I love both the names [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] (nickname [name_f]Vivi[/name_f]). My husband disliked [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] at first, but seems to be really coming around to it! It is now back on our name possibilities. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] both have the V sound which I love. Any thoughts on which you all prefer? Any good nicknames for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]? I love the nickname [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] if we went with [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. We want to avoid anything too popular.
Other names we have/are considering so you get a sense of our taste are: [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Amelia[/name_f], [name_f]Juliette[/name_f], [name_f]Georgia[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f], and then also [name_u]Parker[/name_u] although this is rather different from the rest of the names on our list! Thanks for your input!
I prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. I think it is cute and not too common. I do not think you have to have a nicknamd for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. Its perfectly fine on its own! And over time if you have a [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] you may call her nicknames and pet names that come naturally to you. Like [name_f]Cece[/name_f] or Silly [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Liv[/name_f] or [name_f]Livvy[/name_f].
Another vote for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] over here! Both names are beautiful though.
Maybe you could check popularity and recent popularity increase in your area? Where I live [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is more popular and rising more quickly than [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (it’s ‘trendy’) but this might not be an issue for you.
[name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is definitely my favourite. I think it’s fun, and energetic, but also beautiful, sophisticated, and a bit magical. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] doesn’t have the same lightness or personality to me. I don’t really think [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] needs a nickname, but Vie (Vee) or even [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] could still work. But it might be better if it develops naturally and isn’t decided beforehand.
I love [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]! One of my absolute favorites. I like [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] too, but since it has had a recent surge in popularity, [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] just feels so much more fresh to me. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is such a sweet name.
For reference, in 2015, [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] was #95 on the Social Security lists, and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] has not been in the top 1000 ([name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] was #484). So [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] is definitely more unique, but still has a wonderfully classic feel.
For [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f], I think nicknames could be “Vie/[name_f]Vi[/name_f]” (pronounced like Vee), or I think you could still use [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] because it’s close enough to the ending. You could also call her “S” (pronounced “ess” like the letter), or “[name_f]Essie[/name_f].” You could also call her Syl but I’m not a big fan of that, but “Silly” could be a cute term of endearment for her.
I really like [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f]. It sounds very sweet to me. There’s a [name_m]French[/name_m] ballerina named [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] [name_m]Guillem[/name_m] and I associate it with her. [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] is also very pretty, though I do slightly prefer [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f].
I looked at the [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_m]Wales[/name_m] data and was surprised to find that here [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] (ranked at 377) is now more popular than [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] (649). And there I was thinking [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] was pretty much unknown in this country.
I way prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] to [name_u]Vivian[/name_u], I don’t know why but [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] has never appealed to me - maybe it’s too harsh to my ear.
Other names I like from your list are [name_f]Lila[/name_f], [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] (though I prefer the [name_f]Emilia[/name_f] spelling).
Your style seems kind of vintagey so maybe you’d like the [name_f]Nell[/name_f] nn for [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]?
Other names you might like:
[name_f]Viola[/name_f]
[name_f]Violette[/name_f]
[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Adeline[/name_f]
[name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]/[name_f]Cecily[/name_f]
[name_u]Evelyn[/name_u]
[name_f]Isadora[/name_f]
I really like both names and I think I would personally choose [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] over [name_u]Vivian[/name_u]. If you want to avoid anything too popular [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] and [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] are used quite a bit more often than [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] and [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f]. [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] has been steadily increasing in usage over the last decade but it’s still not in the Top 1000 in the US as of the 2015 data, although I do think it’s trending in certain areas.
As far as nicknames, I think if you wanted to use [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] too you could. If I heard someone call a little girl [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] and then found out her real name was [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] or [name_f]Sylvia[/name_f] I wouldn’t even think twice about it.
love [name_u]Vivian[/name_u] with [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] for nickname!
That is so pretty and [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is so cute!!
[name_f]Vivi[/name_f] doesn’t really work for [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] because that’s more like “veevee”
I prefer [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] in this case, but [name_f]Vivienne[/name_f] would be my favourite if it was an option. I think [name_f]Vivi[/name_f] is sweet and [name_f]Sylvie[/name_f] could work in that way, but I don’t think it needs a nickname.
From your list I love [name_f]Juliet[/name_f] ([name_f]Juliette[/name_f] is okay) and [name_f]Penelope[/name_f]. You have some great options here!
