My husband and I are considering [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] for our daughters middle name but want to make sure we match the correct spelling to its pronunciation.
We like the prn [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line (like [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]). Is it better spelled [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] or [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f]?
And what about the spelling with one m, [name_f]Emeline[/name_f]? Does that change the prn?
I pronounce [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] with the -leen ending, and [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] with the -line ending. But I know there’s a lot of people who pronounce [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] with the -line ending, so I think it’s okay to use either spelling.
Huh! I read all of those like [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-lynn, especially the [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] spelling. Secondarily, I might pronounce them all with a -leen ending. Without prompting, I wouldn’t pronounce any of them as [name_f]Emma[/name_f]-line.
Looks like that’s unusual…I guess it depends on who you know!
I pronounce [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] as you do. There may be pronounciation issues in the future, but if you love it then stick with it. [name_f]Emmaline[/name_f] can be pronounced wrong too. Unless having to correct people from time to time bothers you greatly, I would just use the one spelling you love the most. [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f] is a beautiful name!
