With less than a week until my due date time is running out to find a name!
We have sketched up a bit of a list and would love some feedback and more ideas! We have some questions for some of the names too. Our girl’s list is quite long (but at least we have a list!!)
Girls:
[name]Clementine[/name] - does anyone know an adult [name]Clementine[/name]? I love it for a young girl but I’m not sure about an adult.
[name]Florence[/name] - I haven’t been to [name]Florence[/name], can I still use the name?
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Alice[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name]
[name]Sasha[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]
[name]Eden[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Mary[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]
Boys:
[name]Ives[/name] - leaning towards using this- as a first or middle (not sure which spot we prefer)
[name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Charlie[/name]
[name]Edward[/name]
[name]Joel[/name]
[name]Rex[/name]
[name]Austin[/name]
[name]William[/name]
[name]Winston[/name]
[name]Judd[/name]
Thoughts and suggestions greatly appreciated. Last name begins with A (three syllables)
You have some great names on your list! My favourites are:
Girls:
[name]Clementine[/name] - but I struggle to imagine it on an adult
[name]Florence[/name] -I think it is fine to use if you haven’t been to [name]Florence[/name]
[name]Rose[/name]
[name]Lila[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
[name]Lola[/name]
[name]Heidi[/name]
Boys:
[name]Ives[/name] - prefer it in the middle spot
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Ives[/name]
[name]Charlie[/name] [name]Ives[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] [name]Ives[/name] - love this! EIA might be too many vowels though!
[name]William[/name] [name]Ives[/name]
[name]Violet[/name]
(Can you tell I like the letter l combined with a long i sound? So pretty!) I like the middle name [name]Mary[/name] with both-- [name]Lila[/name] [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Mary[/name].
[name]William[/name]- I just think you can’t go wrong with this name. So handsome, and plenty of nicknames.
[name]Charlie[/name]- Although I would do [name]Charles[/name], I still like [name]Charlie[/name]. And I suppose [name]Charlie[/name] carries into adulthood fine, unlike [name]Sammy[/name] or [name]Billy[/name] or something.
I think of [name]Florence[/name] as a name first, and as a place name second. I think it’s more than okay to use it if you’ve never been.
Girls:
[name]Clementine[/name]- Idk if I can see an adult [name]Clementine[/name], but I like the name. [name]Florence[/name]- You can most definitely use it even if you haven’t been to [name]Florence[/name]. [name]Rose[/name]- very common as a middle, but not a first. I say right on. [name]Lila[/name]- This is ridiculously pretty [name]Alice[/name]- [name]One[/name] of my favorites I love the [name]Alice[/name] in Wonderland connection [name]Violet[/name]- Also one of my faves [name]Violet[/name] [name]Lila[/name] or [name]Lila[/name] [name]Violet[/name] would make a good combo
[name]Alexandra[/name]- When I was little, I wanted to be named [name]Alexandra[/name]. I could never use it because my name is [name]Alexis[/name].
[name]Sasha[/name]- feels outdated to me
[name]Lola[/name]- I can only see it on a dog
[name]Eden[/name]- Never liked it
[name]Heidi[/name]- feels old fashioned, but maybe it’s just me. [name]Evangeline[/name]- gorgeous
[name]Mary[/name]- to plain. There’s not enough spice or flair to this. [name]Kinda[/name] a let down after seeing [name]Evangeline[/name]. [name]Matilda[/name]- Always reminds me of the movie
Boys:
[name]Ives[/name]- prefer it in the middle
[name]Benjamin[/name]- nice classic name
[name]Samuel[/name]- nice and masculine [name]Charlie[/name]- I’ve always loved it
[name]Edward[/name]- This is a horrible thing to say, but it reminds me of Twilight. I wouldn’t use it for personal reasons. [name]Joel[/name]- unique and masculine
[name]Rex[/name]- can’t see it on a actual human. sorry
[name]Austin[/name]-hmmm. [name]William[/name]- a nice, versatile, boy name [name]Winston[/name]- unique and pleasing to the eyes and ears [name]Judd[/name]- cool cowboy name
[name]Clementine[/name] - I can picture this on an adult. I think there’s an actress named [name]Clementine[/name] [name]Ford[/name] on a soap opera, and there’s also the [name]Clementine[/name] in the movie “[name]Eternal[/name] [name]Sunshine[/name] of the Spotless Mind.”
[name]Florence[/name] - I’m sure you can still this name, I associate it with [name]Florence[/name] Nightingale along with the city.
[name]Rose[/name]- I love this name, it’s classic, sweet and ages well.
[name]Lila[/name]- This would be fine but double l names are so common now I’m kind of sick of them.
[name]Alice[/name]- I put this under the same category of [name]Rose[/name].
[name]Violet[/name]- This is a name that’s really been growing on me lately.
[name]Alexandra[/name]- It’s okay, but not my favorite.
[name]Sasha[/name]- This name is just a bit too sweet and whisper-y for me.
[name]Lola[/name]- [name]LOLA[/name] L-O-L-A [name]LOLA[/name] sorry all I can think of is the song
[name]Eden[/name]- While it’s too religious for me personally, I do like the sound of this name.
[name]Heidi[/name]- This is another nice name, although it still screams “SWITZERLAND” to me.
[name]Evangeline[/name]- Not my fave.
[name]Mary[/name]- Nice, but I live in a Catholic neighborhood so I know a million [name]Marys[/name] so I’m kind of tired of it. However it is an name that will never be dated, so that’s nice.
[name]Matilda[/name]- [name]LOVE[/name] this name. “[name]Matilda[/name]” was my favorite book as a kid and it’s a pretty good movie and musical as well. I love both the nicknames [name]Tillie[/name] and [name]Mattie[/name].
Boys:
[name]Ives[/name] - I like middle better.
[name]Benjamin[/name]- Classic name, and I love [name]Ben[/name], but I know five personally.
[name]Samuel[/name]- I guess because I know six female “Sams” in my grade alone the nn “[name]Sam[/name]” is now very feminine to me, and I don’t care for the full name [name]Samuel[/name].
[name]Charlie[/name]- [name]Love[/name] it.
[name]Edward[/name]- Sadly, too Twilight-y nowadays.
[name]Joel[/name]- Nice, if a bit forgettable. [name]Just[/name] a few days ago I was playing a video game with a character named [name]Joel[/name], and my brother, who was playing with me, kept forgetting his name up until the end of the game.
[name]Rex[/name]- I’d like to meet a [name]Rex[/name]. Some think it’s too much of a dog’s name, but to me it’s a fresher [name]Max[/name].
[name]Austin[/name]- Persona association makes this weird for me, but otherwise it’s a fine name.
[name]William[/name]- A classic name, and I actually think [name]Billy[/name] would be cute on a little boy.
[name]Winston[/name]- Not my style
[name]Judd[/name]- Not my style either
Thank you for the help. It is so great to get such fantastic responses!
We have narrowed down to (with issues in brackets):
Clementine (too sing-songy? nickname?)
Florence (too associated with the place?)
Lila (too popular?)
Violet (nickname?- not a fan of ‘Vi’)
leaning towards Mary for the middle name
Boys:
Benjamin (too popular?)
Samuel ("")
Charles ("")
William ("")
Winston (too out there?!)
I [name]LOVE[/name] the name Evangeline, it’s my absolute favourite, I think it’s stunning.
My next choice would be Florenceand yes, it’s perfectly okay even though you’ve never been.
I don’t like any of the other girls names to be completely honest, besides Rosebecause that is my middle name, haha.
Now for the boys, I love Ivesas a middle name, with Benjaminas the first.
Great names and lots of good combinations with your short list! I’m a big [name]Churchill[/name] fan, so [name]Clementine[/name] and [name]Winston[/name] get a lot of love from me!
[name]Clementine[/name] [name]Mary[/name] or [name]Mary[/name] [name]Clementine[/name] both work well. [name]Clemmie[/name] is my favorite nn. You could also use [name]Flora[/name] [name]Clementine[/name], [name]Lila[/name] [name]Clementine[/name], or [name]Violet[/name] [name]Clementine[/name]. [name]Florence[/name] is not too associated with [name]Italy[/name]-- think [name]Florence[/name] Nightengale or [name]Florence[/name] and the Machine instead. [name]Florence[/name] [name]Mary[/name], [name]Mary[/name] [name]Florence[/name], [name]Florence[/name] [name]Violet[/name], and [name]Violet[/name] [name]Florence[/name] are good combinations too. [name]Lila[/name] is a little different from the other names you’re considering-- what about [name]Delilah[/name] with [name]Lila[/name] as a nn? [name]Delilah[/name] [name]Mary[/name] works well. [name]Florence[/name] [name]Delilah[/name] is another suggestion.
[name]Benjamin[/name], [name]Samuel[/name], and [name]William[/name] are all pretty popular, but they are timeless classics that all work well with [name]Ives[/name] as a mn. I prefer [name]Winston[/name] to all of these and either [name]Winston[/name] [name]Ives[/name] or [name]Winston[/name] [name]Edward[/name] work well. [name]Ives[/name] as a fn would be different, but the only combination I really like from the names on your list is [name]Ives[/name] [name]Edward[/name]. [name]Ivo[/name] is another similar name and I think the -O ending makes it a little more useable. [name]Ivo[/name] [name]Samuel[/name] or [name]Ivo[/name] [name]William[/name] work well together.
[name]Clementine[/name] - A: Indeed I do. She is 70 years old and the funniest lady I have ever met. Goes by [name]Tina[/name].
[name]Florence[/name] - A: Yes, you can still use it.
[name]Rose[/name] - I love the nickname [name]Rosie[/name]
[name]Lila[/name] - Like it as a nickname, but prefer a more substantial option for a full ([name]Elizaveta[/name], [name]Delilah[/name], [name]Lilliana[/name], etc)
[name]Alice[/name] - No
[name]Violet[/name] - [name]Love[/name]. My sister wants to name her daughter [name]Violet[/name]
[name]Alexandra[/name] - No
[name]Sasha[/name] - It’s okay
[name]Lola[/name] - Also nice, prefer [name]Lula[/name]
[name]Eden[/name] - I like it
[name]Heidi[/name] - Not really enjoying it
[name]Evangeline[/name] - [name]Love[/name]
[name]Mary[/name] - I love this name
[name]Matilda[/name] - No
[name]Ives[/name] - Oh, I love it!
[name]Benjamin[/name] - Like a lot
[name]Samuel[/name] - Like
[name]Charlie[/name] - Prefer [name]Charles[/name]
[name]Edward[/name] - Okay
[name]Joel[/name] - [name]Love[/name]
[name]Rex[/name] - Too dog name-ish for me
[name]Austin[/name] - A tad too popular
[name]William[/name] - Nice
[name]Winston[/name] - Not really exuberant
[name]Judd[/name] - Nope
From your narrowed down list, I would say [name]Lila[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] for a girl, [name]Charles[/name] or [name]Winston[/name] for a boy. [name]Winston[/name] sounds educated and expensive (ie [name]Harry[/name] [name]Winston[/name]). [name]Charles[/name] is a classic. [name]Lila[/name], I’ve never met anyone with this name, it sounds pretty & sweet. [name]Violet[/name] sounds pretty & gentle. Good luck! And congratulations!
