I’m popping in to announce the birth of our twin girls. Our little ones decided they had to be 2012 babies and arrived on 12/31, about 6 weeks early. They arrived in the 2AM hour so no “last babies of 2012” or anything like that- maybe last twins, but I didn’t really ask. Their names are:
Thank you Berries…you helped us decide between [name]Lucille[/name] and [name]Estelle[/name]. It was really hard to pick two more girl names, even though I love tons of them! Picking twin names really IS hard. You have to find that balance between “siblings +” and “too matchy”
[name]Coraline[/name]'s name was much harder. We couldn’t get over [name]Lucille[/name], even though no names seemed a natural fit as her twin sister. I kept searching until two wonderful ladies here convinced me to give [name]Coraline[/name] a second glance. Thanks lemon and spotlightstarlit for putting up with my fickle name choices, husband’s crazy comments, and sticking with me for the final choices. ((HUGS))
Big sisters [name]Scarlett[/name] (10), [name]Penelope[/name] (8), and [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Fiona[/name] (2- fraternal twins) can’t wait for [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] to come home!
(All of our daughters have flower/nature middle names. For privacy reasons, I don’t want to list them with their first names, but in order they are R0se, [name]Iris[/name], Bry0ny, and Marig0ld. I wanted to give some context about how “Double Stuff” got their middle names)
Big, big hugs to you, J! And squeezes for little [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] - prayers that they grow big and strong quickly and are able to join “the bigs” at home very soon. I’ll catch up with you in detail in a bit, hon. [name]Happy[/name] day! Congrats!
Wow that is fantastic news! My gorgeous 5 y.o. granddaughter shares a birthday with your girls and my sis’s middle name is [name]Lucille[/name] so I feel very connected to the girls.
Kisses and kisses and squeezes and love to all of the girls and Mama. <3 Praying for these little ones to grow big and strong and begin to show off their luminous personalities.
Oh my goodness, I was so happy to see your post! Congratulations on little [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Cora[/name]! Blessings to your beautifully named family.
Oh Congratulations!!! I was wondering when you were having the twins. [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] are a perfect addition! love and prayers for your lovely family
Thanks all. My husband and I are absolutely thrilled. It’s been an exciting year for our family already!
[name]Blade[/name],
Yes, unfortunately, the little ones are looking at some NICU time. They are doing really well though. Due to a host of pregnancy complications (mostly maternal-driven), they had steroid shots for their lungs a few weeks ago. So they are breathing on their own and already taking most feedings during the day by mouth. They both need to gain weight before they can come home. [name]Both[/name] girls are under the 4 pound mark after losing some weight after birth. It will probably be about 2 weeks before they pass that threshold and do everything else consistently before they can be released.
That’s encouraging! I’m sure you know, the rough rule of thumb is that they stay in the NiCU until they reach the full term mark (so, for 34-weekers, 3 week stay is average). Are they at your husband’s hospital?
Congratulations! lovely names! i so hope they grow and get strong, premature birth seems so scary when you’re having twins, I’m already beside myself worrying. hope you’re recovering too.
dianeanee- hang in there! Twins can be scary. For what it’s worth, our first set came “late” (37 weeks 4 days) and were big, normal singleton-size weights. We actually had a planned homebirth. This time things were a little different and unfortunately we did face some complications, but it’s definitely possible to have a relatively normal twin pregnancy and birth!
lori- thank you! stamina is definitely what I need right now.
blade- they are in one of the hospitals where my husband works, yes. With our health plan through the university, it’s kinda our only choice (lol), but it’s also the best choice too. It’s great to be near top health care resources.
Ohh, I’ve been waiting to hear this, too! [name]Lucille[/name] and [name]Coraline[/name] are lovely with your other girls, [name]Lucy[/name] and [name]Cora[/name] just fit in perfectly. And I love the full combos, as well, just beautiful.
