Trying to come up with a baby girl name that DH and I can both agree on. I like classic names like [name]Penelope[/name], [name]Lucy[/name], and [name]Amelia[/name] but he likes more boyish names like [name]Hayden[/name], [name]Cayden[/name], [name]Peyton[/name], [name]Ricki[/name], [name]Maxi[/name], etc. We don’t want a name that is unheard of, but we don’t want a top 10 name either. We want the name to have family significance. My maternal grandmother is [name]Charlotte[/name] and his maternal grandmother is [name]Miriam[/name]. I would love to use [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] but [name]Charlotte[/name] is at the top of the popularity charts. Maybe I am not thinking of some names that we could possibly agree on.
I’m not usually a [name]Charlotte[/name] person but I would use it if it was to honour my grandmother. You have a valid reason to use it, popularity be damned. [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] is beautiful btw… as is [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name].
Another pair that could be similar to [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]: [name]Charlize[/name] [name]Marion[/name].
I think [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] is the perfect balance! It has meaning and he can always call her “[name]Charly[/name]” if he likes the more boyish names.
I like tinabina’s suggestion. I’d look for a classic name that has a nickname option to suit dad.
[name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Mattie[/name]
[name]Josephine[/name] nn [name]Joey[/name] or [name]Jo[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] nn [name]Georgie[/name]
[name]Antonia[/name] nn [name]Toni[/name] or [name]Andy[/name]
etc…
Totally agree with this. [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] is gorgeous and seems perfect for your situation. It honors family and with [name]Charlotte[/name], you get your classic name and he gets [name]Charlie[/name] as a boyish nickname.
As someone who’s worked with kids and in schools for years, I can tell you that popularity isn’t really that big a deal. If a name is in the top 10, that doesn’t mean that there will be multiple kids in one class with that name. It means that there will likely be one kid in a grade with that name. Also, it really comes down to what’s popular in your area, not what’s popular nationally. As for [name]Charlotte[/name]'s popularity, when you look at the percentages, only .33% of babies were named [name]Charlotte[/name] last year. That’s less then 1%, so really, it’s not as common as the rankings make it look. [name]Just[/name] something to think about.
I love [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] as well, although if you’re concerned about popularity, what about [name]Caroline[/name] instead of [name]Charlotte[/name]? They’re both feminine versions of [name]Charles[/name], but [name]Caroline[/name] is a little less popular.
And I agree that a classic name with a boyish nickname would give you two the best of both worlds!
Some more to consider:
[name]Alexandra[/name] or [name]Alexa[/name] nn [name]Alex[/name]
[name]Andrea[/name] nn [name]Andy[/name]
[name]Nicole[/name]/[name]Nicola[/name]/[name]Nicolette[/name] nn [name]Nick[/name]
[name]Samantha[/name] nn [name]Sam[/name]
[name]Miranda[/name] nn [name]Randy[/name]
[name]Veronica[/name] nn [name]Ronnie[/name]
[name]Erica[/name] nn [name]Ricki[/name]
[name]Maxine[/name] nn [name]Max[/name] (I wouldn’t use [name]Maxi[/name] because of the teasing potential)
I was going to suggest [name]Miranda[/name], and I see the pp already has. I love the literary feel and the feminine vibe, but it has nicknames like [name]Randy[/name], [name]Randa[/name], and [name]Andy[/name]. Or you could use [name]Miri[/name] as a nickname, much like [name]Miriam[/name].
I love [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name]! If you choose not to go with this, then how about:
[name]Caroline[/name]
[name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Mirabelle[/name]
[name]Marielle[/name]
[name]Mira[/name]
[name]Mara[/name]
[name]Margaret[/name]
I love [name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] is gorgeous. [name]Miriam[/name] also has a lot of great nicknames - [name]Miri[/name], [name]Mimi[/name], [name]Mira[/name], [name]Mia[/name], or [name]Mary[/name].
[name]Charlize[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] is also wonderful. If your husband likes boyish names, she could go by [name]Arley[/name], [name]Charli[/name] or [name]Char[/name] (pronounced like [name]Shar[/name]).
We are now leaning toward [name]Georgia[/name], but have no idea how to incorporate a family name as the middle name. I am not crazy about how [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] sound together. In my opinion, [name]Georgia[/name] sounds better with middle names that are short and sweet ([name]Mae[/name], [name]Kay[/name], [name]Kate[/name], [name]Rose[/name], [name]Clare[/name], etc.) What do you think we can do to incorporate these names if possible. We are lost!!
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Kate[/name] is adorable! I also like [name]Mae[/name] and [name]Clare[/name] quite a bit.
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Hope[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Paige[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Anne[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Grace[/name] (could also get nn [name]Gigi[/name])
I think [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] work well. But what about using [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Caroline[/name], [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mary[/name], or [name]Georgia[/name] [name]May[/name] instead?
I second [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name]. [name]May[/name]/[name]Mae[/name] is a derivative of [name]Mary[/name] which is the English language version of [name]Miriam[/name].
I VOTE [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Mae[/name]!!!
I think [name]Charlotte[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name] are both great names! I actually love [name]Miriam[/name] - it was the name of one of my favourite dolls as a child and I always adored it! I think its so classically beautiful and unusual without being “out there”. If I were you, I would personally go with [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - the nicknames [name]Miri[/name] and [name]Mimi[/name] could be very sweet
As for [name]Charlotte[/name], I think that works well as a first name too - my niece’s name is [name]Lottie[/name] which I think is a cute nn for [name]Charlotte[/name].
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] or [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mae[/name] are both great; [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] sounds a bit more flat-footed. But I think choosing a middle name with family significance will hold up better over time than any more conventional idea of “flow.”
I love [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Miriam[/name].
Are you in the US? [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] combines two place names and [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mae[/name] is very southern sounding - which may not be a problem for you.
[name]How[/name] about
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Wren[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Eve[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Wynn[/name]
[name]Georgia[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
Thanks for all the suggestions! We love [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mae[/name]/[name]May[/name] and [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Clare[/name]! Decisions, decisions!
Also thinking about [name]Georgia[/name] [name]Mary[/name]
[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]?
[name]Mirabelle[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name]?
Boyish/Classic- [name]Frances[/name], [name]Henrietta[/name], [name]Harriet[/name], [name]Josephine[/name], ect all have built in boyish nicknames.
Also [name]Charlotte[/name] [name]Miriam[/name] would make a pretty double middle if you don’t want either name in the first name spot.
