Baby name inspiration from an unexpected place

As a pharmacist, I’ve always had a fondness of the name Lyrica, but I’m not sure I could actually use a drug name as a real name. Anyway, I’ve been thinking about compiling a list like this for a while (drug names with baby naming potential). This is purely for fun, and I’m not saying any of these names should actually be used. Most of these I would consider more feminine, but there are a few I think could be used for boys (ie Rituxan and Colcrys). What names on this list do you think have baby name potential?

Drugs used to treat pain:
Lyrica, Soma, Voltaren

Antidepressants:
Celexa, Desyrel, Elavil, Pamelor, Savella

Drugs used to treat cancer:
Xeloda, [name]Adria[/name], Halaven, Elspar, Rituxan

Contraceptives have a naming world of their own… some of these are already names, and I think some of these have some real potential:
Alesse, Altavera, Amethia, [name]Amethyst[/name], Apri, Aranelle, Aviane, Azurette, Briellyn, [name]Camila[/name], Camrese, Caziant, Cyclessa, Emoquette, Enpresse, Gianvi, [name]Heather[/name], Jinteli, Jolessa, Jolivette, Kariva, [name]Leena[/name], Lessina, Levora, Loryna, Lutera, Lybrel, Marlissa, Mircette, Myzilra, Nuva, Ocella, Orsythia, [name]Portia[/name], Safyral, Syeda, Tilia, Velivet, Viorele, Wymzya, [name]Yasmin[/name], Yaz, [name]Zarah[/name], Zovia

Misc:
Septra & Cleocin – antibiotic
[name]Allegra[/name] – allergies
Concerta – ADHD
[name]Calan[/name] & Zebeta – blood pressure
Januvia & Amaryl - diabetes
Keppra – seizures
Invega – antipsychotic
Zetia - cholesterol
Lunesta – sleep
Boniva – osteoporosis
Colcrys - gout

[name]Adria[/name], [name]Amethyst[/name], [name]Camila[/name], [name]Heather[/name], [name]Yasmin[/name], [name]Zarah[/name] and [name]Allegra[/name] are used despite their drug association. [name]Forsythia[/name] (not Orsythia) is a rare flower name that I’ve seen here on Nameberry. I quite like Boniva! Thank you for the interesting post!

[name]Both[/name] my parents were pharmacists, so I find this really interesting. I think b.c. pills in particular have names specifically chosen to sound feminine, and like you said, many were names before-hand. I know it’s abbreviations and spelled differently but both parts of Fen-Phen sound like the boy’s name [name]Finn[/name].

Haha! As an oncology nurse who had Osteosarcoma herself, I know a lot of these drugs!
Lyrica,Celexa, Pamelor, Elavil, Savella, [name]Adria[/name], Alesse, Amethia, [name]Amethyst[/name], Apri, Aranelle, Aviane, Azurette, Briellyn, [name]Camila[/name], Cyclessa, Gianvi, [name]Heather[/name], Kariva, [name]Leena[/name], Lessina, Marlissa, Nuva, Ocella, [name]Portia[/name], Tilia, Velivet, [name]Yasmin[/name], [name]Zarah[/name], [name]Allegra[/name], [name]Calan[/name], Keppra all seem to have baby name potential to me!

I’m a nurse going to nurse anesthesia school & I’ve thought of naming my first born something related to my passion. Such as [name_f]Guinevere[/name_f] Sevoflurane or [name_f]Wisteria[/name_f] Epinephrine or [name_f]Juliette[/name_f] Fentanyl. I wish nameberry had a list of names inspired by pharmaceuticals!
