I think the spread of baby name games beyond the specific forum for that has got out of hand. Both the [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names and Talk About [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names sections are basically just full of game threads. I have nothing particularly against game threads, they just don’t usually interest me and it seems like all the actual discussions immediately get pushed down.
I’m sure the mods are already very busy but it would be nice if the games could be kept in their own section in accordance with how the site was obviously designed. Maybe move the game forum higher up on the menu, since the games are obviously so popular.
I’ve noticed the overflow as well. It doesn’t bother me too much, but the actual name discussion posts sure do get drowned out. Moving the game forum up a bit does seem like a good solution or, if the mods don’t agree, hopefully something else can be found.
[name_u]True[/name_u]! I click the “today’s posts” link and at pages 1-5 there are just so many games everywhere whereas on page 6 you can find people who really need advice but will probably have their post ignored since its so far back
[name_m]Just[/name_m] seen this but I totally agree! The games are a great addition to the site but there are many members (like me) who prefer to stick to the advice/discussion forums, and the games can clog these up. Lots of repeat and very similar name games all over the place too.
I think there are games and then there are games.
The Name Game thread is overflowing with the same old same old, threads disappear within minutes onto the next page as most name games are simply “Create a family with a namebank”, this takes one minute (if even) and then you’re moving on to the next one.
Stuff like rate the previous, name the previous, etc. are threads you put more time into and therefore are less likely to click on as often; they don’t move along as quickly, therefore they’d be lost on page 50+ within a week.
I also think that many of those threads are in a way “discussion” threads. You talk about names, you exchange imageries and comment on them.
Usually, with other threads, the discussion dies down at one point as everyone has commented, people don’t reply back (because they don’t check the thread as often), the conversation has been had many times before (what is too popular, what is too trendy, is [name_m]Cohen[/name_m] offensive, etc.) and people don’t want to say the same old same old over and over again or because it’s not a “conversation” topic and people just add their opinion without talking about differences.
If you move those games then please also move all the other non-discussion posts, because we’ve got a forum for baby names, girls names, boys names and sibling names, they don’t need to be in the discussion forum if they’re just looking for suggestions or sibling names!
