Baby girl- Noa or Maya

Please help!! I prefer [name_f]Noa[/name_f] when written and love that it is a bit more different, however also concerned about gender confusion when verbally said and misspellings especially how common boy [name_m]Noah[/name_m] is. Please let me know which name you prefer! Thank you!

If you’re in a country where [name_f]Noa[/name_f] isn’t used a lot as a girls name, I do think people would assume [name_m]Noah[/name_m] most of the time; I don’t think that’s necessarily a problem, but if it’s something you wouldn’t to clarify all the time, [name_f]Maya[/name_f] would be the safer choice. However, you probably would still need to clarify the pronunciation or spelling, so there’s that.

I do prefer [name_f]Noa[/name_f], personally, but I think the way we live with the name should absolutely factor into the decision rather than just how much we love it. Good luck

This exactly.

I prefer [name_f]Maya[/name_f] - bright, warm and sweet, but with a pleasing sharpness too.

Still, [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is charming and cool too - sort of breezy and summery - if it’s what you like best, I’d use that

I prefer [name_f]Maya[/name_f], for exactly the reason you pointed out–confusion with the male name [name_m]Noah[/name_m].

Both are lovely!

I prefer [name_f]Maya[/name_f] I just like the overall bright sound of this name. For me [name_f]Maya[/name_f] sounds beachy, summery and warm. She has imagery surrounding European coastal towns, white [name_m]Sandy[/name_m] beaches and bright blue sea essentially paradise which is apt as the name has the meaning water along with some stating the name means dream. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] is joyous!

[name_f]Noa[/name_f] is lovely a popular name (both are popular amongst Jewish Israelis) and for me as someone with Jewish/Israeli family instantly recognisable but I think for others maybe a bit trippy due to the popularity of [name_m]Noah[/name_m]. However I live in [name_f]England[/name_f] in an area with no Jewish/Israeli community (my mum is an anomaly where I live) yet have heard [name_f]Noa[/name_f]. This makes me think that [name_f]Noa[/name_f] is becoming fashionable which makes me think she could work. [name_f]Noa[/name_f] feels stylish, streamlined and cool.

I think either works and just choose your favourite

I love [name_f]Noa[/name_f]! If my ten year old son had been a girl, his name were probably [name_f]Noa[/name_f] (or Luise).

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] is also very lovely.

Definitely [name_f]Maya[/name_f]! I agree that the gender confusion could potentially be an issue.

[name_f]Noa[/name_f]! I’m not very good at any real reasonings when it comes to liking names, I just think it’s very cool :sunglasses:

I like [name_f]Maya[/name_f]!

They are both very pretty names. [name_f]Noa[/name_f] ,I feel is becoming much more common for a girl so I would not worry about the spelling at all. You can’t go wrong either way.

[name_f]Maya[/name_f]

Maya is my favorite! I adore M names. I think Maya sounds joyful and sweet.
Despite my preference, I can easily appreciate Noa’s beauty and gentle sound. Noa is a popular choice in my country for girls. In fact, as popular as Noah is for boys! Where I live, I think everyone would assume Noa is a girl and Noah is a boy. However, that may not be the case where you live. Anyway, I believe it will be simple to explain that her name is Noa, like Noah without the H. If you add the meaning of the name or the reason you chose Noa, people will certainly understand it. There are so many gender neutral names and so many names with multiple spellings that I can’t find any strong reason for you to stop considering Noa for a girl.
For example, Noah Cyrus has the traditional male spelling but she still wears it well!

[name_f]Maya[/name_f] since I’m not crazy about [name_m]Noah[/name_m] on a boy which makes me feel equally the same about [name_f]Noa[/name_f] on a girl however I don’t mind gender neutral names as a whole it’s just that I’m not crazy about Noah’s popularity which could make it even more confusing on a girl.
