Baby sister for Miriam Grey

We have a three year old named [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name], and she’s getting a younger sibling. This is our girls list.
We have a hard time getting anywhere with girls names, and I don’t know how we’re ever going to pick another one.

My list:
[name]Willa[/name]/[name]Willow[/name] - partner prefers [name]Willow[/name], I like [name]Willa[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name] - partner thinks too [name]Beyonce[/name]/[name]Jay[/name]-Z
[name]Judith[/name] - but hate [name]Judy[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name] - unsure on this, might not make it to the next round
[name]Corrine[/name] - Really really really love this one, partner doesn’t

[name]Sara[/name] - partner says way to popular
[name]Samara[/name] - sorta like [name]Sara[/name] but less popular
[name]Alice[/name] - love love love but partner hates*
[name]Phoebe[/name] - I prefer this, partner prefers [name]Daphne[/name]
[name]Delphine[/name] - like [name]Delphi[/name] a lot

Her list:
[name]Keziah[/name] - though rooted in history, still feels like an invented name
[name]Bryony[/name] - I like the way it looks but not the way it sounds
[name]Tamar[/name] - really dislike, I think it’s the ending

[name]Laurel[/name] - it’s okay, but I prefer [name]Laura[/name]. She doesn’t*
[name]Athena[/name] - seems like it has too much weight, know what I mean?
[name]Juno[/name] - I just think of the movie, so does she. She likes it because of the movie
[name]Marina[/name] - like the body of water?
[name]Simone[/name] - I like [name]Simon[/name] a lot better than [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Daphne[/name] - [name]Daffy[/name] duck is all I think of

Names we both like, but don’t love
[name]Temperance[/name] - like Tempe, but not so much the full version
[name]Serena[/name]/[name]Serenity[/name] - she likes [name]Serena[/name], I like [name]Serenity[/name]. We cant agree.
[name]Britta[/name] - like it but think of the water filter
[name]Annabel[/name] - like it because of [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allan[/name] [name]Poe[/name], but wouldn’t want her to go by [name]Annie[/name]/[name]Anna[/name] or [name]Belle[/name]/[name]Bella[/name]

My list:
[name]Willa[/name]/[name]Willow[/name] - partner prefers [name]Willow[/name], I like [name]Willa[/name] - [name]Willa[/name] is a better match to [name]Miriam[/name]. [name]Willow[/name] would be a nice middle, like [name]Grey[/name].
[name]Ivy[/name] - partner thinks too [name]Beyonce[/name]/[name]Jay[/name]-Z - I kind of agree in some ways, although it’s a solid fit with [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Judith[/name] - but hate [name]Judy[/name] - I feel you. Solid fit with [name]Miriam[/name]. Nn her [name]Jude[/name]?
[name]Pearl[/name] - unsure on this, might not make it to the next round - Fair enough. Good fit with [name]Miriam[/name] / good middle?
[name]Corrine[/name] - Really really really love this one, partner doesn’t
- [name]Cora[/name]? or [name]Corinne[/name] for the middle?
[name]Sara[/name] - partner says way to popular - maybe but great fit with [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Samara[/name] - sorta like [name]Sara[/name] but less popular - Great fit with [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Alice[/name] - love love love but partner hates* - nice name, good with [name]Miriam[/name]. Middle?
[name]Phoebe[/name] - I prefer this, partner prefers [name]Daphne[/name] - I’m with you, but both are nice.
[name]Delphine[/name] - like [name]Delphi[/name] a lot - does your partner like this since it’s kind of like [name]Daphne[/name]? It’s way too dolphin for me though.

Her list:
[name]Keziah[/name] - though rooted in history, still feels like an invented name - great fit to [name]Miriam[/name], I don’t feel that way about it at all.
[name]Bryony[/name] - I like the way it looks but not the way it sounds - I agree. Good middle.
[name]Tamar[/name] - really dislike, I think it’s the ending
- great with [name]Miriam[/name], good middle? [name]Tamara[/name] (like [name]Samara[/name]?).
[name]Laurel[/name] - it’s okay, but I prefer [name]Laura[/name]. She doesn’t* - both are nice, the symmetry is good with [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Athena[/name] - seems like it has too much weight, know what I mean? - Maybe. But [name]Miriam[/name] is weighty too. This could be nice.
[name]Juno[/name] - I just think of the movie, so does she. She likes it because of the movie - I think it builds on your [name]Judith[/name] love. But is brave next to [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Marina[/name] - like the body of water? - Too close to [name]Miriam[/name].
[name]Simone[/name] - I like [name]Simon[/name] a lot better than [name]Simone[/name] - I love [name]Simone[/name]! Great with [name]Miriam[/name]. Overlap with [name]Samara[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name].
[name]Daphne[/name] - [name]Daffy[/name] duck is all I think of - fair enough. Good name but let it go. Means laurel.

Names we both like, but don’t love
[name]Temperance[/name] - like Tempe, but not so much the full version - Yeah, it’s too much.
[name]Serena[/name]/[name]Serenity[/name] - she likes [name]Serena[/name], I like [name]Serenity[/name]. We cant agree. - [name]Serena[/name] is the less trendy and by far the better fit with M.
[name]Britta[/name] - like it but think of the water filter - yes, way too water filter.
[name]Annabel[/name] - like it because of [name]Edgar[/name] [name]Allan[/name] [name]Poe[/name], but wouldn’t want her to go by [name]Annie[/name]/[name]Anna[/name] or [name]Belle[/name]/[name]Bella[/name] - hmm, tough situation.

Suggestions: [name]Bridget[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Cassia[/name], [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Lucina[/name], [name]Seren[/name], [name]Amara[/name], [name]Loretta[/name], [name]Thea[/name], [name]Amity[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Vera[/name], [name]Rosemary[/name], [name]Celia[/name], [name]Lara[/name], [name]Clara[/name], [name]Tabitha[/name], [name]Talitha[/name], [name]Aurelia[/name], [name]Aurora[/name], [name]Aurelie[/name], [name]Orla[/name], [name]Selena[/name], [name]Selene[/name], [name]Diana[/name], [name]Diantha[/name], [name]Delia[/name]

I think your list is more campatible with [name]Miriam[/name]. I really like the names [name]Willa[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Corrine[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] to go with [name]Miriam[/name]. I don’t think any of the other list fits as well but I do like [name]Bryony[/name] and [name]Athena[/name]. Though they don’t sound so much the same, I think [name]Athena[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name] are very strong sounding girls names so they go together for me that way.

  • consider [name]Corinna[/name] instead of [name]Corinne[/name]

  • call [name]Judith[/name] [name]Jude[/name]

  • try [name]Sarai[/name] instead of [name]Sara[/name]

  • try exotic version of [name]Alice[/name], like Ailys

  • nickname [name]Delphine[/name] ‘delphie’ or ‘[name]Della[/name]’

  • try [name]Cassia[/name] instead of Hebrew [name]Keziah[/name] (same name, just Greek)

  • [name]Sidony[/name] instead of [name]Bryony[/name] ( one of the names of the writer [name]Collette[/name])

  • [name]Junia[/name] instead of [name]Juno[/name]- no movie associations

  • [name]Carina[/name] instead of [name]Marina[/name]

  • no [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name] or teen mom associations with [name]Serena[/name] v [name]Serenity[/name]

I like [name]Willow[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Corrine[/name], [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name] from your list and [name]Keziah[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Athena[/name], [name]Juno[/name] and [name]Daphne[/name] from hers.

[name]Miriam[/name] sounds great with [name]Willow[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Corrine[/name], [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Laurel[/name] and [name]Athena[/name].

Something like [name]Delphine[/name] [name]Willow[/name] would be adorable or [name]Athena[/name] [name]Pearl[/name].

I adore your list.

I think that [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Pheobe[/name] fit in with [name]Miriam[/name] perfectly. They are both totally recognizable names that are not too popular.

I love [name]Delphine[/name] and [name]Samara[/name]; they have a more “exotic” feel when paired with [name]Miriam[/name] compared to your other choices.

I see [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Ivy[/name] becoming quite popular in the next few years. I love both, but not with [name]Miriam[/name] as a sister.

[name]Sara[/name] and [name]Judith[/name] work well with [name]Miriam[/name] since they are all biblical names, but are not as exciting as your other choices. I would also avoid using a second biblical name if you are not religious.

My vote is for [name]Alice[/name], but here are a few recommendations.

[name]Cora[/name]
[name]Clara[/name]
[name]Anais[/name]
[name]Danica[/name]
[name]Rosalie[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]

FYI My DD is also [name]Miriam[/name] and [name]Delphine[/name] is my favorite if we ever have a second daughter so I am biased.

Thank you guys so much!
@jesba: [name]Ramona[/name],[name]Thea[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Celia[/name], [name]Diana[/name], and [name]Delia[/name] are going on the list.
[name]Cassia[/name], [name]Naomi[/name], [name]Seren[/name], and [name]Amara[/name] have all been ruled out for various reasons.

@zinnia [name]Athena[/name] is growing on me, as is [name]Juno[/name], but I still prefer [name]Alice[/name] and [name]Corinne[/name]. I think we have to rule out [name]Willa[/name] and [name]Pearl[/name], she’s not budging on them.

@blade [name]Corinna[/name] makes [name]Corinne[/name] lose all its appeal for me, not sure why
We’re thinking about nixing the more biblical names, as we don’t want a theme on our hands, so [name]Sarai[/name] is a definite no, and [name]Judith[/name] and [name]Sara[/name] might be out. My partner is absolutely against using exotic versions of names, says it seems pretentious. I really like [name]Sidony[/name]!

@sheflieswithherownwings I really like [name]Delphine[/name] [name]Willow[/name], thank you!

@missy [name]Delphine[/name] my favorite for [name]Miri[/name]'s sister as well! My partner’s family is heavily Jewish, and [name]Miriam[/name] was sort of a nod towards that, and my entire family is from [name]France[/name], we grew up speaking French at home, so I think it would be a nice touch to have a french name. [name]Delphine[/name] is one of the only ones I like that hasn’t been used yet.

[name]Cora[/name]: This would probably be a nickname for a [name]Corinne[/name], but could be used on its own… we’ll see on this
[name]Clara[/name]: can never decide how to say this, and that puts me off of it a bit.
[name]Anais[/name]: Another French one I really like! Thank you thank you thank you
[name]Danica[/name]: Not my favorite. think of NASCAR
[name]Rosalie[/name]: it’s so pretty, but I prefer just [name]Rose[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]: I love the nickname [name]Penny[/name], but not [name]Penelope[/name] so much.

So the (integrated) list now: [name]Willow[/name], [name]Corinne[/name], [name]Alice[/name], [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Bryony[/name], [name]Athena[/name], [name]Juno[/name], [name]Daphne[/name], [name]Temperance[/name], [name]Serena[/name], [name]Annabel[/name], [name]Ramona[/name], [name]Thea[/name], [name]Verity[/name], [name]Celia[/name], [name]Diana[/name], [name]Delia[/name], [name]Sidony[/name], [name]Anais[/name]

Oh [name]Ana[/name]ïs is fabulous! Gotta use the umlaut though! [name]How[/name] could you pass up a chance to use an umlaut? [name]Don[/name]'t let your partner say it’s pretentious. Does anyone say that about [name]Zo[/name]ë? Certainly not.
[name]Ana[/name]ïs [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Ana[/name]ïs [name]Corinne[/name]
[name]Ana[/name]ïs [name]Juno[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Sidony[/name] [name]Diane[/name]
[name]Sabine[/name]. Similar to [name]Simone[/name], but with a little more bite. [name]Sabine[/name] [name]Ana[/name]ïs or [name]Sabine[/name] [name]Annabel[/name]
[name]How[/name] about [name]Djuna[/name]? Similar to [name]Juno[/name], but a bit slinkier. If you like [name]Ana[/name]ïs… why not? I love the silent D, and the reference to Ms [name]Barnes[/name].
[name]Djuna[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Djuna[/name] [name]Daphne[/name] or [name]Djuna[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] ("[name]Deedee[/name]") or [name]Delia[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]. Great alliteration.
Also [name]June[/name]!
[name]Celia[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Serena[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Ramona[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Athena[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Alice[/name] [name]Temperance[/name]
…Not sure what to do with [name]Phoebe[/name], [name]Verity[/name], and [name]Thea[/name]. I like them, just not excited about them in combination with others.
I guess [name]Phoebe[/name] [name]Willow[/name] would be nice. [name]Willow[/name] seems to go with everything! [name]Thea[/name] [name]Delphine[/name], [name]Serena[/name] [name]Verity[/name], [name]Athena[/name] [name]Verity[/name]…

Too many good names

I like umlauts, but I honestly couldn’t figure out how to do it, so I figure I’d be setting her up for that frustration. I think it’d be simpler to leave it off.
I really like [name]Anais[/name] [name]Corinne[/name] or [name]Anais[/name] [name]Juno[/name]!
I’d probably just get [name]Anais[/name] [name]Juno[/name] past my partner as I’m still struggling with getting [name]Corinne[/name] past her. [name]Sidony[/name] [name]Diane[/name] is nice as well, maybe a bit D heavy though?
[name]Sabine[/name]… I just hear bean.
[name]Djuna[/name] is nice, I see the appeal. We’re going to think on it. I can see it growing on me.
[name]Ramona[/name] sounds so nice with [name]June[/name]! I also like [name]Athena[/name] [name]Willow[/name] and [name]Alice[/name] [name]Temperance[/name].
Thank you so much.

Well, she could always leave off the umlaut when typing her name, and just keep it as an optional garnish for special occasions or hand-written letters. There is power in an umlaut!
Ok enough about that. I trust you will do the right thing.

Your integrated list looks extremely solid. I will just mention that [name]Willow[/name] may be heavily associated with [name]Will[/name] [name]Smith[/name]'s daughter, and [name]Temperance[/name] may be a bit much for a child to carry around

I agree that [name]Corinne[/name] is a real winner. Have you considered a hyphenated name, like [name]Corinne[/name]-[name]Selene[/name] or [name]Anais[/name]-[name]Athene[/name] as a compromise?

I might also suggest [name]Martine[/name], [name]Helene[/name], and [name]Lydia[/name].

[name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name] is really sweet. I think your lists offer lots of potential!

From your list I really love [name]Alice[/name]. I think [name]Alice[/name] pairs perfectly with [name]Miriam[/name]. My second choice would be [name]Pearl[/name]. I actually really like [name]Judith[/name] but am with you on [name]Judy[/name]. I agree that [name]Jude[/name] could work as a nickname, but also think [name]Judith[/name], in full, is totally usable.

From her list, I think [name]Athena[/name] is really nice with [name]Miriam[/name]. It’s so different in origin and background but it has the same feel as [name]Miriam[/name], imo. I’m a big fan of [name]Daphne[/name] as well.

From your shared list I love [name]Serena[/name]. I also think [name]Annabel[/name] is great with [name]Miriam[/name]. Vintage and sweet. I think [name]Temperance[/name] and [name]Serenity[/name] are both nice in theory but they’re heavy names to carry around. What if [name]Temperance[/name] is really strong-willed? What if [name]Serenity[/name] is extremely hyper? [name]Just[/name] food for thought…

[name]Hope[/name] that helps!

I’m glad you like [name]Anais[/name]. [name]Anais[/name] [name]Juno[/name] is great with [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name]; feminine first name paired with a more serious almost masculine (for lack of a better word) mn. You also mentioned [name]Rose[/name] which I think is too often overlooked as a first name.

If you like [name]Anais[/name], you may like:
[name]Anouk[/name]
[name]Ines[/name], Inès or [name]Agnes[/name]
[name]Claire[/name]

[name]Helene[/name]
[name]Florence[/name]
