Baby on the way: name help!

Hi!

Me and my husband are expecting our first baby next week! However, we still haven’t decided on a name. We won’t find out the gender until the baby is born so we need both girl and boy name ideas, as well as middle name ideas too. We love longer names that have an adorable nickname to go with it. We also plan on having more kids in the future so we want to decide on a ‘theme’ so that the future sibset works well together. So far we have:

Girls first names:
Astrid nn Asta- this has long been one of our favorites and is a strong contender
Imogen nn Immy - we love this one too
Petra - struggling on a nickname for this one
Maeve - my husband loves it but I’m not convinced
Oakley - I still can’t decide if I like this
Corinne - again, struggling for nicknames
… nn Bea - we love the nn Bea but need a longer version - Not a fan of Beatrice
Camryn - not sure if this fits with the other names

Girls middle names:
Elodie
Mae
Quinn
Reese
Anne/Annie
Wren

Boys first names:
August nn Gus - neither of us are really convinced
Everett - again not too sure
… nn Finn - we love the nn Finn but need a longer version of it

Boys middle names:
Lee
Knox - loved this as a first name too but it was too short
McCoy

Longer versions for [name_f]Bea[/name_f] I like are
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f]
[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]
[name_u]Ashby[/name_u]
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_f]Immy[/name_f] from [name_f]Imogen[/name_f]! And I think it leaves you open to awesome combos in the future. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u]! And love [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u].

[name_u]Finn[/name_u] can be
[name_m]Phineas[/name_m]
[name_u]Finnegan[/name_u]
[name_u]Finley[/name_u]

[name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_m]Knox[/name_m] is great too. [name_u]Love[/name_u] your style.

I love Bianca nn Bea, I’ve never seen this before and I love it! Unfortunately the name Phoebe is already taken in our family and otherwise it would definitely be on the list. I love Phineas Knox and so does my husband, I think that one is definitely a winner.

Thank you for all the lovely suggestions!

We are now thinking if it’s a girl then either Astrid Elodie nn Asta, Imogen Reese nn Immy, or Bianca Wren nn Bea. If it’s a boy then Phineas Knox nn Finn. You have completely won us over with that one

Astrid is one of my favourite names so this definitely gets my vote from your girls’ list. Imogen and Maeve are lovely too, as is Bea - I love the name Beatrix with Bea as a nickname. Bianca is another idea.

For a boy, I adore August nickname Gus and I also like Finn. Do you like Finnegan, Finnian, Finneas, Finlay or Finbar?

My favourite options would be Astrid Wren (I also like Astrid Mae and Astrid Elodie) and August McCoy. If you’re not sold on August though I think Finnian McCoy (or any of the Fin- options really) would be lovely.

Congratulations

EDIT: just saw your response above. Lovely choices!

For a boy:
Peregrinw nn [name_u]Perry[/name_u]
[name_m]Thatcher[/name_m] nn [name_m]Thatch[/name_m]
[name_m]Wellington[/name_m] nn [name_m]Wells[/name_m]

I have seen so many [name_u]Finn[/name_u] variants I’ve never seen before! We really like [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] and [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u]. Now I’m not sure which to choose!! I’m probably leaning towards [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] but people might find that difficult to spell.

Which girls name is your favourite:

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Elodie[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u]
[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u]

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u] would be lovely!!

[name_f]Petra[/name_f] could have the nn [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] or [name_u]Pip[/name_u]!

[name_f]Bea[/name_f] could be a nickname for [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f], [name_f]Bethany[/name_f], Brianna/Breanna

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] Knox!!

[name_u]Finn[/name_u] could be a nn for [name_m]Phinneas[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], [name_m]Finnigan[/name_m], [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], [name_m]Finnick[/name_m] or [name_m]Franklin[/name_m]

This is my dream come true to help such a nice person:) I don’t think Phineas will be too difficult to spell, but I am not sure. I do love it though. Of the girl combinations you put I love Bianca Wren and Imogen Reese and Imogen Wren.

I really like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] and [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u] for a girl and [name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] or [name_u]Everett[/name_u] McCoy for a boy. Maybe you would like [name_m]Angus[/name_m] nn [name_u]Gus[/name_u]? [name_u]Jasper[/name_u] also comes to mind and I like the suggestions of [name_m]Wellington[/name_m] nn [name_m]Wells[/name_m], and [name_u]Finley[/name_u]. Best of luck!

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions!

[name_u]August[/name_u] [name_u]Lee[/name_u] nn [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] or [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and [name_u]Everett[/name_u] [name_m]Knox[/name_m] nn Ev or [name_m]Rhett[/name_m] are both lovely and are right up there with [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] [name_m]Knox[/name_m] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! I love [name_u]Pepper[/name_u] as a nn for [name_f]Petra[/name_f]! Some more boys names I like are [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] nn [name_u]Leo[/name_u], [name_u]Evan[/name_u] nn ???, and [name_m]Eric[/name_m] nn [name_m]Rico[/name_m].

I am swooning over the thought of sisters named [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] [name_u]Reese[/name_u], and [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] (Asta, [name_f]Immy[/name_f], and Pepper)!

Great names!!

I LOVE [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] together as siblings.

I’ll suggest…
[name_f]Anya[/name_f]
[name_f]Perdita[/name_f]
[name_m]Evander[/name_m] nn [name_u]Van[/name_u] or [name_u]Evan[/name_u]
[name_u]Everett[/name_u] nn [name_m]Evers[/name_m]
[name_u]Clayton[/name_u] nn [name_m]Clay[/name_m]
Jetsen nn [name_u]Jett[/name_u]
[name_u]Barrett[/name_u] nn [name_m]Bear[/name_m]

Bea (do you pronounce it as Bee or Be-ah):

Cambria
Phoebe
Rebecca
Brenna

Ps if you pronounce it as Bee then you could use any name thy starts with a B

Finn:

Finnegan
Finnick
Finley
Phineas

EDIT: I saw you final choices after I posted

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there.

Here are my thoughts on your list:

Girls-

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] nn Asta-It’s honestly not my personal favorite. But I like that it’s strong & feminine w/out being frilly. And it’s different w/out being weird. Also gives me sort of a celestial vibe, which is fun.

[name_f]Imogen[/name_f] nn Immy-So cute. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] is just charming & feels sleek. [name_f]Immy[/name_f] is lovable & unique & fun to say. I’ve always kind of liked it spelled [name_f]Imee[/name_f] too. Both look pretty good actually! [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] has other fun nns too. I love [name_f]Idgie[/name_f], but also [name_f]Minnie[/name_f] & Ginnny.

Petra-Not sure why, but I can’t get into this one. It feels sort of dramatic to me for some reason. As for nns though, maybe [name_u]Pip[/name_u]?

Maeve-I think it’s lovely. It’s simple & smart but has the little girl on a prairie vibe too.

Oakley-I don’t know. I kind of like it, but it feels a bit trendy too. Maybe as a mn.

Corinne-Not big on this one. Seems sort of dated. As for nns, I can think of [name_f]Cori[/name_f], [name_u]Connie[/name_u] or [name_u]Coco[/name_u].

Bea-Definitely feels too short on its own. Super cute as a nn though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatriz[/name_f]? I kind of feel like any ‘B’ name works w/Bee as a nn. I guess [name_f]Bea[/name_f] is fine too? [name_f]Bianca[/name_f] nn [name_f]Bea[/name_f] perhaps?

Camryn-It doesn’t fit in my opinion. Feels too modern & masculine for my tastes.

Boys-

[name_u]August[/name_u] nn Gus-I think it’s handsome. Doesn’t feel like you love it though. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you like [name_u]Gus[/name_u] more than [name_u]August[/name_u]? Lots of other ‘Gus’ name options. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], [name_m]Angus[/name_m], [name_m]Atticus[/name_m], [name_m]Fergus[/name_m], [name_m]Giuseppe[/name_m], [name_m]Gustavo[/name_m], [name_m]Ignatius[/name_m], [name_m]Magnus[/name_m]?

Everett-I like it, but it’s kind of way popular in my area. Feels a bit over done.

Finn-I love love love [name_u]Finn[/name_u] too! I like it on its own, but also as a nn for [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u] or [name_m]Phineas[/name_m].

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] this helps.

Thanks for the suggestions!

[name_f]My[/name_f] husband and I weren’t aware that [name_u]Everett[/name_u] was so popular, and we really don’t want something common, especially if it was next to a more out-there name like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. We really like the suggestion of [name_m]Evander[/name_m] nn [name_u]Evan[/name_u], so maybe this would be a better replacement for [name_u]Everett[/name_u]. I really like [name_u]Clayton[/name_u] and [name_m]Jetson[/name_m] but because they end with an ‘n’, I can’t quite see them working with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], which is a name we can definitely see ourselves using in a future sibset. This was my issue with [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u] and [name_m]Finnian[/name_m] too, I just can’t see them working with [name_f]Imogen[/name_f], otherwise they would be my top [name_u]Finn[/name_u] names. I would go with just [name_u]Finn[/name_u] but next to [name_m]Evander[/name_m] or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] it seems plain, and I’m not sure if [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] would work with this sibset. [name_f]My[/name_f] husband is suggesting [name_u]Callum[/name_u] or [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] nn [name_m]Nate[/name_m] and I’m quite liking both of these actually. Let me know what you think

Finnick or Finick?

The baby is here!! Check the birth announcements page
