Baby name regret

Hey everyone. I am reaching out for advice on my daughters’ name. Sorry for the lengthy post. I know this post is a little odd considering she is 3 months old. I have been having baby name regret for the past couple of months and I am not sure what to do. [name_f]My[/name_f] daughters name is [name_u]Emery[/name_u]. During my pregnancy, it was very difficult for my husband and I to ever agree on any names for my sweet daughter. He liked zero names! I love unisex gender neutral names. I loved the name [name_u]Spencer[/name_u] and my husband hated it. Also, I liked the name [name_u]Camryn[/name_u] and he was not crazy about it. He loved the name
emery, so that is what we chose. He liked names such as [name_u]Anne[/name_u] or [name_f]Bridget[/name_f]. These are great names just not [name_f]My[/name_f] style. However, now I am not crazy about [name_u]Emery[/name_u]. It is a nice name.
I am just not sure it fits.I fear we chose this name because it was all we could agree on. I am unsure what to do. I have considered a change to [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. However, the drug reference to [name_f]Molly[/name_f] makes
Me nervous. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband thinks it’s just hormones and I will get over it. Any tips or ideas

I think doing what you feel is best is important. You may grow to love [name_u]Emery[/name_u], and as she gets older she may grow into it. There are great and versatile nicknames [name_f]Emme[/name_f], [name_f]Emmie[/name_f], [name_f]Mae[/name_f], [name_f]Mary[/name_f] , [name_u]Remy[/name_u] that you may like as well.

I personally love that the name [name_u]Emery[/name_u] is unisex and lends so many adorable nicknames and it feels like a name that has lots of personality.

Molly is a cute name but I understand the hesitation.
I also can see [name_f]Molly[/name_f] bring a nickname for [name_u]Emery[/name_u] ( even though for some it may be a stretch) . I would test out using it as a nickname and see how it feels.

Change it if it doesn’t feel right. She’s still young so you’re not late! It might be harder to do in the future.
[name_f]Molly[/name_f] is a beautiful name, and I never heard of the drug reference? Am I missing something?

Anyway, good luck with your decision

@destiny4life you have to trust your gut.
And it often gets blamed on the hormones.
She’s still so new that she doesn’t know her name yet- should you choose to change.
You want to be enthusiastic about the name your baby has.
[name_u]Emery[/name_u] is such a sweet name but if you are not excited about it now, can you see the excitement growing?
Maybe there’s something similar you would love that it would just be a subtle name change? [name_u]Or[/name_u] a nickname that you can go with?
[name_f]Emi[/name_f]
[name_f]Emmy[/name_f]

Or just change it completely to the name you love! Mama should get the final say (IMO).

I think you should go with your gut feeling! It’s not to late to change it since she’s still very young. Would nicknames like [name_f]Emmie[/name_f] or [name_f]Emme[/name_f] fit her? Maybe [name_f]Emma[/name_f] even though it might be a bit of a stretch? Good luck!

I really like [name_u]Emery[/name_u], especially compared to [name_f]Molly[/name_f], but it’s not about me, or anyone else. You need to make sure you love the name and that it works for your daughter. I can totally understand that the decision may have felt rushed or like a compromise. You can definitely change the name at this point; I would just reconsider [name_f]Molly[/name_f] (one of my co-workers actually just legally changed her name from [name_f]Molly[/name_f]—we are high school teachers, so yeah) and really take several weeks to get to something both you and your husband love and feel great about.

She’s 3 months old, so if you truly feel like the name isn’t her name, then change it now. She might grow into [name_u]Emery[/name_u], but for now if you don’t think the name is for her, then I would say change it.Both [name_u]Emery[/name_u] and [name_f]Molly[/name_f] and beautiful; [name_u]Emery[/name_u] is very versatile and [name_f]Molly[/name_f]’s cute. Good luck! [name_m]Just[/name_m] trust your gut💜

Thanks everyone. I am just hesitant at this point because I’m not sure if I would regret this later. It’s a tough decision to make. I guess I just can’t imagine her saying mom I would rather have been [name_u]Emery[/name_u]. I have been calling her [name_f]Emmy[/name_f] and I am
Ok with [name_f]Emmy[/name_f], however not crazy about [name_u]Emery[/name_u]. I know this is a great name for many people. However, just not sure it is a fit for my daughter. [name_f]My[/name_f] name is [name_f]Danielle[/name_f] and I always went by [name_u]Danny[/name_u] and I always loved my name.

Also, I feel that people do not hear emery will.
I have gotten a lot of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] and [name_f]Annmarie[/name_f] which is making me doubt our decision.

Oh wow! Thanks. I love [name_f]Molly[/name_f]… but the drug reference definitely has made stopped me from making that change

I think [name_u]Emery[/name_u] is a cute name.

Yeah, there have been more than a small amount of references to her first name, and she said she’s never loved [name_f]Molly[/name_f], so there was a little more to it than that.

I would say that you should trust your gut feelings. It is not too late to change it. I have not heard about the negative association with [name_f]Molly[/name_f]. Alternately, do you prefer her middle name? Perhaps, you could call her by that name instead?

Won’t comment on the name change itself because what I think doesn’t really matter but I can say this about [name_f]Molly[/name_f]:

The whole drug thing isn’t really a thing now. There was a song a while ago that made it a bit more prevalent but I didn’t come across the drug references until late high school, early college. I’m at an age where people definitely do/have experimented with drugs and the MDMA-[name_f]Molly[/name_f] connection has never been a huge issue. It is even less prevalent now than it was. Like maybe she’ll hear about it as an adult but also maybe not.

The biggest pain about the name [name_f]Molly[/name_f]/Moll, in my informed opinion, is that it sounds a lot like mommy/mom. That’s always been a minor annoyance for me throughout my whole life-especially as the oldest child. So that’s something I would think about.

Otherwise, it’s easy to say, easy to spell. A fine name to have.
