Ahh I’m so happy they’re finally up! I’m surprised [name_f]Bluebell[/name_f] has fallen out of the top 1000, and [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] in the top 100 shocked me, but I love seeing [name_f]Florrie[/name_f] up there now!
Exciting!
I’m surprised that [name_f]Amelia[/name_f] is still No. 1 for girls. Interesting to see that [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is more popular than [name_f]Isla[/name_f] now - I thought [name_f]Isla[/name_f] would have risen in ranking.
[name_m]Roman[/name_m] is an unusual one- I know a four year old [name_m]Roman[/name_m] and always assumed he was pretty unique!
Other than that it all seems as expected, I can see [name_u]Noah[/name_u] rising even more in coming years
I only had a quick scan on British [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names, and completely failed at not looking up some of my favourites, even though I said I wouldn’t. I’m slightly surprised that [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] is in the top 1000 now. And of course I’m far too disappointed that [name_m]Caspian[/name_m]'s been given to a whole 2 more babies, and climbed many more spots up the chart. As has [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] but I predicted that, and it’ll probably rise a lot more. [name_m]Ah[/name_m] well, I’m going to have a closer look.
I was interested - and somewhat surprised - to see [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] fell 158 places from #104 in 2014, to #262 in 2015.
Frozen came out in [name_u]December[/name_u] 2013 (in the UK) - so I would say [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] being just outside the Top 100 in 2014 was a result of that - and I thought the Frozen effect would last a little longer. Clearly not though, as I would say a fall of over 150 places is quite the tumble!
There’s a fantastic website called [name_f]England[/name_f] & [name_m]Wales[/name_m] [name_u]Baby[/name_u] Names, that has all the data from 1996 to present entered, and you can track any name that has [name_u]EVER[/name_u] featured in the complete lists (names used 3 times or more). It’s great for seeing if a name is somewhat on the rise. This is the entry for Elsa, and you can see just how dramatic that fall was, when it’s in graph form!
If you want to look up other names, just start typing over [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] in the box on the left-hand side, and let it work its magic!
[name_f]Mila[/name_f]'s rise is quite something, and again, best viewed in graph form!
I’m very curious about fairly rapid climb of Reggie, and my family in [name_m]Wales[/name_m] have no idea what could have influenced it, they can’t think of a TV character or anything like that. Would love to know if any of our Britberries have any idea.
@maggiemary, I’m also a bit surprised by the popularity of [name_u]Reggie[/name_u]. The only famous [name_u]Reggie[/name_u] I can think of is the TV presenter [name_u]Reggie[/name_u] Yates.
@maggiemary, [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_u]Ennis[/name_u]-[name_m]Hill[/name_m] had a baby in [name_u]July[/name_u] 2014 called [name_u]Reggie[/name_u], which I think may have had an influence in the rise. And then like @lumen said, there’s [name_u]Reggie[/name_u] Yates, but he’s been around for a long while.
Definitely interested to see [name_m]Emrys[/name_m] in the top 1000 now, and also the fall of [name_f]Elsa[/name_f] - thanks @maggiemary for that link!
[name_u]Reggie[/name_u] immediately made me think of [name_f]Jessica[/name_f] [name_u]Ennis[/name_u]-[name_m]Hill[/name_m]. And I seem to have been seeing/hearing [name_f]Arabella[/name_f] a lot, so not that surprised it’s up there now. [name_m]Jaxon[/name_m] (spelled that way) and [name_m]Roman[/name_m] are a surprise to me, as is [name_f]Nancy[/name_f] for girls, and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] - I actually love [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], but surprised to see it as a full name.
I’m actually not that surprised by this. Nicknamey names like [name_u]Reggie[/name_u] have been on the rise since the resurgence of [name_u]Alfie[/name_u] and [name_m]Archie[/name_m]. For example, I know of two newborn [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]'s in the last few weeks!
