Baby is due now! Help with names!

My husband and I have been stuck on names for this baby. We recently came across the names [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f]. I just don’t know which I like better and what way to pronounce them would be best. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] could be [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line (like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]) or [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-lean (which I think is the [name_m]French[/name_m] pronunciation and how Europeans would pronounce it). [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] is [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-lyn which I think is pretty self explanatory. I’m also worried that [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] could be thought of as made up or trendy because I think [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is the original form of the name. We would probably call her [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] as a nickname. What do you all think of the name?

We are thinking middle name claire.

Our other choice is [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f].

Thank you!

[name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] is beautiful! That would be my choice over [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]! And I would pronounce it with the -leen ending.

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] best of the three. [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] is very trendy sounding and while I like [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], I think it’s a bit tired. I like both the -line and -leen pronunciations about equally; I would probably automatically say -leen, but -line is just as valid and a little more straightforward in terms of spelling and pronunciation.

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], both pronunciations.

[name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] has that trendy feel that comes from adding “lyn” to traditional names. I like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] but [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] better.

There is no pattern with “line” names, I suppose. It’s funny how [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], [name_f]Caroline[/name_f], and the European [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] are all spelled with the same ending, yet pronounced differently. For that reason, I think you’re free to pick the pronunciation you like best. I like “leen” or “line”.

Thank you for all the replies. I’ve really been having such a hard time naming this baby! I’m just indecisive and start to question a name after a while. All the help is appreciated. It’s nice to get other people’s input.

[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would be beautiful! I would say -leen over -line but both are legitimate pronunciations. [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] does look trendy to me (I’m not really a fan of -lyn endings) but I do like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelief[/name_f]/Madelieve. [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] also looks trendy to me, and I would probably assume it was a ‘smoosh’ name (? Maybe not) but I do think it’s pretty, with a lovely sound.

So I’d probably go for [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], but both [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] are pretty too

I love [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] pronounced [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-lean. It is lovely and I would call her by her full name!

I prefer [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] than [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]. The -lyn endings sound trendy to me, no matter what name is. For the -line ending, I think the pronunciation is up to you. [name_m]Just[/name_m] decide how you want your daughter to pronounce it and tell people too. “Her name is [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen” explains it all. I personally prefer the [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-leen pronunciation.

I imagine you came across [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] in a recent baby announcement.

The only 2 newborn babies born in [name_u]November[/name_u] to families I personally I know are both named [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] and called [name_f]Emmy[/name_f]. One of the families was [name_m]French[/name_m] Canadian and they pronounce it “emlin”, which makes me cringe. Perhaps we’ve reached peak [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].

I recommend [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f].

I really like [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f] over [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f]. I feel like most names should have at least one letter that dips down in it, such as a y, g, j, q, etc.

I love [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f]! Maybe you could spell it [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] but pronounce it [name_f]Emmalyn[/name_f]?

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] (emma-line) best. I know an [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]-called-[name_f]Emmy[/name_f], she loves her name, and the classic spelling and pronunciation, and that it’s not as common as the other spellings but still recognizable as a name, and with a cute nickname that everyone can pronounce.

I definitely prefer [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f], it’s such a lovely name. The -line looks more stylish to my eye, and when it comes down to it, pronunciation is, for the most part, a one time correction which is definitely worth it [name_f]IMO[/name_f].

I prefer [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] over emmelyn.
[name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or madalyn [name_f]Claire[/name_f] are both so pretty but I think I slightly prefer [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] over [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f].
Good luck!

[name_f]Emmalene[/name_f], Emmilene, Emmelene, all of these three I would pronounce leen.

[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] I really like, with the -leen ending!
It sounds cute yet elegant and I like it more than [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]
[name_f]Em[/name_f]- names are getting popular and I love it!
I do really like [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (-line ending), have you thought about it?
[name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] is rarer and she could have the cute nickname [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] though!

I saw [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] online when I was looking at names. It was on a “antique” name list. I do not know anyone with the name. It’s actually quite rare I think, not even above 500 on the U.S. list. I was just worried people wouldn’t know how to pronounce it, or may think it is weird.

I like [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] better, either pronunciation.
