Baby naming is making me miserable!

Berries help! [name]Baby[/name] naming is killing me! Here is a little background. We are finally having a girl , after 3 boys! We lost my mom in [name]January[/name] and i feel compelled to honor her some how. Her name was [name]Diane[/name], but I am not fond of it. She loved butterflies, and i came across the name Eilir ( pronounced [name]Ah[/name]-Leer) which is Welsh for butterfly. I love it for a middle name, everyone else seems to hate it :frowning: My favorite so far is [name]ROWEN[/name] EILIR. My husband feels it is too masculine.
These are a few of the names i like;
[name]Rowen[/name]
Loxley
[name]Everly[/name]
Please help!!! Opinions, suggestions! I like unusual, different names. This is supposed to be fun. HELP!

I had that same problem naming my first.
So I decided to use 2nd middle name to honor so i could use another name I liked.
Could you use your moms middle name?

[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Everly[/name] [name]Diane[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Adelaide[/name] [name]Diane[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] [name]Diane[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] [name]Diane[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Mackenzie[/name] [name]Diane[/name]

Have you considered using a variation of [name]Diane[/name] instead? There’s [name]Diana[/name], of course, or if you’d like something more unusual, [name]Diantha[/name].

I like [name]Rowan[/name] the best of your first name ideas. Loxley reminds me of salmon spread. [name]Everly[/name] is okay, but I prefer [name]Waverly[/name].

[name]Rowan[/name] [name]Diana[/name], [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Diantha[/name], [name]Waverly[/name] [name]Diana[/name] or [name]Waverly[/name] [name]Diantha[/name] would be lovely.

Good luck!

What are y’all’s opinion on Eilir? Too out there?

I think Eilir is beautiful! All 3 of your names [name]Rowen[/name] Eilir, Loxley Eilir and [name]Everly[/name] Eilir flow nicely. My favorite is Loxley Eilir. Loxley is such a sweet name! Using [name]Diane[/name] or [name]Diana[/name] as a second middle name is also quite Chic!

Some others might be…

[name]Leela[/name]
[name]Deanna[/name]
[name]Kami[/name]
[name]Theola[/name]
[name]Fedora[/name]
[name]Divina[/name]
[name]Diandra[/name]
[name]Deana[/name]
[name]Dayana[/name]
[name]Dione[/name]
[name]Dyani[/name]
[name]Dia[/name]

[name]Diane[/name] means [name]Divine[/name] and these names are close to that meaning.

I like Eilir, I think it’s pretty and sentimental. I like [name]Mariposa[/name], as well as Flutura as far as butterfly names go.

I think [name]Diane[/name] / [name]Diana[/name] / [name]Diantha[/name] / [name]Kiana[/name] (Hawaiian form of [name]Diana[/name]) would all be nice to use, especially in the middle. ( I think having a unique first name is important) - I do like [name]Rowan[/name], but it does have a very unisex / masculine feel. Loxley is just not attractive, I’m sorry and [name]Everly[/name] is very trendy. What about [name]Elodie[/name]? [name]Elodie[/name] Eilir or maybe [name]Elodie[/name] [name]Diana[/name] / [name]Dianthe[/name] would be stunning!

I am loving the input! Keep it coming!

I also prefer [name]Mariposa[/name] to Eilir.
I like [name]Diane[/name], or [name]Diana[/name], [name]Deanne[/name], [name]Deanna[/name], [name]Anne[/name], [name]Ann[/name], etc. My condolenses on losing your mom.
I am not fond of any your first name choices. [name]Rowen[/name] is the best of the bunch. I prefer [name]Rowan[/name]. Rowane spelled like that might even be a way to honor your mom.
I say keep namestorming for first names. Maybe find some more girly choices.
I think if you find a better first name, the middle name will be get easier.
Good [name]Luck[/name]!

What about [name]Luna[/name] as [name]Diana[/name] was a moon goddess?

Namestorming? Ha! I love it! Great term, I’m stealing that!

[name]Mariposa[/name] has already been vetoed by all the guys. I think am pretty set on Eilir as the middle name.I do like the idea of possibly using two. Right now inam leaning towards [name]EVERLY[/name] EILIR-[name]DIANE[/name].But I do appreciate all the input

All of our kids have two middles - I personally like it, I love long names and Eilir-[name]Diane[/name] is really lovely and meaningful!

I don’t care for the hyphen, particularly with two mismatched and rather unusual names like [name]Diane[/name] and Eilir (obviously Eilir is much more unusual than [name]Diane[/name], but I think the hyphen really only works with [name]Mary[/name], [name]Anne[/name], [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Kate[/name]. That’s it).

[name]Everly[/name] is a frankly silly name. It’s either a fake adverb (“and they lived happily everly after”) or [name]Beverly[/name] with the B chopped off. I think you can do better.

We on nameberry will love names like Eilir, which is lovely and unusual, but out in the real world it might strike people as a castoff from [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings or a video game character. If you have the guts to use it, that’s awesome, but I would pair it with something more timeless and more familiar in the front.

I think Eilir is ok. [name]Diana[/name] is beautiful. I like [name]Rowan[/name]. The -en spelling seems unnecessary. I don’t like your other first names. They seem a bit masculine to me. [name]Rowan[/name] Eilir is alright but I agree it is a bit masculine. Would you consider Eilira? It sounds prettier and flows better with [name]Rowan[/name].

Honestly I would be more likely to use a variant of [name]Diane[/name] than something referring to butterflies. I like the suggestion of [name]Luna[/name]. I also like [name]Diantha[/name]. But [name]Diana[/name] is def my favorite. So classic and beautiful. [name]Diana[/name] [name]Rowan[/name] is gorgeous, and [name]Rowan[/name] [name]Diana[/name] works really well too.

I would drop the hyphen.

I agree with [name]Blade[/name] completely.
You dont need to use Eilir if youre using [name]Diane[/name]. 1 name is enough to honor. If youre willing to use [name]Diane[/name] as a second middle, Eilir is really unnecessary. Use that slot for something you are head over heels for.

If youre interested in 2 middles, heres the formula I used with all of my 6 named babies:
1-2-3 syllabes. could be in different orders, but it helps with flow. 2 of mine have 2-2-2 syllables.
[name]Diane[/name] is grounded. You can use a more modern name up front, paired with a lovely flowy middle. 1 very unusual name is enough, especially in a 3 name combo.

[name]Hope[/name] this helps!
so beautiful you are honoring the memory of your mom <3

I quite love Eilir, actually! It sounds very melodic. I’m not terribly fond of [name]Rowan[/name] on a girl–I love it for a boy!–but I do think something along the lines of [name]Everly[/name] Eilir (or even [name]Ever[/name] Eilir, or [name]Evangeline[/name] Eilir, [name]Evelyn[/name] Eilir, [name]Evelina[/name] Eilir, [name]Eva[/name] Eilir, nn [name]Evie[/name]?) would be super sweet. I also love the idea of [name]Charlotte[/name] Eilir… It seems like you lean more toward unisex, but I think with Eilir (which seems a bit gender ambiguous to begin with) you need a more feminine first name, or at least a unisex name that is undeniably girl (which I can’t really think of any that are that way–then again, I am quite a fan of unisex names on boys, as you’ll see in my signature. I think [name]Felicity[/name] Eilir or [name]Verity[/name] Eilir would be lovely, too.

I am pretty set on Eilir for the middle name. My mother was never particularly fond of [name]Diane[/name] herself. I think she would really love the nod to butterflies. She always wore atleast one butterfly everyday. I am a little surprised at the response towards [name]Everly[/name]. It does not feel trendy or made up to me at all, and definitely feels feminine. None the less, I appreciate all the feedback and suggestions.
