A friend posted a pic of a pregnant woman beside a chalkboard with names crossed out and the final name choice circled. The names were Taylee, McKarty, Nayvie, Maylee and Lakynn (the winner). I followed the link and the mom’s name is McKinli. Am I being judgmental or are these names really as awful as I think they are?
I follow her blog, the winner was actually Laikynn(which I guess to some isn’t any better). Honestly I really like Taylee, Maylee, & Laikynn. probably wouldn’t use them(well I would use Maylee but not that spelling) but I wouldn’t say they are awful.
But to answer your question no your not being judgmental your just stating a opinion.
They really are awful. When did it become cool and trendy to be illiterate? I just don’t understand…
Awful. They all sound made up.
I personally think they’re all awful, I can’t see the appeal myself. [name]Navy[/name] could be cute, with that spelling, and paired with a nice feminine middle. Aside from that, no.
[name]Just[/name] the worst! [name]Every[/name] one of those is dreadful. I know of a baby who was just named Macnalli… What are people thinking? =(
They’re all awful.
But yes, you are being very judgemental.
They’re not really great…to me. They have genuinely, somewhat pleasant sound, but that all unravels when you hear how they are spelled, and the ‘trendy’ association, which often connotates as less thoughtful choices, like ‘dim’. I think you’re just stating an opinion.
Eek. They are all pretty bad.
I think judgmental would be saying “That woman is a horrible person,” which would be unfair because we don’t know her. But we do know the names and can judge for ourselves. If we never judged anything, we would never be able to get dressed in the morning, pick a college, or find a decent doctor.
Yikes. That’s pretty bad.
Nayvie is the only one I came close to liking, I even like the way it is spelled. But that said, I would not name one of mine it.
I like the way Taylee looks in print, but it sounds like [name]Taylor[/name], which I have never cared for.
I agree…awful…all of them. Nayvie is the worst…sounds like Navel!
Names like this are very common in [name]Utah[/name]. Nameberry even did a blog post about it. Utah Baby Names: What’s So Funny? | Nameberry
We have a different idea of class I guess
Yea, it’s not like I assume she’s a bad mom or anything over it, and considering that her own name would fit seamlessly into that list, they might not strike her as odd at all. I read in the paper recently about an A.D.A. whose name was something trendy-sounding like [name]Kayley[/name], so it’s not like having a unique or trendy name would ruin her career opportunities. Although there probably are some employers who wouldn’t take someone as seriously, it would be pretty unfair to hold it against someone what their parents decided to name them. All the names on the list just seem like they’d require endless repeating/spelling/explaining every time she meets someone. I met [name]Mistin[/name] and [name]Colt[/name] and honestly thought they were [name]Misty[/name] and [name]Cole[/name] until I saw their names online. I have to correct people from time to time that my name is [name]Alex[/name], not [name]Alice[/name], so names that are likely to be unfamiliar to most people just seem like more trouble than they’re worth. I can understand the desire to give your child something original–anything in the top 100 is automatically off my list–but there are just so many lovely names to choose from, especially for girls. I guess it could be worse, as some kids get names that sound like STDs, but still, my first reaction to her list was to cringe a little.
