Baby is one week old - not sure about name!

We had a little girl one week ago. We had a few girls names picked out (I have made previous posts about them on the baby names forum), but none have jumped out as being quite 100% right…

We have mostly settled on [name]Octavia[/name]. But the other name we love is [name]Winter[/name]. Is it too long and cumbersome to give her this name: [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Winter[/name] [name]Jane[/name] Family-Name (the last name is a four syllable hyphenated name)? Are we being annoyingly indecisive by sticking [name]Winter[/name] it in there, or does it flow well? [name]Octavia[/name] is already kind of a mouthful…
Thoughts? Much appreciated! I am going crazy. She needs a name!

IMHO, if [name]Winter[/name] doesn’t have any special meaning to you, I would leave it out all together. [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a beautiful name, [name]Winter[/name] sounds like an extra throw in that interferes with the perfect flow you have going.

Oh AND…congratulations!!!

Normally, I love using two middle names, and [name]Winter[/name] is a lovely one. But given the sheer number of syllables that would entail with your last name, I would go with [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. With you surname, it’ll already been 9 syllables without [name]Winter[/name].

I agree with the others that [name]Octavia[/name] Winder [name]Jane[/name] with a hyphenated last name is a bit of a mouthful - I think [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is a great name!

Does anyone prefer [name]Winter[/name] over [name]Octavia[/name]? We have been calling her [name]Winter[/name] [name]Baby[/name] since we found out I was pregnant, as a way of explaining to our toddler son when she would arrive, in winter time…
So we are leaning towards [name]Octavia[/name], but still not sure about letting go of [name]Winter[/name].
I think you guys are right about the three names being too much with our last name. Didn’t want to admit it ; )

I actually prefer [name]Winter[/name] myself. I like [name]Octavia[/name], but [name]Winter[/name] is one of my big name crushes. I’d love to be able to use it myself, but it doesn’t go with my surname.

This.

Congratulations on your new baby!

EDIT: Looks like I missed your reply! I think Winter and Octavia are both unique names and both pretty in their own way. Personally, I’m the kind of person who would feel like I ALWAYS had to do things connected with that season if my name were Winter (Or Autumn or Summer for that matter). I wouldn’t want to be a Winter whose favorite season ended up being fall, or who grew up and desperately dreamed of having a beach wedding. That’s just me, but I would choose Octavia because I would feel like that gave her more space to be herself. You can still call her Winter as a pet name in your family if you want. Or you could drop the Jane and go with Octavia Winter Family-Name (though I like the flow of Octavia Jane better, Winter maybe has more meaning for you and that could make it the better choice).

Are you very attached to [name]Jane[/name]?
[name]Just[/name] [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Winter[/name] would be wonderful.

I also think [name]Octavia[/name] and [name]Winter[/name] would make nice names for sisters, so you could save [name]Winter[/name] for a potential future girl

Thanks for the congratulations- she’s awesome!

Any more opinions on [name]Winter[/name] versus [name]Octavia[/name]?? I don’t feel terribly worried about the seasonal association “issue” but am concerned about the day-to-day slacker pronunciation of [name]Winter[/name] as “Winner”… I do love the nickname [name]Winnie[/name] though.

dearest - I think we are done with babies now… but [name]Octavia[/name] and [name]Winter[/name] would be lovely sibling names! I really want [name]Jane[/name] in there, in honour of [name]Jane[/name] Goodall.

I like [name]Winter[/name] more than [name]Octavia[/name] myself  But I agree with not using both, too long. I think either [name]Winter[/name] [name]Jane[/name] or [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Jane[/name] are lovely names, but yeah, personally prefer [name]Winter[/name]. i wanted to use [name]Winter[/name] but we have a niece on both sides called [name]Summer[/name]! lol
Congratulations

I prefer [name]Winter[/name] and love [name]Winter[/name] [name]Jane[/name].

I much prefer [name]Winter[/name] to [name]Octavia[/name]. [name]Winter[/name] [name]Jane[/name] would be lovely for a [name]January[/name] baby. Congratulations!

I think [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Jane[/name] is gorgeous, and [name]Jane[/name] can also honor [name]January[/name]. Congrats on your baby girl!

I would go with [name]Octavia[/name] [name]Jane[/name]. It’s beautiful, not too cumbersome, and very original where [name]Winter[/name] is cute, but sounds a little trendy AND not like the name of a real grown-up… If you’ve been calling her [name]Winter[/name] [name]Baby[/name] throughout your pregnancy and she’s born in the [name]Winter[/name], then I think [name]Winter[/name] can continue to be her unique nickname! And I agree with poptart and characternamer that [name]Jane[/name] can honor [name]January[/name], too.

Funny you ask if anyone likes Winter because as soon as read your post I thought “how beautiful does [name]Winter[/name] [name]Jane[/name] sound!”. However if you are set in [name]Octavia[/name], then I’d leave it out to avoid too many syllables. That and I dot agree with multiple middle names haha.

I agree with poptart!

Ahh… everyone is saying what I am thinking - [name]Octavia[/name] is less accessible but perhaps more grown up, [name]Winter[/name] is more commonly liked but perhaps a bit trendy/ cutesy… how to decide???

[name]Octavia[/name] is the better choice. [name]Winter[/name] feels trendier and, while lovely, has a hippie feel that might work against your daughter, whereas [name]Octavia[/name] is a classic with a lot of flexibility. My feeling is that you CAN put [name]Winter[/name] in there in second place – why on earth not? Seems as if one thing that’s holding you up is feeling reluctant to let go of [name]Winter[/name] completely. So use it, along with [name]Jane[/name], and your daughter will have a triply special name.

Good luck! and yes, huge congratulations!!
