[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I am currently 35 weeks pregnant with my third baby girl. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband and myself have fallen in love with the name [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] for our daughter. Her Nn would be [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. [name_f]My[/name_f] dilemma is I have two older daughters with the names [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f], we are wondering if [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] are too close. We call [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] [name_f]Kait[/name_f] almost always and the girls nicknames together would be [name_f]Liv[/name_f] [name_f]Kait[/name_f] and [name_f]Maddie[/name_f]. Which we really like the way they sound. So what do you think, two names ending in [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] a bit too much? This was completely not on purpose its just the only name we agree on and love. Thanks for the help. -[name_f]Miriah[/name_f]
They are a little matchy but not terrible if you really love them they could work. Would you consider [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]? They are pronounced slightly different but would get rid of the matchy ending while keeping the name.
The only thing that throws me off is the spelling. Hearing the names, I don’t see it as a problem, but because it’s the exact same spelling of lyn, it would be just a little too much…perhaps [name_f]Madelynn[/name_f] or even [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]?
But, if you really love the name go for it, regardless
I personally wouldn’t do it because they seem really matchy! I just think most people would be calling [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f]'s names together so it will sound off most of the time, if your sibset was [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f], [name_f]Alivia[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] then it might not be as obvious!
It’s a bit matchy with the -lyn ending, but if [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] is the one you love, I say go for it! I personally prefer [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f] and [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], which at least aren’t as visually “matchy”.
Either way, [name_f]Liv[/name_f], [name_f]Kait[/name_f], and [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] make a great sibset.
I find [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] (where the end sounds like the word [name_f]Line[/name_f], not [name_f]Linn[/name_f]) more classic than [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f], and it’s a bit less common, too. It eliminates your [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] problem, you still get to call her [name_f]Maddie[/name_f], and it’s barely different from the name you agree on.
[name_f]My[/name_f] vote is for [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]. But if you hate it, I think two [name_u]Lynn[/name_u] names is a bit matchy but hardly the worst thing ever!
As a [name_f]Caitlin[/name_f] with a sister [name_f]Madeline[/name_f], pronounced Mad-uh-linn, who goes by [name_f]Maddy[/name_f], I say you’re fine! We’ve never had issues aurally, although seeing the -lyn endings of [name_f]Kaitlyn[/name_f] and [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] next to each other is a bit jarring. I second the pps on changing the spelling to [name_f]Madeline[/name_f]/[name_f]Madeleine[/name_f]
I don’t think they are too close.
I agree that if you find it is an issue you should use a different spelling/variation such as [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] or [name_f]Madeleine[/name_f], or even another Mad name like [name_u]Madison[/name_u] or [name_u]Madigan[/name_u]
Thank you for all the suggestions, but I really want the name pronounced with the [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] sound not line or lean. I think these names are pretty however they aren’t my style. I adore the name [name_u]Madison[/name_u] as well, but my husbands little sister is [name_u]Addison[/name_u] so that wont work. I think the nickname [name_f]Maddie[/name_f] is cute and thought about this alone as her first name, but I think [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] will age better as a first name. It doesn’t really bother me that my girls will both end in [name_u]Lyn[/name_u] I just wanted an outside opinion. I “feel” like my little girl is a [name_f]Madelyn[/name_f] though so that is probably what we’ll go with. Thanks again
It sounds a little too matchy for me, I’m afraid. Maybe [name_f]Natalie[/name_f]? Has a similar sound…
