Baby Girls Name

We are currently trying to decide on a name for our daughter.

We were set on naming her [name_u]Elliott[/name_u] but our families had some opinions about the name saying she would get picked on and that its a boys name. I explained that she can go by [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] or [name_f]Elle[/name_f] if she wants to.

So we decided that we might name her [name_u]Mika[/name_u] because this is a Japanese name and I am 1/2 Japanese. ([name_f]Ellie[/name_f] can also be a Japanese name)

But now we are torn between the two names… would appreciate opinions from strangers since I feel that maybe our friends wont tell us how they really feel.

I quite like [name_u]Mika[/name_u]. I usually now it as a boys’ name, however, as you say, in Japanese it’s a female name and the -a ending does give it a feminine sound that will make most people who haven’t encountered the name before, automatically think “girl”.

I have to say I much much prefer it to [name_u]Elliott[/name_u], which is strictly male in my book. There are so many other ways to get to [name_f]Ellie[/name_f], I don’t think it’s worth the years of being confused as a boy, being put in the wrong team, on the wrong list, being adressed as Mr. in letters.
Especially if she decided to cut her hair short or if she doesn’t wear dresses all of the time, she’d be confused with a boy a lot, and even the most tom-boyish girls I know hate that.

I prefer [name_u]Mika[/name_u], only because it sounds more feminine to me. I don’t think she would get teased for having a boy name, but she probably would be confused for a boy a lot, and personally I just like for names to be clear about gender. Good luck!

[name_u]Mika[/name_u]. It’s prettier, less common, and honors your heritage.

[name_u]Mika[/name_u] is beautiful. It honours your Japanese roots, works in English, and is really pretty.

[name_u]Elliot[/name_u] on a girl seems like you’re trying too hard. Not sure how to explain it. [name_m]Trust[/name_m] me, having your colleagues think you’re a man is not an advantage - it’s just awkward. And my name isn’t even as male as [name_u]Elliot[/name_u]!

I actually love both [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] ‘[name_f]Ellie[/name_f]’ and [name_u]Mika[/name_u] for a girl or [name_u]Eliot[/name_u] and [name_u]Micah[/name_u] for a boy and they come up in conversations here, great names. I would go with [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] [name_u]Mika[/name_u] and call her [name_f]Ellie[/name_f] and just ignore people saying she will get picked on, Both are solidly unisex as far as I can tell, yes [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] is often used for boys but if you look at trends it is shifting Female, you wouldn’t be giving a male name to a girl really at this point to be specific. People really shouldn’t say things about other peoples name choices that know them and aren’t asked, that’s one nice thing about asking strangers, you can get a wider range of people who know children with these names and who don’t know you so have nonpersonalmstake in it. Congrats on baby girl and I hope you can choose a name that’s right for her but I think you’re pretty set already if I read your post right. [name_f]ELLIE[/name_f] is a very sweet name.
