelby[/name_u] seem a bit dated.
