Hello Nameberries!

My husband and I are expecting our first at the end of [name]July[/name] and are not finding out the gender. Our plan is to take our top 2 boys and top 2 girls names to the hospital with us and decide once we meet the baby, but we would both like to go in well-informed!

Girls list:

[name]Willa[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] (this has been our front-runner, but still not sold 100%, and if we don’t use it we’ll lose it, my cousin really wants it for their baby due this fall)

[name]Georgia[/name] (although [name]Georgiana[/name]— pronounce [name]George[/name]-ee-ahn-uh— is growing on me)

[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Eliza[/name] (will use at some point to honor mom and grandma)
[name]Eloise[/name]
[name]Matilda[/name]

BOYS LIST:

[name]Lionel[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] (has been front-runner but 2nd choice is catching up quickly… [name]Anderson[/name] because DH is [name]Andy[/name]/[name]Andrew[/name])

[name]Harvey[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] (am loving this one more and more and more!)

[name]Atticus[/name] (sound funny with last name?)
[name]Jasper[/name] (DH loves name, but with last name “Marks” all i see and hear is SPERM smack dab in the middle)

I have longer lists, but those are the top contenders for now.

Any suggestions? I would love some opinions and impressions of the names. Again, last name is Marks (so names that end in S sound really off with it).

haha… I LOVED [name]Beatrice[/name] and [name]Beatrix[/name] until I finally said it out loud one day and was so bummed when I heard it!

I do like [name]Theodore[/name] for a first name too (I love the nn [name]Theo[/name] too, but [name]Ted[/name] is so classic)… DH likes [name]Harvey[/name] better though. We’ll see…

I don’t think [name]Georgiana[/name] is too much of a name, especially with all of the Isabellas running around these days. The nn [name]Gigi[/name] is beyond cute! And when she’s older, [name]Georgiana[/name] Marks sounds sophisticated and intelligent.

Yes! I do like [name]Harvey[/name] [name]Anderson[/name] as well.

I like some of those suggestions, I do like [name]Ameila[/name] except that it is fairly popular and that deters me some.

That is also what is driving me away from [name]Eliza[/name] as the first name instead of in the middle, just the fact that it is somewhat popular and rising.

I love [name]Josephine[/name] as a first name as well, but don’t personally like the nn [name]Josie[/name], and it is hard to avoid [name]Josie[/name] when [name]Josephine[/name] is a first name, because I know too well that once they go off to elementary school, my control over what she would be called slips away :slight_smile:
I do love the nn [name]Posey[/name], though!

I don’t really like [name]Willow[/name], again with the popularity but doesn’t have the classic, vintage vibe I like. But I have been worried lately that [name]Willa[/name] sounds like it should be short for something… (hormones making me nuts? legitimate concern? what do you all think?)

[name]Georgiana[/name] is growing on me more and more, not sure how DH feels about it, but he likes [name]Georgia[/name] a lot so maybe I could steer him to the fresher [name]Georgiana[/name].

I also have been loving [name]Frances[/name] lately, but again, sounds funny with Marks.

And I like [name]Honor[/name] as well, but it sounds like when you get good grades in school… [name]Honor[/name] Marks (but just to give you an idea of names I am drawn to)

Ultimately I want a name that sounds fresh but is historically rooted, and isn’t popular or rising too quickly and will most likely be really popular.

I think [name]Willa[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] is beautiful. You can probably tell if it is the name for you by imagining how you would feel if your cousin uses it.

You might also like [name]Camille[/name], [name]Camilla[/name] or [name]Camelia[/name], nn [name]Milly[/name] or [name]Melia[/name].

Also [name]Giselle[/name] has the soft L sounds of [name]Willa[/name] and could easily offer the nn [name]Gigi[/name].

[name]Harvey[/name] [name]Theodore[/name] is definitely my favourite of your choices for a boy. You might also like [name]Leonard[/name] prn lenn-ard or [name]Leopold[/name], which have similar sounds to [name]Lionel[/name] and the same feel as [name]Theodore[/name].
