Hiii so i read a book called [name_f]Silence[/name_f] by [name_f]Natasha[/name_f] [name_m]Preston[/name_m] and the main character was a girl named [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]. Since I read the book I’ve been sold on the name and if I ever get the chance to use it I will buttttt people seem to hate it. They like it more on boys or just think its plain terrible. What are y’all’s thoughts’ (Can also be spelled [name_m]Oaklee[/name_m] or [name_m]Oaklie[/name_m])
PS. I’m not a mom or even pregnant. [name_m]Just[/name_m] really love baby names, last name possibilities, and sibsets!
I’d probably think of it as a boys’ name, but I can definitely see it on a girl. In fact I kind of like it on a girl . . . even though it’s certainly not my style.
I know a toddler named [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], and when his parents announced the name I HATED it because I prefer it so much more on a girl. The [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] connection makes it a strong female name in my opinion. FWIW, I don’t like the other spellings.
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] is not one of my favorite names but it’s okay. If you’re concerned with other people’s opinions but still want to keep the literary connection, you could use it as a middle name. Here are some combos I thought of:
I just think it’s a very masculine name and maybe too surname-ish. I prefer [name_u]Oak[/name_u] and I think it’s weird to name a girl [name_u]Oakley[/name_u].
A girl I went to high school with just named her baby girl [name_m]Oakleigh[/name_m]. You’re probably more likely to find more vitriol for it here on NB than out in real life; it’s ranked #611 for girls in the US, so it’s well within the top 1000 names. I personally don’t like it because of the sound, but if you like it, then go for it.
I don’t see [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] as anything BUT a girls name!!! I don’t consider it a boys name AT ALL! It sounds very feminine to me. I love it for a girl! I like the [name_m]Oaklee[/name_m] spelling the best
I love [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]! I’d use only this spelling ([name_u]Oakley[/name_u]) tho. To me it’s a unisex name, it’s on my top 10 for both a boy or a girl. If you look in my signature you will see that I have it there for a girl ([name_f]Indira[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u]), and yes for a girl maybe I’d pair it with a more feminine name and for a boy with a more masculine one. But I think it is a most lovely name, and it has significance to me so that only makes me love [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] more!
It’s not my style but it is cute paired with a strong girly middle name I think it is totally usable. Some middle names I think work would be :
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_f]Lillian[/name_f]
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_f]Zara[/name_f]
[name_u]Oakley[/name_u] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
I don’t particularly like this name at all, I just think of the sunglasses, and I know a dog named [name_u]Oakley[/name_u], but if I had to pick one it definitely sounds more feminine to me.
I like [name_u]Oakley[/name_u] but really dislike alternative spellings. People who think it’s a masculine name aren’t going to like it any better on a girl just because you feminize the spelling. This is a truly unisex name [name_f]IMO[/name_f], although I prefer it for a girl, especially because of the connection to [name_f]Annie[/name_f] [name_u]Oakley[/name_u].
